Car Talk

Your car is tracking you, your phone is tracking you. Half your household appliances are tracking you. If you don’t want to be watched, you’re going to have to go vintage, low-fi.

We all agree that Musk is a human garbage and his Rhodesian Ridgeline is a piece of shit. But this surveillance isn’t unique to Tesla.
Ok you win.

It’s not just you. Soon your car will also be spying on everyone else on the road and sharing that data with the police:

Was reading a good in depth thoughtful article the other day on how China cars will overtake all others inevitably - made sense, but one bit really impressed me.

The writer said European manufactures are busy trying to make old ICE cars into electric/ modernise - China Manufacturers realised that what "modern" people want is " a Mobile phone on Wheels."

. If I could have a petrol bowser in my garage, I’d probably buy another ICE car.
I can picture you getting out of car in garage and flicking lighted cigarette to floor ........................................

Just came back from a few days in Shanghai (arguably not a a particularly accurate representation of wider China, but definitely what they aspire to be - the city is in the future!). I'd say more than half of all cars were electric, with brands I didn't even know existed.

What they desperately wanted to avoid is to let Apple/Google take over they cars, but I think most have given in already by accepting Carplay or whatever it is called. Most have started subscription businesses and they do not want to pay the 30% Apple tax

I got an email that the Polestar 3 is now made in the US. It’s still super pricey (competing with some really nice Euro imports) and the EV tax rebate will probably get scrapped as soon as Trump takes over.

I might buy a Leapmotor T03, provided I can fit into it. It costs nothing, has everything and will only be used <5-10km distances anyway, instead of using a bike or vespa.

Finally hit 100,000 miles on my 2014 Toyota. Time to think a bit more seriously about trading it in.

Right now I’m leaning towards the Hyundai Ioniq 5 Luxury , but I really wish they wound offer it in red with black.

It seems to have a good mix of tech and old school buttons and knobs. I’ve never had a HUD, but that appeals to me a lot more than the big iPad style screens jammed on the dash. And it uses Tesla chargers now - which we have at home.

If you visit the dealer and are serious about buying a(ny) Hyundai, ask if they can give you an (Ioniq) N series for a weekend. Should be a lot of fun.

I’d love to throw an N around for fun! They look cool and the speed and performance sounds insane.

If it also came with some of the Lux bits, I’d be tempted to get one. But I kinda want HUD, the safety stuff, electric seats, a sunroof, etc more than a car that is faster than I’m going to drive it.

I guess any of the Ns is only useful as a second or third car. Same with the performance series from other manufacturers. You can get around cheaper and more comfortable in the regular version, plus you can't really use the car appropriately on your way to the supermarket etc. anyway. It just doesn't make any sense as a daily driver. Buy it as a toy or just rent it for the weekend and take it to a race track.

Not in a truck market this year, but could be next year. Nissan Titan doesn't hold its value, but I read those trucks are solid and price to value ratio is great. Prefer NA engines over boost.....

Why on earth do you need such a big truck???

no but i need a pick up bed to haul crap like mulch, tall furniture, etc. We also camp alot now, cleaning out a SUV is a bitch afterwards.
too bad you don't want a turbo. the midsize trucks have as much or more payload and ample towing capacity in a smaller package, better gas mileage, equal or better acceleration. bed length is around 5.5 feet for all/most. Unless you get a King cab Titan, which comes with a 6.5 foot bed. Titan too big GI

who camps in a truck? you're three people, what the fuck do you need to haul to a camp site in a truck bed? you're picking up some real weird behaviors in your middle age. use the savings from the truck to get an suv like a normal adult and take a trip to turkey for your hair plugs. something with some good gas mileage and safety features.

Backrow seats in midsize trucks are too tight; i am not that tall, and i felt cramped in the new Tacoma. Also the prices for midsize trucks are so ridiculous that I might just go full size.

I wouldn't mind a F150, but everyone here has one. Don't trust Ram and Chevy styling doesn't do it for me. I wish Tundra kept V8 as an option, I read horror stories about the twin turbo V6.

Already have 2 SUV, lol.
