Coronavirus

“As some states in the US begin to ease lockdown measures, the future of the handshake remains uncertain.

’I don't think we should ever shake hands ever again, to be honest with you,’ Dr Anthony Fauci, a key member of the White House coronavirus task force, said back in April.

’Not only would it be good to prevent coronavirus disease; it probably would decrease instances of influenza dramatically in this country.’”
“We already place such a premium on youth and vigour in society, and this forced artificial distinction between the old and infirm and the young and healthy probably will hit some folks very hard.”

If that were the case we wouldn’t have prohibited every activity enjoyed by those with ‘youth and vigour’, sacrificed the education of an entire generation, and tipped billions of young people into poverty to save a few million boomers.

Howdy stranger. Where you been hiding?

You ignorant slut. Nice to see you back.

That will fall on deaf ears here. Most here want people quarantined and wouldn't mind seeing decline and fall of society as we knew it in February; capitalism, government, GDP, environment, old and young, Tik Tok, celebrities, air travel, the whole lot of it.

Guero still tries from time to time.

Reckon I have read everywhere is the same. Cities are one story, and less populated areas are okay to reopen. This is the case except in the oriental Asian countries where somehow big cities are getting by.

I think a lot of people are going to be reconsidering their urban abodes after this is over.

Defeatist thinking. The world has and will continue to urbanize and densify.

To quote Will Smith’s character in I am Legend: “This is Ground Zero. This is my site. I can still fix this.”

Yes, but some individuals are going to consider getting the hell out of Dodge. A lot of the Greens are big into urbanization, I find the ideology behind it fascinating, but not in a good way. Some people need space and greenery. I certainly do.

My kids lock down has been one of enjoying a spring that has been like no other, endless blue sky days, spent when sick of the house in the garden. And then the lakes and woodlands nearby with paths and world class cycle lanes.

The lock down in and around The Hague was a tale of two experiences. In the city they were queuing for sometime to get into the supermarkets and because of the limited space and just-in-time principal they had massive shortages. Here, outside the city proper, whilst there were initial runs on toilet rolls, etc, Hanos/Costco/Sligro hyperstores/wholesalers had it all covered.

“Two dozen House Republicans gathered with Trump and other administration officials in the State Dining Room at the White House on Friday afternoon to discuss the country's economic recovery from the pandemic. None of the attendees wore a mask.

‘I do want to advise our media friends before they write stories about how we didn’t wear masks and we didn’t possibly socially distance adequately, that you saw to it that we had tests, and that nobody in here had the coronavirus unless it's somebody in the media,‘ said Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, during the meeting.

‘So the only reason we would wear masks is if we were trying to protect ourselves from you in the media. And we're not scared of you. So that's why we can be here like this,‘ Gohmert continued.”

I thought all countries were doing this already. No wonder Britain is right behind the US.

The Globalista mentality 'innit, every crisis, every issue can be solved by open borders and the cross border movement of people. Even as the rest of the population is in a strict lock down.

I did my update for the Group on Friday. Whilst most countries in mainland Europe are opening up, France is very stringent on travel, including business travel over 100kms which is being heavily policed. And there's Paris and north east France up to the border with Belgium. I''m basically shutdown in France and Belgium, but not anywhere else, including Italy now which sprung to life last Monday. We've done a lot of remote working during these times, but for a lot of our work at vendors, it's proved quite inefficient and more time consuming. You lose on the Kms and travel time, but gain it all back on Librestream working and waiting for certificates and documents sent by email.

The argument was: That if the counry is in lockdown already, everyone who comes into the country will, themselves effectively be in lockdown once they reach their abode, plus thay cant infect anyone because everyone is in lockdown anyway. I can see the logic in this.

However, now that we are looking to ease lockdown over the coming weeks, there is now a need to quarantine people who come into the country because there will be more people about for them to potentially infect. I can see the logic in this too.

In my opinion, They really should have shut the points of entry very early on, but look at the flack that Trump got when he did it...also the WHO's advice was wrong about Human to Human transmission.

Draw your own conclusions as to why that was...

"Lukashenko, who has publicly dismissed other countries’ coronavirus measures as 'psychosis' and declared 'it’s better to die standing than to live on your knees,' addressed the criticism during the ceremony on Saturday.

'In this crazy, disoriented world there will be people who will criticize us for timing and the location of this sacred event,' Lukashenko said. 'And to them I say, like human to human, do not jump into conclusions and, moreover, do not rush to judge us, the descendants of victory.'
'We just couldn't have done it differently, we had no other choice, and even if we had, we would have done the same thing,' Lukashenko added."

That does make a lot of sense, but still quarantine either way makes more sense. You can always infect airport workers, etc.

According to Der Spiegel the German intelligence services have details that Xi Jinping instructed the WHO to cover up the severity of the Wuhan/China/Biolab 4 virus back in January. The WHO Director General, that MSM friendly Ethiopian communist Tedros chap, was photographed over there shaking hands with the Chinese President at that time. And presumably getting his bung. Third world politics globalized and put in charge. Shit-hits-fan.

