Energy/Power Generation News and Debate

Nuclear energy is proven and viable.
We'll see what this winter brings, if the lights go out in Europe and in the UK the political landscape will change significantly. When you're having to pig-it with the whole family in one bed and your granny is freezing to death it will focus the mind away from the Greta Thunberg and the Great Resets of this world. The questions and the answers will change. And there will be the devil to pay.

The last bad winters here in the Netherlands followed the poor summer of 2011, and this year the summer was also not good and so far the start of October, except for yesterday, has been rather wintery indeed.

I've read Dutch greenhouses had to cut the growing seasons because of the energy situation. You get to freeze for Gremlin Greta and you get to starve too.

Funny, how many people work in greenhouses with much higher levels of CO2 than the ambient and aren't any worse for wear, yet somehow it is a pollutant and will kill us all according to the lefties.

Confirmed they've cut the season and there's a shortage of labour too.

We're going to get hard lesson in what it means to give up cost effective and reliable energy for intermittent and more expensive ones

There's rumours too that Shell's going to HQ elsewhere. That will be a shock to them.

Will they be classing biomass as a renewable by that time:

The reason it's the biggest emitter may have something to do with it being the biggest fucking power plant in the UK. One of the largest in Europe, in fact.

One would hope they've factored in size into their calculations. The experience in the Netherlands is that the biomass power plants are big polluters, more so than modern coal power stations, but get a free pass on the ''renewable'' fuel pellets and they're being used to pump up the renewable figures which are embarrassing based on solar and wind.

Well, you would think they would/should wouldn't you?

This will turn out horribly. The grid has been increasingly unstable over the last decade, next year plenty of coal and nuclear is going offline, while not nearly being replaced with enough renewables and especially storage capacity. The additional infrastructure for this isn’t even being built and what’s already there is decaying rapidly.

How bad will climate change be? Not very.

It gets worse as the ESG boards and the lack of investment in oil & gas is going to create an artificial shortage of high density fuel just as demand for oil peaks. $150 a barrel oil will be devastating to the word economy as regards growth. The equivalent in coal is already $250 and still renewables can't compete. The OPEC nations don't look like getting back to a semblance of normal until 2027, that may well change.

BP is lost and has already committed itself to become a sandal wearing offshore wind farm company for which it has arrived late, already tried under Mr Brown in the late 1990s and failed, unless they're going to pull the rabbit out of the hat with grey and green hydrogen?

Difficult to say what the play is, Shell may or may not be considering HQ outside of the Netherlands. ExxonMobil appears under pressure of the ESG board members to be considering pulling out of the Mozambique and Vietnam projects. Those projects will go ahead with or without ExxonMobil.

But there may be a long play in it...let the proverbial hit the fan and step in to save the day. Or harvest what you've already got before government diktat brings a moratorium on extraction and operations?

At this stage, there is no solution to the energy and products in a barrel of oil, unless the mission is pre-industrialised societies, expectations and population size. And certainly elements of the Great Reset plan to deliver reduced lifestyles for the masses.

Don't know about products, but energy generation wouldn't be a problem. It's just a huge undertaking that apparently no one is willing to do. But the solutions are pretty much all there.

And here's one undertaking:

The proverbial: cut off your nose to spite your face...

Intriguingly, the rebranded and very Green former Statoil is drilling and making more revenue from oil than ever before. The Norwegians are not so dumb. Still, Scotland will always have whisky to fall back on to supplement the dole money from soft Johnny English. As the old saying goes, when the oil industry leaves Aberdeen it will be one destitute and desperate place. The analogy to the mining industry doesn't even come close.

We're building more nuclear. Free energy forever.

€40,000 just for installation, compared to a couple of grand for a gas boiler, it should be a non-starter until the technology is there, but not for our dumb ass leaders weaning us off the Russkie oil, gas and coal:
