#menswear Expressions: a taxonomy

A place to give #menswear expressions deep anal lice. This is a very serious thread for serious thinkers. We will build this taxonomy together and with great severity. With it, we will improve our decomposition of #menswear people's.

Principles of #menswear expressions (developed inductively)
P1: Eye contact with the camera, which indicates awareness on the subject's part that he is in a picture, must only be accompanied by expressions of boredom or ennui, demonstrating that while the subject is aware he is in the picture, he does not care. #menswear expressions will not in any way signal any feeling towards the fact that they are in a picture.

P2: Often expressions are poor facsimiles of those made by professional models. This is a product of either conditioning and socialization or a deliberate affect.

The taxonomy:
E1: Remembering an awkward moment
E2: Did I leave the oven on?
E3: First moment after a shart
E4: Contemplating self-harm
E5: Futurama Fry meme face
E6: Insincere boredom/Calculated apathy
E7: Completely flat expression
E8: The Discoverer
E9: Serious Business
E10: Smug Smirk
E11:


Here is an example of Expression 1 (E1): Remembering an awkward moment. Absent a squint, it is not E2 (Did I leave the oven on?). The pursed but straight lips indicate slight emotional discomfort.

I lead with this Shibumibuddy because often he makes real human faces which is very good. Sometimes though he has expressions such as the above.

Here is Mark Cho, another guy who often makes the good human faces like a real person in front of a camera who I assume is doing something he enjoys, displaying a fairly typical, but by no means exemplary, E3

Addendum: the above is not an example of E5. Any eye contact made with the camera indicated subject awareness that a picture is being taken of him, and is therefore not a #menswear expression.

Addendum to addendum: #menswear expressions can include eye contact if and only if the expression is neutral/bored/ennui/anomie

Here is DressLikeA demonstrating the proper way to make eye contact in a #menswear expression (E6). Though he acknowledges the camera, he in no way indicates anything other than apathy about its presence or the fact that he is in a picture.

One could argue that the last shows too much disdain for the camera to be apathy. I do not believe that disdainface is a true #mnswr expression though

Since there is a female in that picture, the (dominant) male possibly tries to scare off competitors.
So this is either an attempt at a Bolo stare or an "AlphaAsFuck™" stare (which could be called E7 ?).
 
It might come as a bit of a shock to this guy to know he's been identified on the internet as a Chineses.

All verrifun, but none are #menswear expressions. Either not posing for camera or are recognizing the picture are in.

I don't think #menswear expressions involve smiling. Models don't smile so #menswear doesn't smile.

On second examination, two might qualify.

The man in the hat has a perfectly blank expression. This may be q good category of #menswear expressions.

The bald man quizzically squinting is possible another example of something, but I suspect it is a real expression and not affected.

I do think the Flat Expression is a #menswear expression and will add it to the taxonomy.

Going back in time for an example of E8: The Discoverer. Somebody else is DisAg named this and I can't recall who. A #menswear expression that says you are boldly going where countless others have gone before. Except for Mr. Sleeper. As the progenitor of this expression, he got there first.

A new addition to the taxonomy is E10: Serious Business. The subject is doing something very important and is in no way posing for a picture. Ain't nobody got time for that. This fellow be earning. Dolla dolla bill y'all.

It would be easier if he was squinting. Do you have other examples of this proposed type and the principle which would underly it? If we had enough examples, by inductive principle, we would need to determine the principle by which it proliferates #menswear.

i don't know how to term it. he looks like he's staring at people walking on the bridge above him and thinking "look how poorly they're dressed. if only they had me for a friend." maybe 'the abject superiority of a #menswear man'?
