Ok, so we're going to stick around for a little longer. But the status quo kind of sucks a bag of dicks. So, ITT, we figure out some ways to improve on the home base. Feel free to fire any suggestions my way. Any and all would be appreciated.

I've tried and failed to get anyone to sign up. But it's clear to me that recruitment is key. Pirating away from other fora may have some benefit, but I think fishing other waters might be better. I think I'll e-mail a link to the Strange and Unusual thread to a bunch of people and let it be their problem that they have to sign up to see it.
To be ridiculous, one could print up business cards or the like for the site and go leaving them in clothing stores or the like.

I'll make an effort to post more of my clothing musings in that section. I don't have the kind of time that I used to :(

But I'm really glad that this place is sticking around. :dave::dave::dave:

Edit: maybe we should do more to attract the gays? A male member appreciation thread, as it were?

I'm assuming that Rambo has sent an APB out to current members to alert them that the place has picked up a bit? Add a bit of momentum from the latent members.

I dig VDWW! I try to post all the time. Rambo.....you should puts to keep WVDW up until the end of the year! DWVW is the first site I check whenever I go online!
LONG LIVE WWDV!!!

As Chorn Chorn once said, I think what we need is more outfits. Sometimes the critics are very harsh and that doesn't encourage posters to keep posting and variety, it would be nice to see other posters that have never posted an outfit.

About bringing more people... I don't know how to. Personally I don't know a lot of people that are use to forums other than cars forums.

The critics here are harsh? Or you mean the ones over at SF?

We don't necessarily need only clothing guys. One of the things that I liked about SF was how it used to be a one stop shop for all things to talk about. If it was just a clothing only forum I don't think I would have ever stuck around.

Glad to hear the news, Rambo. Add the donations button. I'll cover it. PM me.
I sent out a message to the guy but I think he's on vacation for Thanksgiving.
We can also use Facebook as recruit.
Well, you can. I cannot, since I'm now divorced.

Good idea. I'll add that feature in.

Don't we have one of those?

Why is this in the dumb threads section?
Because its where all the serious people hang out. Plus, it requires registration to view. Probably best for this type of thread.

That would be great. Remind them though that they need to register to see it.

I have read here some harsh critics hehe but agree on the diversity of topics.

well if we want to attract the hoi polloi we might consider all adopting the virtual jet-set life, start a hedge fund, cure cancer, and have the best tailors in Napoli call us asking us how a Spalla Camica is properly executed.

Can't we just get some free pants for Foo and watch the internet crumble down around him?

Nah, because there are too many reasonable people who would tilt their lance of reasonableness at His Fooness

Wow, I totally forgot badger and blade. Walked away from that site after the head honcho started being dickish to his former favored razor makers (decent craftsmen by many accounts).

...not that I have need to shave these days, with this Metal Face I sport. (

ahem)

Who? Joel? Is he even around there any longer?

Break things down further into sections and sub sections. Why is there only one area for clothes? Streetwear and suits are two entirely different things. One big mess catchall is not user friendly. A jeans guy, punk or goth doesn't want to see anything suit and tie and vice versa.

I wasn't joking when I said Rome wasn't built in a day. If you think you're going to instantly be a SUFU, SF, AA, Badger and Blade or anything close remember these sites have been around for years and even a decade or better. Time and good SEO work is your friend.

Use social media and learn how to use it wisely. Don't be a fucktard or anything like that. Content is critical. Good content gets results.

Quit trying to make the place something it's not. Make it unique and different. Steer it in a direction but let it evolve naturally into it's own thing.

This shit is what I do for a living. Cranes com site made jack shit it's first year out. Now it generates hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. My winery client's site sucked and wasn't doing anything for business. I took it over and two years later while everyone else (wineries) is losing money my client had an increase in revenue of 25% over last year and last year was up as well. Now they're adding 500 more seats to the outdoor concert area and expanding the main building.
Alright, this needs a breakdown:

Dividing the fora - so what new areas would you like to see? We have no one posting streetwear, so what's the point in having that? I kept it small because I didn't want to have 20 sub forums with only one thread in each. Hell, we have a hard enough time filling the current forums we have.

