Love It or Hate It?

The pocket square is out of of place, the bunching of the collar pin appears constricting, the throat latch is too casual for the shirt and the tie. It reminds me of RLPL catalog picture done in a horrible fashion

Does it also seem larger than normal? I don't know but everything seems kind of out of proportion when I look at it. The tab seems large and not as refined as many others you see.
The ticket pocket flap does appear longer than the other flap. The collar tab (is that what it is called? Throat latch?) has a puffy, swollen appearance.
I agree that there is fare more interesting insight into the elements of style and bespoke with the King...
Some of the King's commissions are interesting. Some are puzzling. Maybe I should invite him to join?
I'm with Mr. Mellor on this. The exotic interpretation puts everything in a new focus. It's all now unfamiliar enough to demand investigation.
The actual fit of his things is always, to me, a bit off: the back is never smooth, the sleeves seems snug. I'm not sure what the story is with the tailoring but he likely graduated from RTW too early.
The man loves clothes and dressing. He seems bent on instructing his fellow Bengalis and he has a following. You know, as a prolific WAYW poster, he could find a symbiotic arrangement here.

Well, that was god damned unpleasant. So thanks for that.

Here's this.

I highly doubt anyone here is in the "love it" camp on that one...
I could possibly be swayed were this clearly intended to be some hunting/tactical garment.

Was the first post of his intended to be a possible "Love It"???

I think, as previously stated, that the King has some knowledge and access to bespoke but he goes overboard on some of the design elements. Plus, at least for me, many of the accent colours work against his attempts at dandyism.

I don't think anyone is in the "love" camp.

This is not bad. Don't like the square but that is purely me & my peculiarities

It is his smouldering eyes and come hither look that draws me back again and again!

That dark DB is nifty. The stripes appear to be purple. The collar peaks as well. The stripes match at the lapel/collar seam.
Sadly, the back view has issues. There's that underarm rippling he gets, and also a bit at the waist. The pattern alignment needs work. He also has the overhanging shoulder pads that create the sleeve "divots."

I wonder if some of this is due to:

1. Limitations in his tailor's abilities

2. Weight change

3. It is 9000 degrees in Dhaka and even with AC he is swimming in sweat and fabric clings and twists.

I will give him credit that he is not overly concerned with demonstrating the perfect fit but rather his overall sartorial package.

That's my guess, as well as the fact that I imagine he's using very sheer fabrics with almost no body to them. And the personal humidity factor.

I have no idea why he always appears to be looking down, but I like how he does not smile.

I agree on many levels. The mark of the iGent is the retarded slavishiness to minutiae and not what the hell one actually looks like.

Though the bunched sleeves a couple photos up the page is pretty egregious.

Agreed. The King has issues with bits and pieces. I get more out of a pic of someone snapped when just being themselves rather than posing. A group shot where you say "that cat's suit looks good".

I signed up to follow his blog as well as asked him about his fabric choices and the throat latch/ticket pocket odd jacket.

I did this out of interest and not malice.

Interesting auto-response salutation from his blog:

Howdy.

I like working shots too. Funnily that's just the thing I do say. I'm always referring to people as cats. No one else I know does it. I think I'm an old school hepcat. I also like to see people face to face in their clothes eating, walking, having drinks, relaxing. Seeing people in real life who have posted online is always instructive.

Absolutely. Cats. I'm an old guy using an even older word!

Is there a name for the sideways button flap pocket on the chest?

he says it is a prototype passport pocket. he now owns his own his own cutting & tailoring facility and is experimenting

When you are in an environment devoid of suit convention, design tweaks make perfect sense. Aesthetically, not all experiments are winners.

True. He also said the throat latch & ticket pocket was an attempt to create a hybrid. Differentiate that jacket from the norm

Seems to me he is indulging his inner sartorial self now that he has the means to make whatever he wants.

Maybe he is going through his Eric Glennie phase and will eventually come back to square.

Or maybe his clientele will dig the contrast button hole stitching and other embellishments

The DB looks good on him. The color of the shirt is questionable. Too bright.

The blue jacket below, however, looks horrendous. Either he is ill proportioned like myself or he has an incompetent tailor.

Stitch just comes across as a blob, a conglomeration of iGent ideas where the whole is less than the sum of the parts.

There are plenty of people on SF and on other clothing discussion boards like that - they're interested in clothing, come and start reading and looking at pictures, and go a bit crazy with additions to their wardrobe. So you end up seeing double monks (perhaps with one strap undone (possibly worn without socks), overly tight trousers in bright fabrics, jackets with elbow patches, bangles or beads on wrists, some sort of decoration in lapel buttonholes, and all of it crammed together in the one outfit.

Hopefully, in time, they will settle down and get a better idea of what looks good, what goes with what, and tone down their outfits and accessories and concentrate on developing a flattering, rather than trendy, fit to their clothes.

Glass half full, eh?

Yes, my wife often accuses me of being too optimistic!

I don't think that InStitches is too egregious, actually. He doesn't wear clip-on braces with $1000 bespoke pants, he doesn't wear a felt flower or some sort of gee-gaw in his buttonhole, he doesn't wear the back of his tie far longer than the front and he wears socks with his shoes.

Sure, he's perennially jumping on to the latest SF bandwagon, whether it be shoes, shirts, ties, suits or whatever else is most popular or at its peak in the StyleForum hype cycle, but he's only one of many in that regard.

Speaking of the SF hype cycle, that is one of the things that irritates me most about SF (although it's certainly not unique to SF - I've frequented car discussion boards that were very similar, with the latest hot product being popular for a few months and then replaced by another hot product).

In the past eight or so years on SF, I've seen crazes over Santoni FAM shoes, Ferragamo Tramezza, Edward Green, C&J, Vass, Carmina, Meermin and more. Each was, for a while, the latest and greatest and people leaped on to the bandwagon and proudly showed off photos of their latest babies, only to seemingly forget about them and to proudly acquire a pair or two of the next SF darling.

I agree he is but one of many caught up in the flavour of the day. But it is the sheer volume of his insipid, vapid, add-nothing contributions that puts him in a league of his own. Now he is adding heavy-handed moderation in inappropriate places to his skill set. He is a tool of the highest quality.

It's always going to be bad with him. Given his position as quasi-official ambassador I suspect he's always going to be jumping on bandwagons, if only to push marketing and advertising of new/popular affiliates.

He is the embodiment of all that is group think and the consumerist purchasing compulsion of the forums. He's a schmuck who could just as easily be apeing GQ magazines latest 24 years old female intern's KPI fulfilling 250 word exposition on what the hot male is wearing today.

Having made more posts than a thousand monkeys at keyboards he has managed to not only makes less sense but to have less sense of style than any of those monkey's uncles. Plus he's a fuckin idiot who'd be as much fun to have a drink with as say Foo or Ron L Hubbard.

How dare you put Hubbard in with those two.
