All About Watches

Funnily enough I had a visit from an associate last week who's into his flash watches and I happened to ask him had he come across Archie Luxury yet?
Archie on Nomos is more typical than his respectful reverso review. I have no idea on most watch brands. Mainstream or desirable high end stuff I have heard of, but lots of other stuff I am just not familiar with.
Archie character is a big brand snob so mid tier stuff draws a lot of his wrath.

Fair enough...

Collectors seem to prefer older watches that are a bit 'battered' (not that you are after selling) as it adds, in their view, to the authenticity. A friend has just bought a Universal Geneve, whilst an esteemed old brand, it was in such bad condition that I would have baulked at the price.

That's why if you have a Rolex that has a patina on it, you need to stipulate that you just want the service and not the reconditioning as it will devalue to the collectors.

Actually, once you get past a certain age, old vintage watches that are battered look really shite on you.

Yeah, the whole Archie character is not far removed from his screwed up self. But that's all part of the fun of it: pay AUD 20.00 and get your watch collection dished by some dude up to his neck in excessive debt to fund his luxury watch fetish.

I like this young chap, The Urban Gentry, his watch reviews are really decent and he has no snobbishness as regards luxury watches vs more modest ones:

I had my paws on an Air-King the other day...

The new one makes all the old Air-King's redundant.

The new one makes all the old Air-King's redundant.

It's an interesting piece. Its effectively a standard (non-GV) Milgauss with a different dial and bracelet. Same case, same anti-magnetic shield, same movement but over a grand cheaper than the 'gauss GV models and about 700 cheaper than the white 'gauss which was discontinued last year around the time of the release of the Air-King. Its a divisive piece, many don't like the dial. Is it a good thing that its divisive? I think it is.

As for the discontinued 'gauss, I though the white one (Whitegauss) was actually the best, closest to an engineer inspired timepiece, the white and orange demonstrating a strong contrast redolent of signage and instrumentation and combined with the uncluttered dial, a model of clarity (that, and the anti-magnetic qualities are just what you need when you find yourself, after one too many, wondering around the surface of the nearest Neutron star).

The GV's, are, in my opinion, an attempt to guss-up the watch for those who want a unique timepiece, but perhaps don't understand/appreciate the instrumentation aesthetic.

As for fake watches, fakes are for fakes. I think that something that all of us on here can agree with.

The bloke in the video is correct, if you can't afford a luxury watch, buy yourself a good quality cheap(ish) watch that is not pretending to be something that it isn't.

The funniest response when confronted is: "Well I have the real one at home because I am afraid it might get stolen". So you carry around a copy risking personal harm over a robbery? I've actually seen someone on a forum boast about his fake Nautilus bought at 900 euros. That is the definition of retardation.

Liking the look of this new JDM Seiko diver due out later this year. It has a Rolex sub look about it but without the price tag or the "I'm mildly successful and in my 30s and I waited 3 years to spend $10k on a Sub" connotations.

^ I like everything about it except the hands. For some reason, I don't like the short, large arrow hand that Seiko uses on some of its diving models.

It became a bit of fad amongst contractors in my industry to sport the Rolex Submariner after their first tour of duty in the Middle East in the 1990s and early 2000s. Of course, that was back when duty frees in those countries delivered massive cost savings and if you were lucky enough, you might even get one gifted by your Arab owner.

It was so common, sporting one became too obvious for a time and it sent out all the wrong signals. So I get what you are saying.

The new Seiko divers are good in my estimation, especially for the price.

are you referring to your fire department watch or to the reverso brown nosing?

actually, I always said the reverso is nice for wimminz, not sure whats wrong about this statement? just tell me ..., p l e e e a a a s e

besides, I try to compare overhaul costs. why should this be a crime? its up to you not being helpful, though.

exactly!

apropos, nice price on the ConchitaWurst ConchitaWurst reverso overhaul, is it? can someone chime in here, please? not the yada yada which is already there, ymmv.

Yes he was in local brothel. Medtech and Phillip Car told me he was insterting 3 piece shoo trees in the prostis : one piece for mouth, one for pussy and one for asshole. New employee was Papa anal Kisses dogheter, she was getting raped while disabled son watched.

better late than never ..., olo. bat signal must have been hidden, sorry.

being a buyer market right now, money is going definitely not into brothels. crowded by refugees etc., poor souls, olo.

fwiw, buckley seems more familiar with brothels than I ever was. my brothel cred is a FriendCustomer FriendCustomer fantasy, poor soul, olo

what's the symbol above the automatic label? is that a seiko thing?

How about the short hands on AP ROs?

Some people just have small hand issues; can't say it's something that ever affected me nomsayin?

Yes much better "I'm too poor for a sub" connotations.

Olo really? I think you would have to be on the dole here to be too poor for a Sub - even 40yo virgins who wear trackie daks and man the desks in public libraries wear them

Here's mine today (apologies for the poor cellphone photo):

I don't mind short hands as such - I just don't like the really short hand with the really wide arrow-head that Seiko uses. Still, apart from that, I really do like the watch.

what's the symbol above the automatic label? is that a seiko thing?

Yes, that's their "Prospex" symbol, used for Seiko's "adventure" watches.

as we all know, your reality is pure fiction, nvm. haven't noticed anything at all, ymmv.

just carry on your toothless business with lousy research skills. I don't care, really.
good, now that we know you don't care, we can add that to the knowledge that everyone else doesn't care either, and maybe we can finally come to an agreement and just shut the fuck up about this already?

tell FriendCustomer FriendCustomer not me. he is picking fights since eons with me. I'm just responding just in case I'm bored enough and/or the standard isn't too low, olo. talking about standards, olo.

... or should we talk about his brothel fixation? lots of work for you, not?

Ugly reverso "priorities", olo.

But at least he has little hands like a woman - or maybe it's a 50" steering wheel? - so the watch suits him, ymmv.

You can only choose watches that are sold by Sears? You can't choose any sold by other sellers in the Sears' Marketplace?

If you can, then I'd choose one of the Seiko diving watches, such as these:

http://www.sears.com/seiko-divers-a...Id=Jomashop&prdNo=10&blockNo=10&blockType=G10

http://www.sears.com/seiko-divers-a...Id=Jomashop&prdNo=14&blockNo=14&blockType=G14

http://www.sears.com/seiko-5-seiko-...erId=zabiva&prdNo=46&blockNo=46&blockType=G46
sadly yes. its slim pickings at best. i have a bunch of their rewards points that i need to use.

it looks like i'll be able to get one of these seiko watches for free if i want. anything worth choosing off this list?

http://www.sears.com/jewelry-watche...ion=PRICE_HIGH_TO_LOW&searsTab=true&pageNum=1

this:

http://www.sears.com/seiko-men-s-au...lerId=SEARS&prdNo=32&blockNo=32&blockType=G32

or this:

http://www.sears.com/seiko-men-s-au...lerId=SEARS&prdNo=29&blockNo=29&blockType=G29

look like the best options at first glance.

Take a pass. Not feeling any of them
