Hey members,

What DIY projects are you doing currently?

I just gave up on trying to adjust one of those $20 mini-sewing machines that I was given after realizing that a little gear was cracked and thus skipped, losing alignment every turn. It's not like I can order parts, and it was not that desirable anyway.
I also have a computer with fubar Windows on which I need to try to install Linux.

I don't have pictures of it yet, but I am trying to put together a new harness system for my cameras because I dislike the OEM straps.

I've used an eyebolt, nut, washer and a round eye bolt snap that all screw into the baseplate of the camera where tripod mount goes and I'm considering a rifle sling with a metal ring that I can just wear over my shoulder and hang securely when I am shooting events.

The sling goes for $35-45 from a local gun range, the hardware is about $3. It is not the prettiest looking system, but I think it'll work great and should easily support the weight of a big zoom lens.

Once I get the Sling+Bolt system working, I would like to get some coated wire and a ferrule and stop sets to loop through where strap goes and then attach it to my sling as a backup if the eyebolt somehow unscrews. This shouldn't cost more than $10.

A more popular system is called BlackRapid, but goes for at least $75+ and the small screw/fastener I've read sometimes unscrews.

I have a dead microwave. Installing a new one above the range, this one is slightly larger, so I need to shim the wall.

E erything is diy at my place. Dunno where to begin. I have an old bespoke suit I need to find time to take apart and inspect workmanship. More undo it yourself I guess.

Flood abatement

First 2 years here there was no problem. Since 2010, the water table has been crazy high, I can dig a foot down and hit water. 2 feet for sure so flooding has been an issue.

Yup. House is never in danger nor should be the barn but I have to shift the equines around. Today will be a pain. Lay a quarter mile of discharge hose for each of 2 pumps. Will get a third one going depend where/when it is needed

Thruth, have you ever had to send any horsies to the glue factory? But that is a heck of a project! Good for you, sir! I didn't know you were out there living off the land with horses and whatnot.

No, they pass away due to old age. Then a man with a truck comes to collect them for cremation.

I like wasting $$$. No, they are all rescues. Give them a good home to live out the rest of their lives
So at some stage you might be able to take me in?

I'm looking up cheap one way airfares to Canadia now

or sarto?

Absolutely be happy to have another handyman around the property. I have a self-contained suite that would be ideal for you.

But if you are alternatively considering spending your golden years with Sarto, I completely understand. Warmer weather, bespoke shirts & ties and far more interesting social intercourse. Who wouldn't.

This is awesome. I look forward to the day I can do the same with older dogs.

Noble idea. We do that with dogs too. Have 9 now and have had up to 13 at one point. All but 2 have been rescues.

Cremation?!?!

You should get that man to pass the hides on to Horween before the horses are cremated so we can all get some more shell cordovan shoes!

One less horse is one less pair of shell shoes. I am doing my part to keep the shortage going

Quarter mile? Dig a ditch man.

It obviously doesn't drain anywhere.

He's a swamp dweller.

Where does your land drain to?

^not swamp but I am surrounded by neighbours on all sides. there is no drainage system/culverts in the area. the rural municipality will not install anything nor will any neighbours participate in creating a system to take it 1.5 km to ditches along the highway. in the natural flow is to the middle of one of my pastures which is why i have to pump the way i do.

You could run it down out to your driveway and down to the road. Where is the high point on your driveway?

Barring that, just dig a pond where the low spot is and say fuck it.

Would have to cross neighbours in any E, N, W, S direction so it is a no-go. Water Authority won't approve it.

Have a pond at the Northwest corner from previous years which used to dry up but now is permanent. Lots o'ducks.

Oh yeah, the are twinning the highway so the old ditch is gone and no drainage system to get across.

Believe me. I'm doing the only thing I can't do.

Horsemeat tastes pretty good too if your horses are healthy. Lot of 'free' nutritious food there if you choose to use it.

edit: I don't know about old age natural death horse meat though.

Well, you have to have an ingress/egress easement. That's where your drive is. I don't know your elevations, but I'd be happy to look at it if you have a topo. I piddle with house stuff, but moving dirt and laying pipe is actually my day job.
