General fitness

My wife uses Peloton. I believe she is still very partial to it, but she also uses a lot of my workout gear as well.

I’ve been doing well lately with the same mix of daily light cardio and strength training on alternate days. I cut down my protein goals and just eat normally with an added protein shake in the morning. The result has been keeping all the muscle mass and loosing a few pounds of fat. I’ve had several people say I look like I’ve bulked up and extra muscley, but I think it’s just getting back to lean muscle

Ahh. I just recall a coworker raving about the group challenges (he called it a cult) and it seemed like a thing where you need a mass of people interested to maintain that inertia.

Now you can cut and rip off that shirt for the beach.

This was one of the lectures I signed up to at my alumni open house. It starts off with some deep dive into why people die and then goes into healthy behaviours to get not just a long life but a high function one.

Some interesting stats on mortality. Obvious ones on physical activity, don’t smoke, drinking, sleep well etc. But some shocking ones like if you sit at a 60 hour job and you are physically active you still have a 16% higher chance of dying from sitting too much.

What is a "sixty hour job"? If that's sixty hours a week of desk work, that sure sounds like a "white collar galley slave' existence!

12 hours a day for 5 days a week or 10-11 hour days and a half day on a weekend. But never fear, artificial intelligence will liberate us from the shackles of a desk.

It sounds better than the North Koreans working construction in Russia where the shift is 6:00 AM-2:00 AM with two days off per year/assignment.

Sleep study. Part 2. Hopefully they see all the improvements with O2 that my amateur gadgets sort of detect.

Not sure there is much to do about my heart rate though.

My pulse dropped to 30 last night according to my watch.

I got my updated sleep report back. It's only on 4 hours of sleep because I changed cpap masks in the middle and was wired up last that night.

The good news is my oxygen only dropped to 94. Was better than 90 last time without cpap and the 80s and even twice 70s I got monitoring with a smart watch. My pulse is average 41 but drops to 30s so that matches what I have.

The settings were basically the same as the ones recommended by the online forum of ex/part time sleep technicians.

But the best thing is my deep sleep went from 1.5% of a sleep cycle to 11.6%. Still below normal and my REM went from 12.5% to 24.2% which explains all the crazy long duration dreams I have had since I have been trying this since the end of June.

Heart rate lows during my sleep dropped to low 30s or even 30 during the summer. Sleeping in 19c-21c ambient temperature is boosting that to 36-39. Other than lower bedroom temperatures the only other change is I barely use blankets in the summer but I am using 2 now late autumn.

I am back on a weight loss streak in the colder weather. Hit 61kg this morning. I don't think I will ever fit my black tie stuff.

I weigh 59.5kg now. Going into high school territory.

🤷‍♂️

My heart checks out okay. It is slow. In fact I was at 49bpm during the ECG. But no pathological problems. ChatGPT says the results look great given my age when there should be some signs of decay.

So our building bought new weight machines because previously it was one universal machine plus a leg press one. Except now there is one for regular leg curl but the seat doesn’t flip so I can do reverse leg curl which is what I am used to. I find the reverse helps me walk up stairs and not fall flat on my face as I have experienced in the past when I slip and miss a step due to fatigue.

I really don’t want to use a dumb bell, clamp it in between my ankles or feet and do the same motion on a bench.

Cardiologist says I am okay. Even though after a big cup of coffee I racked up a 105/58 blood pressure.
