Great Cars

Wait, weren't you the guy who doesn't want to drive an Aston Martin?

Yeah. Aston Martin is not my style of car. I'd take a 911 over an Aston any day. Though I'd love to own a Lagonda, ha ha.

Well, I'll buy a 911, you get a DBS, and I will trade you.

You would go for a Lagonda? Srsly? I love Aston, but the Lagonda looks like something my Grandma would drive.

Ha ha, no way. I had no idea they were putting out a new one. I meant the original...

Yeah, it looks way to much like the old one to me. I'm not into 80's geometric cars at all.

The design queues look too much like all the other Aston cars. It looks like a Jag too.

Interesting. I don't see any of that. I see a late 80's Buick.

The new DB10 looks completely different, like an Aston should.

That's a good looking car. A bit stout at the back, but a great front end.

Still wouldn't drive one.

Pagani Zonda, y'all.
I can't get too worked up over supercars, as I can barely extract the performance potential of my cheapo car on public roads without risking an impound and license suspension. Also, there is narrow overlap for cars that are great to drive and cars that are great to own.

Pretty much how every Aston looks.

I think the balance is off in the rear, like the Jag F Type, but I'd still take it.

I'm not a Ferrari man whatsoever, but I have really dug the new F12 for whatever reason.

This is one of the best test drives I've ever seen. It could be my favorite super-car ever. If not the Zonda R, it's this. The guy presenting does this so much justice.

The Dino 246 GT really is a fantastically beautiful car. To my mind, it's probably the best-looking Ferrari ever (it was made by Ferrari, even though it wasn't badged as such as it had a V6 engine rather than a V8 or V12). The next most beautiful is probably the 250 GTO.

Some years back, I was living in a townhouse that was opposite a lovely old building that housed a kindergarten. It was in quite an upmarket, affluent area of the city in which I live. My bus-stop was outside the kindergarten and so I used to see quite a few Mercedes, BMWs, Audis, Range Rovers and so on dropping off kids. There was a man who looked to be about 40 who regularly dropped off his young boy in a big Merc that had the full AMG package, including a stonking big V12. When he hopped out of the car to open the door for his kid, he'd regularly be wearing a t-shirt and a pair of board shorts.

One morning, as I was waiting at the bus-stop, I heard the most fantastic engine note. I could tell that it was some streets away but it was getting closer and louder. It wasn't raucous, but it wasn't too deep and farty, either. It was really mellow with a lovely burble and the occasional little pop-pop-pop on the over-run as the driver went down through the gears. Suddenly, as the noise reached a crescendo, what should come around the corner but an absolutely gorgeous, bright-red Dino 246 GT. It drove past me, did a u-turn, and pulled up outside the kindergarten. The driver's door opened and who should hop out but the AMG guy, wearing a t-shirt and a pair of board-shorts?!?! He opened the passenger door and out hopped his three-year-old kid and they walked into the kindy together.

I don't think that I've ever wanted to be a child again - a child in that guy's family - as much as at that one time...

Despite having had a bright little swoopy coupe when younger, the attention that such cars bring to the revenue collectors kills them for my pragmatic self.
This is about the pinnacle of automotive form and function in my book. I'm biased from owning an e2b 535i for many years though.

Back when BMW made spry Bauhaus beauties. It seems so long ago.

For me it's the 250 GTO. The rear end of that car is just stunning, and it has a great race pedigree.

Walking around the McLaren showroom in Knightsbridge is a good time, I highly recommend it.

You fellas can keep those old Ferraris. Bunch a limp wristed Italian nonsense.

Forward this to about a minute, and you'll be blown away. It's incredible how these guys can do this. I could drive a powerful race car and bring in a decent lap time, but this? No way I could do it.

WTF?
Well it's not as drop-dead gorgeous as a 3.0 csi, but it's a handsome car.

Besides the overplumped appearance, I'm referring to how BMW used to know how to keep the weight off. Used to.

Oh, let's get light...

I was going to post a Lotus 7/super 7/caterham/Rotus but could not find a decent vid of it being put through its paces.

I don't really aesthetically like any BMW until the 90's, but I find the 6 series the worst of the bunch.

The E39 and F10 M5's will pretty much make me nut on sight though. The M1's are fun too.

I happen to have a BMW currently, but don't let that get out. And yes, it weighs more than an F150 (literally).

Now that is great! I used to watch autocrosses on occasion and while impressive, it was never like that.

The real "German" BMWs had a jolie laide to them. They were businesslike, not sumptuous.

Here's one of the few modern cars that I can call pretty.

For me, I would love to own a 500E. Those cars are going to become very highly sought after classics one day. Hand build by Porsche.

You guys only know about shit cars.

Cars that I get wet just by hearing their name
Lancia Delta Integrale HF
Lancia Fulvia
Lancia 037
Alfa Romeo GTV6
