What brands are you guys using? Any problems? Any brand worth staying away from? Horrible customer service?

I've been looking through reviews online and I swear to christ that Whirlpool is padding their online reviews. Check out Lowes and Home Depot.com and you'll see that some of their models have thousands of reviews while other brands have around 20. Seems like its that way for other sites as well.

Dishwashers seem to be a complete tossup. For each brand, and ever positive review, there seem to be two negative reviews.

Bosch Siemens Neff are all the same company. Some Bosch dishwashers seemed identical to Siemens ones when I was looking for a new one recently (in price too), not really sure why they bother having the different brands. I ended up with a Siemens dishwasher that is amazingly quiet. Also very efficient with both water and electricity. It did cost about $1100.

I like Leibherr fridges. Apparently they make the innards for all sorts of other fridge brands, including more expensive ones like Miele. Not that they're cheap themselves. Some of them come with "biofresh" compartments, which sounds like nonsense but I swear it keeps things fresher for longer (something to do with regulation of moisture).

Speaking of fridges... how the fuck did they get so expensive? I saw fridges recently for $8000 that didn't look that special.

It seems to get a decent fridge now, you have to spend $3000.

Around stoves, Rambo. This is a very personal thing as I cook a lot. I currently have a Kitchen-Aid electric (wish I had gas). If I recall, the Kitchen-Aid is now part of Whirlpool which also owns Maytag, Jenn-Air and Amana.

Miele also makes nice shit but its expensive. Very expensive. If I were to buy a new stove I'd convert to gas, otherwise I'd go with Bosch.

Nah, Miele is too fancy schmancy for this. Just general big-box store brands.

Here's what I'm talking about in regards to the Whirlpool and Maytag reviews:

Look at how the ratings are almost completely dominated by the two brands. And also how many more reviews they have as opposed to everyone else.

Its possible its a stocking stuffer review. But its also the shit people buy more of.

Ken more is definitely an option. Although, Sears does have horrendous customer service. Frigidaire is out. Not had good experience with them.

We don't have Siemens here in the US. And Phillips doesn't manufacture appliances under that brand name.

You need to leave that horror state.

One among MANY companies that will ship to your shit state for FREE and NO SALES TAX. I really have no clue why you're excluding tons of options. Are you afraid of having appliances shipped from distance or something?

Well, first off, they're not for me. Secondly, I wouldn't buy an appliance without at least seeing it first. And third, Bosch is German, and there's some cultural issues there.

Cultural? Is your friend Austrian or something? Your Austrian friend is missing out on some of the best products in the world across the board.

So, I'm unfortunately back at this. Need a refrigerator and range after our Samsung shit has proven to be shit. We're not buying anything LG or Samsung or Frigidaire. Whirlpool and GE reviews seem to be mostly fake, and the ones that aren't report LOTS of issues, so I honestly don't know where to turn. Any Americans got opinions on what brands are worthwhile? doghouse doghouse MFDoom Thruth Thruth COG Peak Jan Libourel I need to source some user reviews on these things.

Cry me a river - been 3 months and counting waiting for a part for my Gorenje dishwasher. Yeah, I can't say it either - nor apparently can the person filling out the fucking spare part requisition.

Yes true, and of course I can say "gor-wren-ye", but the joke was for our American friends. The real problem is that the liberal Swedes from ASKO have the service and parts contract here so this guy is probably in charge of ordering the new pump...

Major appliances are a crap shoot at best these days. When we added on a suite for my mother-in-law, we bought Maytag (Whirlpool). The appliances outlived her. No blips in almost 5 years, which sadly is top performance these days.

Would not waste my piss on Electrolux. Fridge & range were both garbage.

From the high-end side, I would buy SubZero & Wolf again in a heartbeat, but I don't think you are looking at this level of appliances.

Yeah, I think I have an Amana or something. It's a bifurcated market, so if you are not buying top end, just go as cheap as you want.

I can't remember the cutesy Canadian-made brand that relatives have but it seems to be holding up. The spendier brands (not just models) tend to at least have some durability, if not reliability, and a parts supply and customer service department that doesn't vanish.

Whirlpool is massive and owns these brands:

Thermador?

Thermador?
I thought it had some weird Euro name, but the relatively small sizes available, the bottom freezer and styling look familiar, so could be. I recall that it did not have dual compressors a la SubZero.

I have had good luck with LG for washer and dryer. But if that isn't an option, I've gone with Liebherr for my fridge as they are one of the only built in manufacturers. I've been happy with it but they can be tough to find someone to work on them if something goes awry. Feature wise they are in the Sub-Zero range, but a little easier on the wallet. I think Viking bought a fridge manufacturer to?