Trump was damned either way. At the time he imposed restrictions, he was accused of being racist and now, not acting soon enough. It's all weird in the MSM. I've started watching Sky News Live because I can get it on Youtube at work and most of the stuff on the virus is propaganda viewed through the prism of Brexit. So automatically the tone and message is anti-Boris and the government. Then you get the anti-Trump dirges thrown in by specialists in various fields every couple of hours.

The Guardian is as bad, along with the very racist party line that Trevor Phillips must be an Uncle Tom, they've pushed and keep pushing it over several articles, editorials and opinion pieces that BAME people are struggling to get access to the health services. That would be the NHS, whilst at the same time, drawing attention to the fact that BAME people make-up a higher proportion of workers in the NHS compared to their percentage in the general population. Anyone of reasonable intelligence, will realise this is race baiting at it's most ugly.

The Guardian produces many articles simply for click-bait, its basically trolling.

This is one of the consequences of social media and the 24 hr news cycle.

Very true and The Daily Mail is also guilty of this in a big way.

You think back to the likes of The Sunday Times in the 1970s and it's a different universe of quality journalism.

"France has recorded its lowest daily number of coronavirus deaths for more than a month, with 80 deaths over the past 24 hours. Authorities are preparing to ease restrictions from Monday, as is the government in neighbouring Spain."

It's over!

"In South Korea, renewed restrictions are being imposed on bars and clubs after a series of transmissions linked to Seoul's leisure district."

Oh wait...it's not.

"The chancellor imposed an 'emergency break', requiring local authorities to reimpose restrictions if cases rise above a threshold of 50 per 100,000 people.

Outbreaks at meat processing plants in the states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein have already reportedly breached that line, and forced district officials to act.

And one district in the state of Thuringia reportedly recorded more than 80 infections per 100,000 people, thought to be due to outbreaks at care facilities."

Bugger...they're going to need a new politically convenient metric.

Number of total infections? Number of deaths? 7 days rolling average? 5 day rolling average? Number of people on ventilators? Number of people in ICU but not necessarily on ventilators? Number of hospitalized? ....

There can be different models. Look at North Korea.

Unless it's come from the mouth of Dr Who, I ain't listening.

At this stage, the WHO is no more than a minor propaganda wing/department of the Chinese Communist Party.

Meanwhile, I see the gormless Met PC Plod has been deployed by Dick and Khan with the usual authoritarian delight:

I just washed my hands after taking a massive dump and immediately received a letter from the WHO praising my "strong response" and "committed leadership".

Watched Boris Johnson's address to the nation. Seemed rather clear to me. Then I read the Brit newspapers and watched Sky News today, seems to be a different speech they're reporting on.

Sky News is dreadful, emboldening that dreadful Nicola Sturgeon and now various non-entities from Wales. Every half-hour anti-Brexit propaganda and what's with this weird constant bringing in some bitter, twisted and angry ''expert'' to tell us that face masks don't work and if they do the scientific evidence if very flimsy delivered in an angry tone in their sub-Ikea-like abodes in the metropolitan bubble?

Unfortunately Sky is the only one streaming for free on YouTube. That said there is a lot of focus on the other home nations. We're used to it here as the PM has his speech and every provincial Premier has their own. Sometimes they don't line up.

You think back to the likes of The Sunday Times in the 1970s and it's a different universe of quality journalism.

Those days are gone.

Young journalists struggle to get a gig, they maybe expected to produce articles for little or no pay, or offered 'exposure' in lieu of payment.

This has led to the creation (necessity?) of a 'journalist as a brand' where the journalist goes onto twitter (or any social media) taking ever more contrarian views/showing off as a means to promote their brand. Guardian journalists are particularly prone to this (see above point)

Also, journalists, especially blue-tickers form blue-tick-circle-jerks where they constantly retweet each others views...which I suspect acts similar to citation rings in academia.

Journalism as a way of understanding the world has been in the emergency ward for quite some time...

The Media Is The Massage...!!!

The days of the colour supplement and rampant consumerism. The paper got heavier and heavier and would take all day to read. Many of the various supplements ‘Travel’ etc were just advertorial. I don’t think that word was in much use then and we were not so conscious of all the freebies and bungs the journalists received.

Go ask China...or the CNN reporter who got pointed at but didn’t respond in time.

The Brit journalist and media are particularly sensationalist and aspects of common culture have become immature, if not decadent. The police uploading TikTok videos of themselves dancing, you won't see that on the continent. Then you have those loud voices giving it the big licks how dare they try to take us out of lock down! Totally weird, in mainland Europe they're itching and a scratching to get out. Or Channel 4 giving voice to some irrelevant ageing actress who wanted to Boris Johnson to die of the virus. You wouldn't get that lack of civility in say France or the Netherlands.

The magazine was very good as I remember. Some of them are collectors items the 1982 one with Edie Sedgewick as an example.

Those journalists are there to show an appropriate daily level of hate and visible distaste against Trump and America first. They are patriots not and their enraged moral righteousness is just an act.

And then there's the SNP and their cronies trying to use the virus as an excuse to have a hard border with England:

Blame the stupidity and arrogance of Blair. Tam Dalyell called it years ago.
