Hi all!

Recently I bought a very cheap shirts that fit nice in the shoulders and sleeve lenght but as usual, the body is quite big. They cost me around $24 dollars, so spending $13 to get them taken in at the sides, it's nonsense. Since there are around 10 shirts it's cheaper to buy a sewing machine and do it myself. I have already read some tutorials and it's quite easy.

But the fix I would like to know, is the sometimes excess of fabric you get under the collar. I'm trying to find a tutorial to make that alteration (or if it can be donde) but I can find it. Maybe it's because I don't know how is it called.

But, can it be altered that part of the shirt?

Yes, exactly.

If it's a split yoke, there is a little bit you can do to take it up, but you have to be careful that you don't take too much out of the top, and sewing the collar back on is tricky. If it's a single yoke, then it's even more trouble. I wouldn't bother with either on such inexpensive shirts.

I have actuallt been thinking about this, but im terrified of fucking up the shirts. It usually costs me 8 dollars for the darts or 12 to do the sides. The sleeves are usually 12 dollars too.

I would like to se how the process is and then see if it's feasable to do it myself or leave it like that.

You are most likely looking at a neckfold/ straight shoulders alteration.

Couldn't agree more. It's a serious re-cut of the shirt's neck area and it won't look good afterwards. It's easily a one to two hour job for a pro (undoing the collar, re- sewing the front yoke seams to straighten the shoulders and then make the new neck hole match the existing collar). Plus it's not a job that can be well done with a rather simple, cheap household sewing machine.
