It's always five o'clock somewhere

From the person who does not own a microwave we already knew that.

In case I haven’t already made it abundantly clear: my standards for women are low, my standards for alcohol even lower.

Does an excess of the latter reduce the standard of the former? Or it is consistent regardless…

My barber had some good whiskeys in the shop

Is cognac overrated?

I collected a bunch of XO during my duty free travels plus some interesting whiskys but now I've depleted everything. (Also highly suspect my cousins started imbibing when I wasn't present).

I'm trying to restock the bar at my aunt's house now that my brother moved to the same neighbourhood and family events have shifted away from my place.

My picks for this Christmas since I'm doing a French theme.

Pre-dinner: Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais AOC (although how it went past $20 these days is beyond me)
Canapes: Taittinger Brut Réserve Champagne NV (it's on sale)
Dinner: Famille Perrin Les Sinards Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Willm Réserve Riesling for red and white choices (the former I discovered during the virus)
Digestif: Martell Blue Swift Cognac (normally it's armagnac but I thought I'd cash in some gift cards)

The women at my family dinners are snobs. They only drink if it's champagne. A great cremant or my favourite lambrusco and they would rather stay dry. Good marketing France.

We are going to do some tasting at a few Southern Californian wineries today. I’m curious to try their ‘white Merlot’

I decided to go on a health kick after last week, so bought one bottle of wine to last me seven days.

This was day six. There’s none left in the bottle, so I had to get creative. I call this El Megroni Blanco:

Mix in equal parts and serve over ice.

I don’t think I’ve ever tried white port, but I’ve heard it works well in martinis and G&Ts. It’s on my To Try list now.

I’m going to play around a little with martinis this Xmas, but I just had some of this at my barber’s and it was pretty good (for a cheapie):

I should buy a case of American booze before the ban on Tuesday and then resell it on Kijiji or something after the ban. But which one would people want the most? Can't make money off something like Tito's.

We can be bootleggers! I’ll send you Tito’s from here and you smuggle me some Canadian whiskey. I’ve got just the Tommy gun for this fit

Well a lot of people bought US booze they didn't really need yesterday. But hey, dry January is over.

Apparently we're running out of bourbon here in this province with the US liquor boycott. This includes the bar rail variety of Bulleit.

Drinks like old fashioneds and manhattans are at risk. If I recall correctly, the writer of the article also said these aren't super popular drinks these days and local bartenders are using different brown stuff as a substitute.

Reminds me of the pub next to our office back when I worked in the City.....my work mates usually went to The Lamb or New Moon though.