I don't want to be any of those forums, and I don't think anyone else does either. And I'm not in a hurry either. But when you don't have anyone register for 3 months, and the members that do come hardly post, that's a sign that something's got to change.

What would you recommend as far as content on social media? This is absolutely not my area of expertise. Unless its snarky comments. That I'm REALLY good at.

The only thing I was trying to make the place was Active. Alive. Worth visiting. I could give a shit about winning a popularity contest. You should have at least picked up that much from me by now.

Now that the wizard is out from behind the curtain, maybe he would like to lend his expert suggestions on a more detailed basis. This yellow brick road ain't gonna build itself ya know...

Who, me? It was probably me. I swear, I love your cinnamon bun style pocket squares!

Hahaha nothing to do with the cinnamon bun style pocket square hahaha.

I like the idea of the email.

Oh you want a breakdown? Let's start with the very first thing. The domain name. If you have no idea what wdwv is you are most likely not going to click through to find out. The name of the domain is critical. welldressed dot net com would yield much better search results. I'm going to be doing wedding photography in Hermann starting in the spring. I thought long and hard about a site URL and I picked hermannweddings dot com. Any search criteria entered into an engine with the words hermann and wedding/s is going to put me in the first two returns if not the first return every single time. Why? Because I own the domain and domain level returns parse the highest and then it goes down from there.
I know. Trouble is, welldressed.com & .net were both taken. And I couldn't think of anything that gave an visual idea of what I was trying to build. So I had the well dressed well versed thing, and some of the fuckers on SF said they thought it was a good idea, so I went with it. Then I started to hate it, and everyone was calling it WDWV anyway, so I just shortened it up. The one good thing about WDWV is how short it is. And, really, nothing is EVER going to be as easy as StyleForum.

If you can come up with something for us to switch over to I'm perfectly open to the idea of rebranding this bitch.

See if any of the other dots are available. Reversing it would work too. IE dressedwell dot somethiing. The forum name can be played as a byline. Well dressed is well versed. Yeah styleforum is a no brainer. Getting that URL was a wise move.
Nope, all the other dots except for .biz are taken. Dressedwell.net is available. So is well-dressed.net and discussingstyle.com

Lookwell.com is taken, just in case anyone was heading that way.:minion_duck:
I actually like the name, as it infers an intellectual superiority that is somewhat belied by the crass sophomoric humor that we all love

look, I recall a statistic that cited 1 in 10 swing both ways. if we have 10 regulars, then, statistically speaking we have one, even if he doesn't realise it.

I love that this is in the dumb threads section.

Bring back the trannies I say.

I don't want to be any of those forums, and I don't think anyone else does either.

I have some random thoughts about this -

It struck me that WDWV has similarities with The London Lounge. I don't know the history exactly, but I get the impression Michael Alden set it up because he was pissed off with SF and wanted somewhere that was more top end, more gentlemanly, no rudeness, silliness etc. He didn't necessarily care about having loads of members or making money, he just wanted a place to hang out that fit his preferences. He succeeded, creating a unique place with a distinct atmosphere. The pace over there is glacial, but that's ok. This place was set up with similar (albeit basically opposite) intentions and I think we're well on the way. The clothes section has a nice mellow feel, and actually a pretty quality WAYWT thread with some top dressers. And of course DT. Ape SF and we'll always come off second best. Being distinct is key - the mellowness of the clothing threads and the uncensordness of DT seem to me the key differences.

Alden presumably turns a profit from his cloth club (or covers his costs). Some kind of USP like that for WDWV would be great and would help engagement and eventually generate some income unrelated to advertising. Though here I run out of ideas. I was excited by the group order on the shoes and disappointed when it didn't happen. Clearly there aren't enough of us to do that sort of thing on a regular basis yet, but it's a thought.

I'm sure you've tried already but a good way to spread the word would be to get mentions on some popular blogs or tumblrs. Someone like Put This On would be good. I don't know if there's a way of reaching out to those guys.
