In China, trade war fears stoke new criticism over the country’s direction

"Last year, a prominent Chinese economist declared that his country had shed its status as a mere emerging superpower and ascended to a position of unchallenged supremacy. China, Tsinghua University’s Hu Angang said, eclipsed U.S. economic power in 2013 and surpassed American technological might in 2015."

….blimey, when did that happen? Fake news - Chinese edition?

"The architect of at least some of the upheaval appears to be Mr. Trump, whose unyielding pursuit of tariffs has raised worries that China is being driven into a trade war it cannot win – and that part of the blame lies with Beijing for adopting a domineering posture that is now provoking global reprisal."

The President says trade wars are easy to win.

"Even the financial markets offered a symbolic portent on Friday of Beijing’s changing circumstances, after Japan’s stock-market value overtook that of China for the first time since 2014."

Does that mean Japan is coming back as the #2 economy?

"In Pakistan, meanwhile, China has been accused of 'reckless lending.' Myanmar is moving to vastly diminish the size of a port project backed by Chinese money over debt concerns, Reuters reported this week."

….what? Muslims and military dictators aren't bending over for money?

“Far from a rejuvenated hegemon poised to reshape the global economy, Xi’s China has been exposed as a giant with feet of clay.”

...from some Chinese bloke in California.

"Mr. Xi 'retains power as the No. 1, but his authority has been severely dented,' Mr. Lam said. 'That means the degree to which people respect him as a worthy leader of China.'"

...from some Chinese bloke in Hong Kong.

If Xi is not careful, his faction could lose control. I foresee another political purge in the near future in the name of anti-corruption campaign.

From what I have read, Xi's inner circle is losing faith and popularity among the politiburo

China, along with a few Eastern Hemisphere nations, may well be set to claim the Kingdom, the goose that laid the golden egg i.e. Western civilization. Our Chinese entity brought to the market in a very short time frame a solution that our UK chums were still figuring out ridiculous toll gates after 5 years of tossing it off. They also get that the let-in-the-barbarians-at-the-gate-so-we-can-virtue-signal is a massive opportunity for them to leap-frog ahead of Europe.

The inner circle that just made him dictator for life?

Is that because they work harder or they cross all ethical lines to get results?

My understanding is that the inner circle is still intact, but the support for that circle is losing a grip. Xi "ran" on the sense on nationalism, which has succeed thus far; however national pride can only do so much to put food on the table, and this is hurting him right now.

Also I believe China thought the rest of the world is going to play hardball against the US, but that strategy did not play out too well.

At this stage, they have more of an entrepreneurial spirit than my fellow compatriots. Number of reasons, some cultural both in the organisation, but also in the national psyche.

Chinese hegemony is inevitable. It is just a matter of time.

A black guy I worked with was of the opinion that where Chinese and Indians coexisted - parts of Asia and the Carribean, for example - the Chinese were always the top dog.

I subsequently read the Victorian Galton’s ‘Africa for the Chinese’ article in The Times. He believed Chinese were a better choice than what he called ’Hindoos’ and that Africa had an unsuitable climate for a white man. Afrikaaners would disagree with the last point.

Certainly Chinese are unencumbered by colonial guilt and able to extract the mineral wealth of the continent with appropriate investments and working with the countries’ rulers.

People are starving in China? How's that possible in the world of communism?

From what I read, it's not that easy.
The entire financial system is set up to work in favour of the US $. This decision was made in 1948 (I believe) by the US and Great Britain, or more precisely by the rulers of the global financial system. For the other nations involved it was more of an FYI.
Let's not forget the stranglehold of the IMF and the FED and it's counterparts in other countries (most of the Western so called "National Banks" are lead by Goldmann-Sachs people and they won't act against the mother corporation).
However, Russia and China allow other nations to pay for goods in their respective national currency or, even better, with Gold.
From what I've been told by my boss, who travels frequently to China now, there is a huge discrepancy between the prosperous coastal regions and the inner ones when it comes to wealth.

This has always been the case, particularly between the ethic Chinese and Han Chinese, thus the longed governmental emphasis on social harmony. There is quite bit of dissatisfaction among the common Chinese population that some have discussed of bringing Maoism back to Central level of governance. The economic boom did not benefit poor as much as the government has portrayed. Sure the "Xiao kang" dream has been achieved by the masses, but the level of living gap is huge.

Peter Navarro Used To Be a Democrat. Now He’s the Mastermind Behind Trump’s Trade War

"In 1998, he had written that he 'strongly supported free trade.' But after China joined the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2001, he started to notice that his MBA students were losing their jobs despite their sterling qualifications. He concluded that China’s trade practices–including export and production subsidies, currency manipulation and theft of intellectual property–were putting Americans at an unfair disadvantage. In other words, Navarro seemed to see in China a scapegoat for people like himself: well-credentialed Americans denied access to the success they felt they’d earned.

