Apple, Android, Smart & Dumbphones - The Mobile Thread

I just noticed SanDisk MicroSD cards are cheaper than Samsung. When did Samsung become a premium product in this category?

ATT have a good trade-in deal, so I’m going to upgrade my iPhone this month. The price will only go up, with the current economic crisis. I’ve thought about getting away from Apple stuff, but it’s familiar and the devil that I know

Or go to Mexico and buy it. No tariffs.

It seems as if my phone battery and tablet battery are both not holding a charge well.

I'm tossing up if I can replace a new a battery in each myself - as I'm happy otherwise with the performance of both. Can't do without either. New phone would be $400+ new battery $45 plus lots of swearing and mucking around.. Or I could go to one of those almost dodgy phone repair shops.

In addition Ms fxh All-in-one HP computer won't do Windows 11. So it will have to be ditched, even though it works well.

Right now, I can get $800 for trading in my old phone, leaving less than $15 a month for 36 months. Since I’m not likely to leave this carrier anyway, it’s a pretty good deal for a new iPhone pro max

The Asian guy will do it for you. Bring cash so you can negotiate.

I don't think it's a matter of whether you or Asian guy doing it, it's more the battery you purchase from Amazon. Apparently some of the Chinese off market ones don't last long or worse, bulge. That was what I saw in people's comments on Amazon when I was thinking of doing that two years ago.

Same with my aunt's Surface.

My brother says the new Samsung OneUI update is draining his battery. I can confirm my late father’s Galaxy is also draining even when no one uses it after the update. But nothing drains more than the Meta AI app. I installed it and hooked it up to a Meta Ray Ban Wayfarer and it went from 85% to 19% overnight. Glasses were dormant in its case and I went to bed with my mobile phone flipped over. Maybe Meta ran out of CPU cycles for LLM and borrowed some off me.

It looks gold. Indians would love it.

I updated all my apps and my Android mobile is faster now. At least Edge is faster. I don't feel like I need to buy a new mobile now.

Whatever update Apple did in the past month, my Safari on my iPad Pro 3rd gen is literally lagging and not loading entire web pages for basic websites like BBC (no I'm not on dodgy sports streaming or porn sites). How they continue to issue updates and make basic functions worse is beyond me.

The latest iOS update for my iPad reminds me of my last BlackBerry OS mobile phone. Let's make all the animations and UI move faster so you think it's running quicker.

In other news my launcher app on my android has advertisements unless I pay. A launcher app.

Just figured out to limit my android mobile to three background processes and everything is snappy again. Too bad it resets after every reboot.

I only use on average 5GB a month. Sometimes even less. Wondering if should just go to a discount carrier. I have never exceeded 10GB. Only “free” mobile phone I can get for a two year term that costs $10/month more is a Pixel 9a.

There are discount carriers and I don’t know if I even need 5G anymore. They have cheaper plans for 25GB for 4G only. Of course you have to buy your own mobile phone.

My mother bought a mobile phone that has a fan. I said what fan? She says it blows air out. I said maybe it doubles as a portable fan like they have flashlight mode. No, it's blowing hot air out of a whole underneath one of the cameras where you think there ought to be a circular lens.
