Happened to stumble upon Balmain at Harrolds today (Australia's most highend retailer). Never had seen it before, but l loved the styling of this coat. Forget lookimng at their website, it is the most useless site ever made. Better to check out the clothes here:
LUISAVIAROMA - LUXURY SHOPPING WORLDWIDE SHIPPING - FLORENCE

Another cool coat:

An article about the brand:

Anyone know much about the brand? Thoughts?

What do you like about this?

Not really. An old couture house with some sort of revival of interest in its rtw brand in recent years with fashion insider elite and celebs. The shoulders on the women's stuff look like they could have been crafted by Gianni Cerutti's tailor , ie spalla Pagoda. Finally and most importantly for tailoring nerds their Parisian flagship is located in the same building as the flagship and atelier of one of the greatest Parisian tailors of all time and creator of one the most horrific rtw brands, the late great Francesco Smalto.

Elite Street wear people like that French chinaman on SF with hair like a mop probably know more

Well l saw a Thom Brown cashmere v neck jumper and that was $2,500. I almost fell over. Completely outrageous.

Now this is a pretty cool jacket for some kid with a really rich mum and dad.

I can see you in a $100k Burberry alligator trench (collar down) Shooey with your alligator shoos:

At least that alligator trench coat is wayyy cheaper than that Ferragamo coat bat $250,000
Ferragamo Trench Coat priced at $250,000 - Por Homme - Men's Lifestyle, Fashion, and Culture Magazine

or far better value than that $91,500 Hermes' t-shirt:
91,500 dollars for a T-SHIRT? A look at the Hermes garment that costs more than three cars (well, it is made entirely of crocodile skin)

Truly...if l had the money I WOULD definitely buy an alligator coat. Actually,l wouldprobably buy a few of them. I would also have my car seats and couch done in Hermes' quality alligator leather also. Give me 10 million bucks and i'll get my seats done. No kidding, l would actually get my car seats and couch made from top notch alligator leather. I wouldn't want to get off the couch or out of my car all day long....I'd wanna become a taxi driver so l could sit on my alligator seat all day long and then come home and sit on my alligator couch all night long. Life would be completely awesome if all my seats were made from alligator. Woot. :falol:

I just call these Stage Clothes. Great if you are in a Boy Band or wish you were in one. Many men make the mistake of seeing someone, say Jagger or Bon Jovi or Bruce or etc. etc. on stage in their 20s and then imagine they should dress like that in their 40+ years - in everyday wear. Shit even those dudes don't dress like that every day.

There's many good stories about that great Australian Bon Scott (Praised be his name and Blessings upon him) turning up to AccaDacca gigs in his tailored Carnaby Street suit and tie with a bag in which he had his stage clothes - a torn wife-beater singlet and tight torn jeans and sneakers. Similar stories for a Mr Iggy Pop.

Where is alligator hunting legal? Be worth it to hunt one to get the leather.

Rambo, how much is an in state gator tag in Florida? $100?

I want alligator for my mastering chair.

Shooey, I can see that jacket working in a very particular environment. Certain night clubs in London for example, but it's definitely not something you'd wear during the day without looking like a massive douche. It's a costume, and as long as you're aware of that and wear it in the right context you don't end up looking ridiculous.

That striped sweater is hideous, as are the alligator trench coats.

Current Balmain line is overhyped by female celebrities, I see nothing special about it especially at its price point. I hate saying this, but I would buy SLP anytime before Balmain.

What is a SLP? You know, for us ignorant types.

Saint Laurent Paris. Sadly Gucci/Kering group decided to remove Yves from the house. Heidi Slimane has been on a downslope recently, but there are some nice pieces if you look carefully.

.

Completely agreed, some of those cool young guys could definitely pull it off.

While l was looking at the clothes l forgot l was an ordinary looking middle aged guy and thought certain pieces would be nice, but then the reality dawned on me and l realised l was thinking the most rediculous thoughts ever. Me wearing Balmain??...bwhahahaha.

Remember that poster, was it So Cal? He always wore the highend streetwear brands like Rick Owens and all that.

Unless you are supper skinny, Balmain will not fit you. Balmain/SLP/Julius/etc do not look good on guys with muscles or older people, though Karl Lagerfeld used to rock Dior Homme exclusively.

SoCal2NYC had some nice pieces. Trust fund is handy when buying expensive items. He had a Ann Demeulemeester feather scarf that I liked but too pleb to buy.