He wrote his first book on the phenomenon, The Coming China Wars, in 2006, followed by 2011’s Death by China and 2015’s Crouching Tiger. Death by China was made into a documentary narrated by Martin Sheen. And it attracted the attention of then businessman Trump. 'I urge you to see it,' he wrote in a promotional blurb. When Trump ran for President, Navarro heard a politician willing to take on the evils of globalism, foreign influence and China–someone who, like Navarro, was convinced America was getting screwed."

"China is now the single largest bilateral financier of infrastructure in Africa, surpassing the ADB, the European Commission, the European Investment Bank, the International Finance Corporation, the World Bank and the Group of eight (G8) countries combined."

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-45368092

"China's extraordinary rise was a defining story of the 20th Century, but as it prepares to mark its 70th anniversary, the BBC's John Sudworth in Beijing asks who has really won under the Communist Party's rule. Sitting at his desk in the Chinese city of Tianjin, Zhao Jingjia's knife is tracing the contours of a face. Cut by delicate cut, the form emerges - the unmistakable image of Mao Zedong, founder of modern China. The retired oil engineer discovered his skill with a blade only in later life and now spends his days using the ancient art of paper cutting to glorify leaders and events from China's communist history. 'I'm the same age as the People's Republic of China (PRC),' he says. 'I have deep feelings for my motherland, my people and my party.'"

Do people in China really talk like that? It seems like they're reading from some communist manifesto.

70 years of communist rule in China has ironically widened the gulf between the have and have nots. How is that possible with socialism?

great piece by stoller on china money and monopoly

"According to the authorities, there are 662 Chinese cities, including more than 160 with a million people or more.

Mr Anderson told an anecdote about a friend who had recently visited a Chinese city.

'He got to his hotel and realised he had left [his phone in a taxi], so the hotel walked him to the police station,' he explained.

The police pulled up the data about the vehicle but didn't have the traffic cam so they took him to another department a few blocks away, and they were able to track the taxi in real time and called the driver to ask him to bring back the phone.

'Within two hours he had his phone back.'

'The taxi driver may have been worried that if he didn't return it, he was going to get a negative score.'"

And if your Communist Party loyalty is too low your family and friends are imprisoned and your money frozen until you pay an increasing escalator of interest rate.

China’s Plan to Conquer the Ocean

One belt one road (everyone needs to listen to this).

A superpower? It will never happen. Authoritarian regimes are not meant to rule the world.

China gets appointed to the United Nations Human Rights Council yesterday despite killing 370 million of their own people (100 million people and 270 million forced abortions) and ruling over it's people with an iron fist.

The U.N is the biggest joke ever.

China's days are numbered as a superpower. Numerous studies show that most country's trust of CCP run China are at an all time low, and that diversification away from China is the new trend starting to emerge. Numbers also show that BRI members have greatly wound down their borrowings from China. Also note that China's generals etc haven't got the experience in coordinating wars. China can no longer rely on bullying the asian countries to be allies either, and neither is China able to fund it's military expansion at key trading ports. The CCP tried to buy off the world, but they have run out of money.

I am giving a public speech on the CCP and communism tomorrow.

Doesn't seem like it's numbered here.

It can often seem like that on the surface, but if many countries join together and no longer play ball then China will lose. It is already well into the process of losing, and all this pressure and bullying tactics will seal China's fate more quickly.

China is trying to exert itself as the most dominant country using all these crazy tactics, but it has pushed countries off side because China has pushed things to the extreme, and all it is doing is showing the world they can't be trusted. The CCP's fate is a done thing, it is damaged goods.

The key thing is to dismantle united front work projects and to trade less with China. Countries could align together so the pressure from PLA militarised zones/ports could be weakened, but of course it is not as simple as that, as relationships of the Asian countries and China is complex, and shifting the strategic relationships would cost the U.S ample resources. Still, it is a step in the right direction, but the U.S needs to good leader to be able to do it.

No matter what, China is toast. It has shown it's true colours and played all it's cards in the last desperate step for world domination.

PROBLEM = China played it's cards too early. It exposed itself through it's own stupidity.

I wouldn't say they are crazy tactics. It sounds familiar to what the USSR used to do except it was unsustainable for their command and plan economy and they keeled over. China has an eclectic authoritarian/socialist/capitalist economic engine that appears to be pretty self sustaining so they can afford to be provocative.

I have my doubts that and their military capabilities would last long without pressing the nuclear button if they had to engage the US on multiple fronts in an outright military conflict.

I don't think that is the case. China has spent so much money abroad and sqaundered money on poor investments that they are virtually broke including the banks. They were hoping overseas countries would have been paying back the money by now, but China's greed for lending poor countries money has backfired. The local economy isn't so good either. China have shot themselves in the foot. They have a lot of problems.

