I was going to put this in the quick questions thread, but thought an entire city might as well get its own.

So (china)Friends, Romans, Countrymen! Lend me your favourite spots in Rome - be they of the suit, the shoo or the tissue; food, fragrance, or the fragrant ladies of the night.

Any recommendations chaps?

My favorite spots in Rome all have to do with eating and drinking. I will have to ponder and list a few reccy's.

I for one had a very good pizza at Pizzeria da Remo. It was unashamedly in the Roman style, of the paper thin crust, as opposed to the pillows of joy produced in Rome's smelly southern cousin. We will not name her here.

The waitor was a heavy set, jovial fellow, with a large scar on the back of his shaven head - maybe from a previous life, or maybe a glass from an unhappy customer. He had on two watches, one of which was a Rolex Daytona. Fake, or I will start a pizza place of my own.

I drank wine from central Italy, Trebbiano grape, and was pleasantly surprised despite the alarming, dark piss colour. Honeysuckle and almonds.

i once went to a very very cheap place, had three bowls of pasta and a main dish and threw up for the whole night
forgot the name though

did you enjoy the lou parelly documental?
Yes and no. Too long, badly produced and translated, that french guy etc. But I liked some of the points he made, when talking about the business environment and so on.

Gigetto al portico di Ottavia - Via del Portico D'Ottavia 21/a-22, Roma Italia

Ristorante Camponeschi - Piazza Farnese, 50, 00186 Roma

Great restaurants in rome. Camponeschi has perhaps the best fucking fried artichokes ever. Their food is typical from Roma.

Ok. My list

Food
L'Arcangelo on Via Guiseppe. Dinner, lunch. Gnocci.
Obicà on Campo Dei Fiore. Dinner, lunch. Fresh mozarella + the usual pizza.
Suppli on Via San Francesco. Streetfood. Eat Suppli. Duh.
Pinsere on Via Flavia. Streetfood. Pizza.
Mazarpane on Via Velletri. Dinner. Believe the hype.
Ciampini on Piazza di San Lorenzo in Lucina. Icecream.

Fragrance
Roma Store Profumi on Via della Lungaretta.
Battistoni.
Ai Monasteri on Corso Rinascimento 72.

Sights
Villa Giulia. The garden is perfect. Tranquil and beautiful. I found the Etruscan museum pretty boring.
MAXXI. Zaha Hadid building, modern art.
Villa Borghese. Book tickets.
Villa Borghese Gardens.
Doria Pamphilj Gallery.
National Roman Museum. All the classic sculptures you would ever need to see. Skip the coin collection..

Ties
Battistoni.
Cruciani & Bella on Piazza di San Lorenzo in Lucina.

Will continue to travel there spring/fall for the foreseeable future, to visit Ripense. I am not experienced in bespoke other than 2 things from there, so do not take that as a direct recommendation. But friendly guy.
The next time I want to get a shirt at Sabatini - closed last time I was there. Caleffi was closed too. Plan to try La Grattachecca di Sora Maria and Bonci, and if I am elegant enough Al Moro that LPK mentioned.

Such a great place to explore. Do go to the must visits, like the Vatican and the Forum. They do not excite me that much, but they are check list stuff. Also relax, explore a bit, have breaks to eat and drink. Enjoy your visit!

Lelandj has a point (for once!), Rome is the best place for artichoke.

Get at least one of each pastas: Amatriciana, Carbonara and Cacio e Pepe

Skip the pizzas

I will have return several times at this rate! Thank you, all.

Since when has Leit been in Rome? Have his rich Miami friends been jetting him off to Italy in the two months he's been gone?

Maybe. He's hanging with Office pants, wearing solid blue shirts

I think our little man is growing up

claphamomnibus claphamomnibus when will you be in Rome?
Starting July 4 you will find summer sales. If you stop by Te.Ca. Tessuti you will find good deals on Carlo Riva tissues (90-100€ for 3 meters) and the owner is very helpful. They also carry Testa, Atelier Romentino, Thomas Madon, etc.
There are also another couple of fabric stores (Fratelli Bassetti and Longo Tessuti), but I have not been there.
When you are by the Spanish Square, walk up the stairs (Trinita' Dei Monti) and go to the left. You will reach "il Pincio" and the view from there is spectacular.
VERY IMPORTANT:
Watch out for gypsies, especially when taking the subway
