What's On Your Plate - DressedWell Foodie Thread

Olo yes nothing says striver like an elderly gentleman with a gold Day Date.

Actually it was only like $80 a head inclusive of booze so not cheap but not somewhere you go to show off how tacky you are.

Defo not. I can send you to tacky places too, Maple & Ash for example. Old guy with gold Day Date restaurants are my milieu though.

Mine too - apart from the steaks, loved the sort of Masonic Lodge vibe at Erie.

Went past Maple & Ash last night - the fact it’s in the ‘Viagra Triangle’ says it all I think.

So right up your alley then

Fresh bread and Ukrainian sausage from the Star City Hutterite colony

^Surely, with genuine Ukrainian sausage, you should be eating chunks of heavy, dark rye bread?

pics from yesterday...

had like 12 people over and they brought some stuff too*, but heres the legend for all the stuff i cooked:

1. homemade sauce (cooked down some fat i trimmed off the shoulder...red onion, poblano, jalapeno, garlic, cumin, paprika, old bay, brown sugar, oregano, mustard, tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, a beer)
2. smoked pork belly (same spices/sugar/vinegar as above...smoked 2 hours at 250-275* with cherry wood)
3. smoked pork shoulder (same spices/sugar/vinegar...smoked 5.5 hours at 250-275* with cherry wood)
4. grilled shrimp (w bbq sace above)
5. potato salad (yukon golds, shallots, green onion, garlic, oregano, basil, old bay, whole grain mustard, hot sauce, apple cider vinegar, sour cream - no mayo because it's gross)...this was surprisingly the unanimous home run
6. asian cabbage slaw w sesame oil and rice wine vinegar
7. asparagus

*fuckin' americans...

OF COURSE YOU CANT SEE THE NUMBERS WELL, DAMNIT...whatever i tried.

first pic below was when i had just added the sauce with about an hour to go...wrapped the shoulder in foil so that it'd steam and be easier to rip apart. kept the belly unwrapped because i wanted to cut it into cubes. i love how sauce darkens when the sugars caramelize in the smoker.

what would you use instead? assuming you mean that there's chemical leeching...

The older you get the body can't get rid of the aluminium and is linked to alzheimers and dementia.

I think I had the full life time dose of aluminium in the 70s and early 80s when my Mum use to make corn beef stew and other delights in aluminium pans.

Stainless steel, cast iron, unglazed ceramic.

Don't be fooled by the relatively new "green" teflon-free non-sticks, they have lead and arsenic.

http://www.alz.org/alzheimers_disease_myths_about_alzheimers.asp

During the 1960s and 1970s, aluminum emerged as a possible suspect in Alzheimer’s. This suspicion led to concern about exposure to aluminum through everyday sources such as pots and pans, beverage cans, antacids and antiperspirants. Since then, studies have failed to confirm any role for aluminum in causing Alzheimer’s. Experts today focus on other areas of research, and few believe that everyday sources of aluminum pose any threat.”

Thank you

Thank you
Look I apologise for bring facts and science into this.

Its even better than the above statement:
The only "evidence" for aluminium was the fact that brains of Alzheimer victims were analysed (post mortem) and found to have (slightly) elevated levels of aluminium. In fact there are many plausible reasons why Alzheimer s itself might elevate aluminium levels.

So at WORST its a correlation not causation and most likely any elevated levels of aluminium may in fact be caused by the disease itself.