I have my doubts that and their military capabilities would last long without pressing the nuclear button if they had to engage the US on multiple fronts in an outright military conflict.
No nuclear buttons will be pressed no matter what they try to do. The Gods are watching, so pressing those buttons is off limits.

What is the deal with New Zealand, China and the 5 eyes? Hey Aussies, explain this?

What is the deal with New Zealand, China and the 5 eyes? Hey Aussies, explain this?

The New Zealand PM has fallen under the spell of the CCP. She thinks we are being mean for standing up to the CCP, and we should be nice to the CCP and not cause any trouble. She thinks we are the trouble makers and bully's and we should give China and the regime a fair go.

Her government is full of woke fools, and they are out of step with much of the world. The NZ government is embarrassingly naive. It's hard to believe people are this stupid, but they have drank the cool-aid.

We want a strong force for the 5 eyes, but NZ is causing great security concerns. Why? We share intelligence and secrets among the 5 eyes, but with New Zealand's loyalties now lying with China, things are very risky because CCP infiltration of NZ is now putting our security information at risk of falling into CCP/PLA hands.

The big problem is that NZ is signed to the BRI. They have basically signed their sovereignty over to China. I am in crossed minds whether NZ should be booted from the 5 eyes...no matter what, they should be put on a very tight leash and put on the fringes.

NZ is the biggest embarrassment, it is one of the few western countries signed to BRI...most western countries know better than to be so stupid. You don't need to hand over your intellectual property/resources, sign up to Chinese surveillance technology, set up a space for PLA military bases and keep silent on China human rights to do infrastructure building deals. But this is exactly what BRI countries have done. They have signed up to all these compromises when individual contracts with building companies was all that was needed. Poor countries are desperate for funds, so it is understandable that they shoot themselves in the foot, but for a western country to do this is pure stupidity.

If NZ love China so much they have certainly done the right thing. Why? Because they have grown apart from the 5 eyes and are growing closer with China. Before long it will become a Chinese state because it will be so infiltrated with CCP agents that it won't be able to make it's own decisions.

As Alan Whicker once said "New Zealand, the only third world economy where you can drink the tap water.''

Why do you think the MSM adore Jacinda Ardern so much? A globalist shoe-in.

The epitome of a `useful idiot'. So caught up in woke ideology that she is completely irrational. So many people are like that today: the leaders, the mainstream media, the professors...all asleep at the wheel while the communist specter is in their backyards.

You should see the stuff l have seen. High up officials have send me records of our leaders being traitors to my country, ie, selling out to the CCP. They tried to cover it up, but they got caught. Actually, l have records of them doing a lot of things the public have no clue about, and there is no way the media are going to talk about it. So much dirt Mr Smith. They are all in it together. I used to wonder if they really knew what was going on, but they do know they are selling out our country, but they don't want to lose their jobs so they don't make a fuss.

I don't know the situation in New Zealand, but it's so embarassing as some western states submit and toady in order to have good economic relationships with China, putting aside their moral principles. Think instead how much it could move, to unite and boycott the Chinese (and other totalitarian states') economy.

I would echo most of what was said in regards to Canada and the Trudeau regime.

Still lots of chinks.

My parents were born in the 50s; if I recall, 50s and 60s is when the population exploded. Mao's philosophy, more men to fight wars with the west.

More CCP propaganda. If they were open they would admit they are persecuting the urghurs and Falun Gong people in the concentration camps. If they were open they would make the BRI MOU's available to the public, but they make everything secretive because because the MOU deals stink.

Forget about credibility, the CCP lives off propaganda.

The only way to create a loving image of China is to eliminate the CCP and have China live normally. When the CCP is eliminated China's image will greatly improve. Gone will be the human rights abuses and surveillance system and social credit system.

The CCP are so deluded. They don't realise the game is up.

Enjoy the show folks, the takedown of the CCP is happening as we speak.

Grand Potentate Grand Potentate the specter of communism has infiltrated all countries of the world. It originally came from outside this world, but when it did arrive here it infiltrated the west initially through marxism, and eventually conquered the Soviet Union which became a poster child for the future eastern authoritarians who were going ton raise their heads. A few decades later the Asian countries were infiltrated by the specter. Surveillance, censorship and identity politics are all symptoms of the specter, and everything is rotting and crumbling in the final days, no country is free from it. In the dharma ending period all these things happen, it is the big decay before the destruction of societies begins.

China is the worse effected from the specter of course, and it is the perfect example of what happens when identity politics, virtue signalling, surveillance, snitch culture, government/medial/school propaganda and censorship takes place. 50 years later the west are following in the footsteps of China, and history is being re-written in the West like it was in the East (all written with identity politics as the core). Gotta be careful of all this stuff Rambo, the schools are spreading it far and wide like they did in China, and it's gonna bite people really bad very soon, it is not the human way of living, and it won't be allowed to continue.
