A 'popover'. What the fuck is this?:

Either get a dress shirt or don't. No one's interested in looking at half a placket of buttons. This is the menswear equivalent of the visor.

At first, what catched my attention was the pic, and I was thinking "I don't see anything wrong with it"... then I read and scroll down... ah the dissapointment. The suit looks fantastic... but that shirt... it doesn't.

Yep, you get down to the forth button and you're saying to yourself "wait, where's the rest of it?"

PTO has been going on and on about these "popovers" for a few weeks now.

I, for one, don't even understand the long-sleeve polo, but that's just me.

I seem to have the impression that all men's dress shirts were of the "popover" style until a comparatively recent date--late 19th, very early 20th century, something like that. Am I mistaken in this?

Keep in mind when you live in an area of the country that can have months worth of unrelenting 100+ degree weather, you learn to appreciate the need for short sleeve shirts on occasion.

Yes. They're called polo shirts. I'd even let a guyabera slide in certain more ethnic areas of the country. But short sleeve button downs are just wrong.

Everyone and their mom (fortunately I am neither) wears short sleeve buttoning shirts in Seoul during the summer. By everyone I mean 80-90% of the population wearing ties. Speaking of estimated statistics, I decided to keep count of all the faux pocketsquares I see around. I initially said that 2 in 5 were fake, stitched in sheets of polyester. I was wrong. Very, very wrong. I counted around 60 pocketsquares. Of them, 3 were real. 3 of 60. 95% of all pocketsquares in Korea are stitched into their jackets. And most aren't even white.

I'm going to need photographic proof of this concept that I do not understand.

Ignore the gold tag. This picture was taken at a store. I just don't have the cojones to go up to a random dude and take a picture of his chest. The "square" is sewn in about a centimeter down. That weird fold thing is pretty standard (the majority of faux squares look like that, though in various blue-gray colors). If only 1 in 20 pocket squares in Korea are real (as per my count), I'd estimate that 15 of 20 are fake in this variety (referring to the fold...not being sewn in...all the fake squares, I think, are sewn in)

I've had several people, usually, but not always, women, come up to me at bars and pull out my pocket square with some measure of surprise that it's real. I guess they notice something is unusual (as in: it doesn't look like a sewn in piece of robot shit) and want to investigate.

Untucked short sleeve button downs are a solid casual look with jeans or maybe chinos. I have ocbds, seersuckers and a heap of other short sleeve shirts from Ben Sherman, Brutus, Jump the Gun and Fred Perry.

My pet hates are: gold buttons on blue blazers and jacket-shirts. Also dislike hoodies, but that's really just a preference.

Zara and some Massimo Dutti SC's are coming out with the stitched PS. It's a horrible trend.

When I was a student, I bought one shirt from Zara... worst thing ever. The cotton cut my nipples, you have no idea how painful that was.

Hahahahaha! I should have done that! Plus it was horrible cause I was at a night club, so when the girls wanted to dance I was in a lot of pain. Hahahaha!

+1 to sockless suit fits

Also speaking of southern style, hate the look of an odd vest under a suit. If you're going to wearing a vest it should be from an actual three piece.

Not so much hate, although it is there a bit, but I've never really understood that look. Everything's just so out of whack.

Suede shoes, almost never seen on regular folk at all, being treated as a CBD or sophisticated option instead of a casual leather.

A suit without socks only works in the rare case of that tropical lothario/drug dealer look. This mean light colored rumpled cotton or linen, not gray flannel.

As mentioned elsewhere, the two inch trouser cuff.

You people are just silly. The odd vest and tweed suit is fantastic.

I don't care what story a person has sneakers with a suit drive me insane. Worse than just the "I'm walking from the bus" guy is the hipster with his hip shoes and hip suit.
How about with a sport coat?

Gregory House sort of pulled this off, but he was a limping, drug addicted misanthrope.

Also available in this delightful color combination for your summer outings at the boardwalk:

I'll throw into the pot the general "homeless" vibe gaining popularity among youth right now. Sleeveless jean jackets, ratty torn-up Tshirts,

... And the summer special; on the vast majority of young ladies out there, your (increasingly shorter) Daisy Dukes don't make you look sexy. They make you look like a cow.

On a related note, youngins appear to be getting increasingly fatter. So many girls with dem thunder thighs.
