Coronavirus

Sweden 2021
"Although the nation still experienced an economic contraction in the second quarter of the year, with its GDP shrinking by 8.6 percent, this was significantly less than the estimated average for the European Union as a whole, which saw a decline of approximately 11.9 percent"

Australia 2021
"Gross domestic product (GDP) grew 3.4 per cent in the September quarter and by 3.1 per cent in the December quarter. The RBA is forecasting the economy will expand 3.5% over this year "

Grand Potentate Grand Potentate you were asking about the variant fourth wave: its here! The question is now how much we can blunt it with vaccines. We were able to take the edge of the first waves with non pharmaceutical interventions, but that means “the jackboot on the proletariat’s neck” and no freedums.

Also, it’s National Public Health Week. Help celebrate our jackbooted army intent on destroying those freedums.

Mutti Merkel's going to take charge and impose more lockdowns, rules, restrictions and to crush the regions autonomy:

Her organizational genius wasn't sufficient to implement an effective vaccination program, so what makes her qualified now? An example of a politician and leader who's stayed much too long.

Some countries distribute vaccines based on age. Some do so based on one's profession. Here's another novel way to do it.

"We have zero stock of vaccines and are not taking bookings because people come for jabs and get into fights (when we tell them we have no stocks),"

Winner gets a jab.

"It achieved the feat in 85 days, whereas the US took 89 days and China 102 days, the health ministry said.

But the country reported a record daily increase of over 150,000 cases - and more than 800 new deaths - on Sunday."

85 days at the expense of your paying customers who haven't received their goods.

That 150K is a record for increase from one day to another or it's an error - because I am pretty sure India was raging like the US at over 250K a day.

Left jab then right hook

”It's part of a larger trend; as a society we’ve become indoor cats. A 2019 study by the Outdoor Foundation found that nearly half of all Americans do not participate in any outdoor recreation, while only 17.9 percent even go outside at least once a week.

Maybe we needed to learn to suffer a bit when it comes to ’dining out.’

It seems that we just do not like to be uncomfortable or inconvenienced.”

How about no one likes to sit outside when it is near freezing temperatures with snow flurries topping up your glass of water? We have evolved as a species. Why not just live and eat like a caveman?

Learn to suffer a bit is not going to motivate someone to get the vaccine.

"Beijing has insisted the jabs are effective and said in March that obtaining visas would be easier for foreigners who have received a Chinese vaccine."

Double mask. Double vax.

"'He added that his earlier admission that Chinese vaccines had a low protection rate were a 'complete misunderstanding'. Mr Gao's original and later comments have been largely unreported by Chinese media."

After a quick phone call from the politburo....

Australia abandons COVID-19 vaccination targets after new advice on AstraZeneca shots

"Australia has abandoned a goal to vaccinate nearly all of its 26 million population by the end of 2021 following advice that people under the age of 50 take Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine rather than AstraZeneca's shot.

Australia, which had banked on the AstraZeneca vaccine for the majority of its shots, had no plans to set any new targets for completing its vaccination program, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said in a Facebook post on Sunday afternoon."

“The researchers found that only 249 out of 36,509 people of those who reported positive tests before Oct. 1, or 0.7 percent, tested positive again more than 90 days later. In other words, people who had been infected with a pre-existing variant were not at higher risk of being reinfected with the B.1.1.7 variant.”

Natural Immunity.

So I usually default to blaming incompetence and bureaucracy over conspiracy in explaining government failures, but this evil fucker was behind all our problems late last year:

https://www.statnews.com/2021/01/31...ied-to-deny-states-money-for-vaccine-rollout/
Confusing article.
Is it saying the feds were giving the states $200m between them all?

If so that’s 2/5ths of sfa.

Even $200m each is sfa in this or almost any context.

I’ve been in small NFPs with bigger budgets

The $200 mil is an annual bioterrorism and pandemic preparedness grant - we’ve been getting that for 20 years now (since the 2001 anthrax attacks). That pays for the folks (myself included) who have been preparing for this response for years. But because we were a little busy with the whole pandemic response last year, we didn’t have time to also do exercises and preparedness stuff - hence unspent money.

The vaccine roll-out here should have been been so much stronger, but we were hampered by the funding delay. It has been incredibly frustrating- given the years of work that went in to getting us ready for just this event.

We are paused on using the Jansen vaccine now. “Over abundance of caution”, though we were mostly only using that one for special pops (homeless, prisoners, rehabs, etc).

Because a few of those people died?

Amongst the homeless, prisoners and rehab.....

  • 25-year-old male with no past medical history and no concurrent medications experienced a transverse sinus thrombosis on Day 21 following vaccination
  • A 30-year-old female with hypothyroidism, obesity (body mass index: 36.5 kg/m2), headaches, anxiety and depression and use of multiple medications including medroxyprogesterone, experienced a pulmonary embolism on Day 3 following vaccination.
  • A 52-year-old male with obesity (body mass index: 32.4 kg/m2) experienced a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) on Day 27 following vaccination.
  • A 63-year-old male with type 2 diabetes, hypertension and osteoarthritis experienced a DVT on Day 23 following vaccination
  • A 49-year-old female with no past medical history and medication use including medroxyprogesterone experienced hemiparesis on Day 28 following vaccination.

"Hundreds of devotees, including nine top saints, have tested positive for Covid-19 in India's Haridwar city where huge crowds have gathered to participate in the Kumbh Mela festival."

""Ma [mother] Ganga's blessings are there in the flow [of the river]. So there should be no corona[virus],"

“But the United States also bears more than a little responsibility for the WHO’s inability to answer basic questions about Covid-19, namely because Washington has donated billions of taxpayer dollars to the global health body without demanding any accountability in return. That needs to end.

President Joe Biden, like former President Donald Trump, recognizes that the WHO has mismanaged the pandemic.”

An absolute disgrace...

"Out of an abundance of caution" must be a new buzz term in the Anglo world. I hear abundant a lot - but from Italians. Otherwise I hear it from farmers or surveyors.

I wasn't joking about offloading Johnson and Johnson at a discount to a sh@thole country. There is bound to be someone desperate for it and willing to take the risk of a few dead here and there.

Ganges water has been shown to be far more effective than AstraZeneca.
Probably because you get infected from that putrid filth with something even more predatory than coronavirus.

Regularly eating at McDonalds is more predatory than Coronavirus, so I’m not sure that’s a useful standard.

“It suggested CoronaVac was 56.5% effective in protecting people against infection two weeks after they had received their second dose, but the figure was only 3% in the timespan between the first and second doses.
This may give a key clue as to why cases may still be on the rise in Chile, where more than 7.6 million people have received the first jab, but the number of those who have had both the first and second doses is much lower.”

3 percent? I might as well swallow some anti malaria drugs.

This is really far better than we had ever hoped for a year ago:
