is the X5 an E53 or an E70?

the forum is called technology or so?!

i love the E53 4.8iS
such a beast

i got a vw touareg company car
never owned a car in my life
always company cars

A very solid 1991 Audi 100 2.8e
Needs a wash, though!
audi 100
called CIGAR in russia
used to be a popular car for mid-level bandits
the better bandits drove bmw e34 525, jeep cherokee, mb w124 and the w140 S600 was the absolute boss car

2012 Mitsubishi Lancer
1978 Datsun 280z (Not mine, but i get to drive)
Vespa

I don't know cars very well, so I will be watching this thread to learn.

I've always liked the Nissan GT-R, 370z, McLaren F1 and many other fancy looking cars and I would gladly buy the Vespa GTV 300ie.

It's not this model:

It's (exactly) this:

Probably more for the middle-aged mid level gangster of today!

I used to care about cars. Then I got all those tickets and got sick of paying to maintain zee German precision machines. So I've been driving a Focus coupe for the last dozen years. At least it's got a manual transmission. Handles well enough and is cheap to own. People ask when I'm going to get a new car. Nothing new is of much interest to me. Cars are all too heavy, with high beltlines and windows you can't see out of with giant pillars... They have gobs of disposable electronic doodads to break and complicate everything.
I'd love something cheapish in rear wheel drive with a stick shift and a reasonably sporty suspension. Instead, I'm eagerly awaiting the debut from Elio Motors.
I also have a ratty little motorbike that's twice as old as the car. Seeing how it was crashed several times before I got it, and I've made it worse, people also ask when I'll upgrade. It still works. I was raised with a "final owner" mentality where you held on to things till there was nothing left. And I wound up in court the one time I sold a vehicle.

I like my old car. Easy to maintain, because when you open the bonnet you'll actually find the engine straight away.
Plus parts aren't insanely expensive (unless you buy from Audi).
Here in the UK this model is pretty unique, because it was never officially sold before 1994. Which is why I struggled to find UK head lights for it.

I don't see why people buy a new car and get in debt over it.
When the "crisis" hit and the car industry started whining, the German government conveniently set up a program to help them.
They handed out several thousand Euro to everyone who bought a new car and got rid of the old one (got dissembled).
Now there is a total lack of good used cars on the market, because before that the decent used cars went to Eastern Europe or the Middle East.

plus some crimes have been committed... some really nice cars got scrapped and replaced by some awful new ones...

there is a scrappage programme in russia too - mostly ladas etc are being scrapped...

Word is that a lot of Ladas were (s)crap the day they made it out of the factory...:poke:

I find that modern cars are too heavy. What's the point in having efficient engines, when they have to move an up to 50% increased weight? My car is almost 5 m long, yet it weighs less than a new standard Golf.
I don't have airbags or fancy electronics in my car, so I have to drive being aware of that. People think that because their cars have a lot of airbags and ESP, ASR and so on, that the laws of physics don't apply to them.
After the German reunification the East-Germans spend their savings on used Western cars (and got ripped off during the process). Many ended crashed to the old trees along the narrow roads, because they couldn't handle the increased power compared to their former cars.

2007 Acura TSX, I have modded a bit, but only for better driving. Bigger rotors and calipers, stiffer suspension and thats about it.

They stopped selling those, didn't they? I never went for the slab-sided styling, but as a premium sporty Civic, that was likely a pretty great car. Acura as a brand is a mess with no coherent identity or consistent style or raison d'etre.

Here's a sidenote, car color. My first car was bright orange, my second a lovely metallic light blue, and now I'm in charcoal meant to camoflage me from the cops. I'd love to have a green or other real color, but I like anonymity as well and shades of gray make you invisible. Car interiors are a total shame, with your choice of beige or sad gray. Mine is nearly black, great for hiding filth but totally lifeless and just a dark pit. I'd love a somewhat colorful interior, preferably with patterns like VW still does.

Buy a length of windowpane tweed and have the centre of your seats upholstered with it.

Which one of you big timers has a bespoke interior? S150s seats, or perhaps Minnis flannel arm rests? Maybe some vintage inkjet printed tie silk headrests?

and the best blue exterior colours

my company car is white/ black
would not have ordered it like that; it was on stock...

Get VW exclusive interior next time. They have a lovely burgundy/black and tan/black combination. Get the exterior in black, put it on 21s and you have yourself a nice a car.

I'll have to see how the upholstery comes off. If it can be yanked off easily, replacing an inside rectangular panel would be pretty simple.
I wanted to get a motorcycle saddle done up in houndstooth vinyl, but never found one that had the necessary stretch to it.

i hate black cars
and the bi-colour interiors are farmerish
no no no

Just go to one of those fancy car washes every week. Works fine.

Once a week with a black car? No way. When you are washing, by the time you get to the back the front is already dirty. They take a daily wipe down at a minimum to keep from looking terrible, and during pollen season you can forget it.

When I finally get around to doing the frame off resto on my truck, it's getting painted blue or gunmetal gray or anything except black.

I never washed a car outside the first half year of ownership. I clean windows a few times a year and wipe off bird crap, but otherwise let God rinse it with rain. Another reason that I have a grime-hiding dark gray car.

wash a black car 2x per day or it looks awful
Back in the 80s, seeing a dark e30 BMW with salt stains up to the crease line was oddly alluring.
Black shows swirl marks like mad. I knew a guy that bought a black Miata and told the dealer that if they buffed it before he took possession, he'd walk.

Smart. God help the newbie that tries to use a rotary on a black car.
