Seems to me they both are exercising free speech.
What those hecklers did was uncalled for. It's not a freedom of speech question, it's a decency question. Protest all you want, but get out of the freaking meeting.
As soon as I pay off my debt, I'm moving to Russia.
What are those idiots arguing about? Australia doesn't even have freedom of speech anyway.
I was watching clips from the Kelly File while at my parents' a few days ago. She was asking some black radio personality about the TX shooting. He was quoting Bill O'Reily without shame where he was attempting to acknowledge free speech, but saying the woman shouldn't have organized the thing because you have to know the implications of insulting the Prophet (ie, making yourself subject to murderous zealots).
Basically, he said she shouldn't have done it knowing the possible consequences. All right, sure.
But he was framing it against the Constitutionality of Free Speech and Kelly was reaming him on it - We shouldn't be legally allowed to insult Mohammed because of the possibility of lawless nutjobs killing me for it? Misses the point of "Free Speech" entirely. I couldn't believe how ignorant he was/sounded.
The TX woman has every right to mock a religious figure - no matter how distasteful. And yes, in doing so she should be prepared for natural consequences (yes, even getting killed, although illegal in and of itself). To say she shouldn't legally be allowed to mock Mohammed and try to use some warped freedom of religion argument, and how we should respect all people, is just nonsensical. Cart before the horse man.
Every time this subject comes up, I wonder why we don't see Mormons strapping bombs to themselves and running into broadway theatres over The Book of Mormon...![]()
