Coronavirus

"South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem says the thousands of people who attend the July 3 celebration for Independence Day at Mount Rushmore with President Donald Trump will not be required to practice social distancing despite an increase in coronavirus cases across the country.

'We will have a large event at July 3rd. We told those folks that have concerns that they can stay home, but those who want to come and join us, we'll be giving out free face masks, if they choose to wear one. But we will not be social distancing,' Noem, a Republican, said in an interview Monday night on Fox News"

Skimmed an article, about a man who has just come out of a 6 week coma, and is now corona free.
Lost 18 kg of muscle mass. Can't turn himself around, hold a cup or even move his toes, hard to hold is own head up. Tubes everywhere.
Goddam.

We have fortunately few cases. But just imagine the strain around the world, with high number.s The strain on healtcare personnel, and reasources tied up for this that are needed elsewhere. A familymember survives, but out for who knows how long.

After a 6 week coma, it's the mental capacity as well you've lost. You won't be jumping back into work on full capacity.

From ex-colleagues and acquaintances, there's anecdotal evidence that certain organisations knew what was coming back in January. Changing procedures and running audits to test working remotely, but having everyone working from home to test test this with new shiny laptops.

A young man might be lucky and get back to 90% after recovery, physically and mentally. But a middled aged guy or an old one? No way. It will never be the same.

Risk managment is deeply undervalued.

Taleb was the only one (I am aware of) who got this right in January. So this will be an interesting read.

Just this past few days they said asymptomatic people don‘t have immunity. Now even if you don’t have antibodies you have immunity.

“People testing negative for coronavirus antibodies may still have some immunity, a study has suggested.

For every person testing positive for antibodies, two were found to have specific T-cells which identify and destroy infected cells.

This was seen even in people who had mild or symptomless cases of Covid-19.

But it's not yet clear whether this just protects that individual, or if it might also stop them from passing on the infection to others.”

Next to PPE manufacturers and security guards who tell you to wear your mask and sanitize your hands, this could be the key to economic job recovery. Sh@t testers.

The question of predicting the disease trajectory is less important than questions related to what’s necessary to 1) cause an exponential decrease rather than increase in new infections and 2) cause this decrease to occur as quickly as possible. ... Furthermore, the assumption that the virus cannot be beaten without a vaccine can become a self-fulfilling prophecy; policymakers may not take doable steps because they are discouraged by purported scientific predictions.
sad but true.

"Jeepneys - small, often brightly-decorated buses in the Philippines - are back in business as of today.

The buses have been seen driving around the capital city, Manila, fitted with social-distancing markers and plastic protective shields.

But under the government's rules, only registered and roadworthy jeepneys will be allowed to operate, and they need to stick to limited routes around the city."

Not sure what is more scary - sitting in a bus that looks like it's covered in so much plastic wrap it looks like a meat locker or dead body transport or the fact he appears to have a jug of motor oil near the front seat.

"In a rare comment on the coronavirus, Kim said that his country's handling of the pandemic had been a 'shining success,' reiterating past claims by the country that it hasn't had a single case of the virus, state media KCNA reported."

"With Houston hospitals at the brink of capacity, Roberta Schwartz, the chief innovation officer at Houston Methodist Hospital, urged the public to follow health precautions, including wearing masks, practicing social distancing and following hand-hygiene rules.

'It wasn't that those warnings weren't out there; it's just that people weren't following them as closely as they should have,' she said. 'We keep giving the message: Your patriotic duty this July Fourth is to stay home and celebrate with your nuclear family and not go out and try to have a party, because this is not the time for that.'"

Dropbear endorses this patriotic duty?

"But the nine tower blocks in Flemington and North Melbourne face a 'hard lockdown'.

According to Victoria's Minister for Housing, Richard Wynn, some of the state's most vulnerable people live in the nine towers, and mental health and drug and alcohol support will be offered."

Alcohol support. Does that mean you're dropping off alcohol for me?

“The bill passed by the Chamber of Deputies included an article saying that masks had to be worn by people in ’commercial and industrial establishments, religious temples, teaching premises and also closed places where people are gathering’.

On Friday, Mr Bolsonaro vetoed the article, arguing that it could lead to the violation of property rights.

He also vetoed another requiring the distribution of masks to the poor.”

Ahh England...how I forgot about drinking beyond the excess and your loose women with short shelf lives.

Apparently we should have closed gyms all along.

Apparently? Re-opening has shown people to not be intelligent enough to safely navigate in a waning COVID environment such that it contributes to increased community transmission.

The ignorance of people is astounding and I didn't think I could be astounded by any more stupidity. Fucking idiot sheep who have to crawl back to their sorry little social rituals lest they have no other meaning of life.

You don't need a gym class if you've got Les Mills On Demand.

There's going to be a lot of pissed off dumb asses when they go into their second lock downs through all fault of their own.

ololo. But, but he was Superman and invincible to it. If it doesn’t kill him he will be worse after he recovers.

He’s started taking hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin. Olololol it just gets better.

This. Is a huge problem. If idiot fuckers like him or Trump get the bug it’s likely they might get no or few effects. This will embolden them to further reject science and experts and elevate personal experiences and feelpinions over facts
