Agreeable Menswear Post Of The Day

These have always been used as cooking chocolate that I have seen, never known them to be just eaten straight.
They were these:

Bel Y Cia is one of the best shops I have been in for sheer quaity of make on products. I was really taken with a mint green cashmere Teba in there but it was too short for me. They did offer to make me one to measure and post it onto me but I'd want to try it on before paying that sort of wonga out. If I remember right it was 700 euros, not so bad for a nice coat MTM in cashmere. I've got a green linen one by Justo Gimeno. Not in the same league but it gets a regular wearing for loafing about during summers.
Bel is the only EG retailer in Barcelona afaik, and their shirts are or were made by Fray. Very tasteful shop and oriented to a very old/mature client.

aristoi bcn aristoi bcn are you wearing this spanish untailor creature named Teba?

No, and I only know one person of my age or +10 years who wears it. I think I mentioned it somewhere before but the Teba is worn only by old (plus 65) AND conservative people. Their sons (my age or a bit older) are wearing uniqlo technical or similar puff gilets or Patagonia polar jumpers instead.

But I don't live in Madrid or Sevilla. Maybe there is different. Among the community of Spanish expats/immigrants in the european northern country I live I see what I say above.

I agree with aristoi bcn aristoi bcn , although these days in Madrid you see more and more young people wearing tebas, as some see it as a less formal alternative to a suit/separates in a business environment.
I find them super comfortable to wear at home as an alternative to a sport jacket, and even outside for weekend stuff

You seem to be describing my father that was a Teba wearer. 🙂 , you forgot to say that he has to work in Bank, Also I don't know anyone wearing a Teba jacket among my friends, but I am not from Madrid but from the north of Spain.

Nowadays you can find cheap Tebas in El Corte Ingles for a bit more than EUR 100 https://www.elcorteingles.es/moda/A22048033-chaqueta-teba-de-hombre-emidio-tucci-kaki/

aristoi bcn aristoi bcn belinmad belinmad robertito robertito Do all those old Teba wearers also have to be (former) facists? I'm not trying to offend anyone, it's just curiosity, because in some countries the political affilation can easily be inferred from dress/grooming (e.g. the different mustache types in Turkey, etc.).

e. ok so that was probably already answered by aristoi bcn aristoi bcn

NO.

We haven't had fascists in Spain since 1,930s. Also I don't quite understand what aristoi bcn aristoi bcn means with the word 'conservative.' What is true is that Teba wearers are most likely be white collar people working in an office rather than blue collar people.

lol I'm not so sure about that date.

I'm also interested in what aristoi bcn aristoi bcn means exactly.

The working class has never worn Tebas unless they were (long time retired) El Corte Inglés sales associates.

Teba has aristocratic/monarchic roots and acquiring a Teba has always been/is a political act rather than a practical one.

Absolutely rubbish.

Maybe in Franco times but he passed away in 1.975 and I believe or not I remember the day quite well before I had no school that week.
I am sure that my father that was businessman wore his tebas because they were practical to him and not because of any political statement he wanted to make, at least in the 80/90 in the provincial town in the north of Spain where we lived.
Neither he had greasy hair or thin moustache.
The only external conservative trait he had was to support Real Madrid, something that he passed onto us.

Hala Madrid!.

I doesn't have to be a conscious political statement in order to be one. I doesn't even have to be a statement at all, maybe that is to strong, it can be a lot more subtle than that.

Agree on that and on the idea of a 'uniform' that everybody unconsciously assumes when dressing but a teba has never been part of that uniform.

Maybe the Teba comes from an Aristocratic/“Traditional” background, but I don’t think that’s the case anymore. These days in Madrid you see normal folks wearing them. No Franco connotations anymore.

I have neither mentioned Franquist connotations nor pejorative ones in regards to the Teba. But nobody can deny that it is a piece worn mostly by conservative and older people.

Nowadays, whoever buying and wearing a Teba is quite consciously doing a political act. You would never see someone voting Podemos or PSOE wearing a Teba, would you?

That is an interesting article.

Is that a challenge? 🙂 Podemos for sure no. They will not even wear jackets or suits. Not sure about PSOE.

The article you have linked is very interesting but it can only be written in La Vanguardia or on any other Catalan newspaper and never on Madrid newspaper.
Incidentally and for the non Spanish forum members, this is how Podemos usually dress (not they are not waiters)

Looks like a prototype socialist. Scruffy. The ugly facial expression of someone who knows his low value and is fighting it through subjugating others.

Quite a lot of colours here, but well matching and giving an agreeable whole. I especially like the contrast of khaki and beige in coat and trousers with the lovely blue of the cardigan. The red and green, but rather subdued, in the socks and tie fit well in my eyes.

Something about this general combo really works. Reminds me of this pic of Bruce:

^I'd prefer a bit more contrast - either a darker jacket with more pronounced blue or brown, or a light blue shirt (instead of the seemingly-white shirt). It all looks a bit too washed out for my taste.

Yes. It is arguably a bit bland. That is a criticism I frequently receive myself from Mrs Ambrose.

I find it a nice, pleasant change from the heavy, colourful peacocking so many men feel inclined to practice. The jacket might be a little longer and a little loser but that’s certainly personal.

It's definitely a nice change from peacocking. One gets the impression that with some of the iGentry such OTT displays are a substitute for the lipstick and mascara that would like to use but aren't yet brave enough.

Exactly. Men owning fine clothes should not attempt to aggressively draw attention. It is a sign of insecurity and reserved for women who have many other qualities. Often, smaller or otherwise less well built men practise this and it never oozes class.

White on shoes is simply outdated and looks therefore odd. Button down-shirts and a tie are not my cup of tea but it’s a marginal effect on this otherwise flawless look. Great jacket although the lapels could be a bit wider.
