So, Your Humble Servant and Failed Dictator has inflicted much suffering in the world, it's time he takes his own self-inflicted licks. I have signed up for a marathon in mid-January. I have shoes, and a book about running, because nothing is more complicated than the old left-right-left-right. Anyway I shall post mileage updates, insignificant feelings about running and you - if you choose you read my whining auto-fail drivel - hold me accountable. Taunt me or provide encouragement. I will not vaporize you. In fact one of my insolent HQ staff has already recommended the movie Run Fatboy Run!

This month I have run 40 miles to date, now my foot hurts. (Course rules prohibit jet-packs, this seems to be a fairly common prohibition, fucking masochists). The next couple of days shall be recuperation, the program will commence to begin in just over a month. I should be in full whine in December. Mark your calendars!

The usual suspects for an aging supervillain intent on proving he can do something right.

As of late, the playlist includes:
Reflektor (Arcade Fire)
Beauty & Ruin (B. Mould)
Modern Vampires of the City
Synthetica
Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers

and smattered gems like the Stooges Search and Destroy.

If that is your real running playlist I hate you and wish to inform you that I liked running before we evolved legs.

So, first week of Hansons training schedule. Not too bad but I know it gets rougher. I am getting more deliberate and cautious about mileage and pace, running the easy days easy, which i seldom did. 35 miles this week, longest run 8.5 miles.

And I visit a doctor tomorrow to discuss this foot pain I'm having. Tired of the night splint and ibuprofen

And I'd backed off on the boozing and smoking, for various reasons. Not that I was heavily into either, but still.

....talk about suffering.

What the fuck, Doomy? A cigar and some bourbon/rum won't kill you. Man has to enjoy himself from time to time. Especially when said man has young potential world dominators running around.

Yeah but I have a health insurance screening coming up. Not that I'm unhealthy but don't want to pay the tobacco surcharge.

And my playlist has recently been taken over by Shostakovich (sym. 15, Sanderling), and Tchaikovsky (sym. 4, Markevich). Keeping the pace down for the easy runs.

...and the doctor has me off speed work fornthe next month. My life has no meaning.

But if it gets me off the pain pills, I could be happy.

I will dive further into this rabbit hole, for giggles. Booze and smokes are certainly pleasurable, but running trumps both of them. No hangovers, no ashtray-mouth, it's cheaper, clothes fit better, and I can eat anything I want without fear of packng it on. I can run alone, in the early morning, no problemo. Granted, it's not without its pitfalls.

But the mere fact that I've registered for a marathon indicates that I enjoy running and want to keep it a priority. People who just tolerate running should not sign on for 26.2. -it's a disaster in the making. It's daunting, even when you enjoy it. Hence the thread.

Finally, the doc thinks I'm being ambitious, setting 3:30 as my target. We shall see. (Cue ominous laugbter)

36 miles this week, no speedwork. Foot hurts. :( the real training starts in three weeks

6.6 / 5 5 / 0 / 7 / 5.5 / 6.2 --> 31 miles, plus Sunday's run. If I run 9 on Sunday then it's an even 40 for the week.

Weight loss has plateaued but I've been a bit indulgent lately.

Foot pain us still there but manageable and slowly diminishing.

Dum spiro spera

Ahahahaha Lordy no.

But I did get to 41 for the week. Had a beer and a smoke later on (first since last Sunday). Revamping the diet to thin out some more

Arrrg. After a 38 mile week, I 'm sidelined this week with PF, ingrown toenail, and the old surfing injury which may have been worse than I thought. Seeing my podiatrist tomorrow, and using this week to drop weight (very important)

That said, the formal training plan starts next week, I can lose a week or two at the beginning and not lose ground. And I can defer speedwork for a month, so it's not awful news.

And my knees are fine.

Well, I figure that every scenario is in play, but I have a plan to deal with Stitch:

I'll wear a shirt that advertises kitchen cabinets, or interwebs NFL broadcasts. He'll never see me.

I like long shots but figured this one was a metaphysical impossibility.

So, after getting a second opinion from my old podiatrist (why I didn't start there is a mystery), a few updates:

One - it's not quite the plantar fascia but something similar. The only things that will work are orthotics and rest. And the rest need not be especially long: a few weeks, gradually working up the volume. He is unconcerned and says i have plenty of time.
Two - my surfing toe sprain is healing nicely.
Three - I'm losing the cartilage on my big toe. Nothing to be done about it now.
Four - I apparently jammed my ankle a while back and that's impacting my ability to dorsiflex quickly - whatever that means.

Um, you better not puss out.
