It's always five o'clock somewhere

We tried that last night. 51 percent cask strength. Strangely enough I didn't break a sweat drinking it straight. I did have to run to get cash to pay for it though.

Some bloke at my club just said a 500 dollar bottle of whisky that we have here - he said does it make business sense, does it make personal sense with mortgage and kids - it doesn't have a place in my home.

So go the f#@' home and drink your cutty sark you wank. Turn the lights off so the children can rely on the electrical heat.

How drunk are you right now?

For fucks sake, get off the train tracks!!

I just found it insulting you'd go to an establishment and ask them how they are still in business. That's effectively what he said. And he wasn't even a member. He was a guest of a member.

What was the whisky?

It will also depend on the specific bottling. €233 is currently CAD 349. So 500 bucks in a club, is probably about right. But not if you were drinking at home. Do they have the Glenfiddich 30 year old? I had a bottle of that back when it was reasonably priced, now it's gone crazy. Same with the Glenfiddich 21 year old, seems to have double in price in just a few years.

Glenfiddich Gran Reserva 21-Year-Old Single Malt is $478. My old boss got at some Asian duty free for much cheaper. I think at least 1/3 cheaper if not more.

Oh sorry - I should add that there is always one bottle that is profit free for the club. They buy the bottle from the liquor store and divide the price per shot so members can have a taste of it. It started out with some $50 bottle of bourbon or something but because people like me throw coins in the kitty kept growing into what it is now.

Aye, it's around €140-170 over here now. I remember the days in the 2000's when it was €68-74.

My brother from Scotland is staying. The whole kitchen looks like one of fwiffo's bars. But I saved this one - just for me in my office.

You are all fucking nuts - no drink can be worth that much.

With all those over priced whiskies, you're paying for the fancy packaging and universal status gift potential. Everyone recognizes the brand, the expense and therefore they think highly of you.

I'm off to Tuscany next week on an excellent jolly: sign some legal papers over 3 days, in a couple commercialista offices then back home, having been well fed and oiled. I'll see what whiskies are in the duty free. You can still get some good bargains when that particular hard liquor is on offer.

On the contrary, I rather believe vintage wine collectors are nuts; right up there with vintage champagne enthusiasts. At least with hard liquor, one standard bottle nets quite a few sittings, and as long as the top is screwed back on properly you can save it for quite some time.

Took advantage of the duty free and offers and got some JW Island Green, some Glenfiddich three barrel finished malarkey and Martell VS. The Island Green is excellent and I will need to track some down outside of Duty Free.

The VS is handy if you want a long drink cognac with soda water, or my favourite with plenty of ice. Makes a refreshing change when you want an easy sipping digestif, but not the full on cognac with a cigar moment. Not that cigars are allowed in my household.

What's the difference between Johnnie Walker Island Green and Green? I was thinking about that one for Christmas.

The Island Green has a bit more sweetness, smokiness and a touch of Islay about it, but not full on peat. There's also no age on the Island Green. I'm going to have another one tonight before dinner.
