OLO.

Just picked up a 1955 Vacheron manual wind at auction, pretty pleased.

Use to scour this website a lot in the late 2000's, only ever bought a vintage Fortis chrono which turned out to have a brass plated crown and I bought a vintage Glycine from a dealer in Houston who specialized in WWI trench watches:

There was a seriously good watch dealer in Los Angeles. Use to specialise in reconditioning vintage watches and making them mint and removing the radioactive dials and such. Can't remember the name now. Quite expensive and the good stuff use to sell double quick. Can't remember the name now. The website was top professional too.

Two questions :-

1. How come they have so much NOS? Some of it from the 1940s.

2. Regarding 1. above, are their claims genuine? No papers, no box, no guarantees etc.

I don't know, you take a risk don't you? Based on my vintage Fortis and Glycine experience the build quality of the vinatge watches are significantly below modern standards. As you probably would expect. The higher end watches may well be different. I do like heritage pieces though, but I will only do reeditions.

A dress watch like Rambo has bought is the way to go for the older stuff. You wear for an event or dinner party and then put it away, until the next time. A good talking piece if it gets a bit boring.

Unfortunately everything has gone up too

Welcome to every market currently.

The moneys in sellling now and rebuying after the collapse.
Don’t think everything has gone up and that it’s a „market“ problem. If you look at the price of watches in terms of cars or real estate, or pretty much all real assets, prices have staid the same, more or less. It’s currencies that have gone down.

When governments print money like toilet paper (though tp was worth more than $1 USD per sheet not so long ago...) this makes total sense.

That said, I’m not sad I didn’t spend the price of a new car on a watch 3 years ago, even if it is the price of a nice new car now. I wouldn’t really want to be tempted to sell something that I bought as a memento.

Was in Brunott jewellers in the centre of Rotterdam today and noticed these Grand Seiko's on sale:

Think the problem there is they were overpriced to begin with. No price inflation on them.

So I just picked up a Rado Captain Cook MkII. This was the watch I was actually looking to get this past week, the vintage Vacheron was total serendipity because Bonhams just happen to have a motherlode Vacheron auction pop up.

Been feeling the late 60s early 70s vibe lately.

A watch a talking point?

FFS don’t invite me to one of your dinner parties.

It's more interesting than learning about how much money everyone's made on their houses.

They're building up a brand and reputation quite well. Hopefully they won't be bought out. They seem to be going for steady growth with a very distinctinctive style and the select use of bold colours.
There's defo a 60s/70s vibe going on with watches at ze momento, 'specially chronos.

I gorra fuckin tell ya... I approve...

And it's quite discerning, those Tissot 1973 Chronos are serious business.

You see someone wearing one of those, despite the pecking order in the Swatch Group, you know they've bought for the 70s sporty chrono vibe and not for the price either way.

The Veblan effect falls silent. It's just good shit.

Bullheads making a comeback too...

I've never really seen a PP that I've really liked. The Calatrava is OK but there are nicer dress watches to my mind.
