Recently begun drinking it. Never thought I would. But I've got a really busy schedule these days, and play a lot of sports, and I'm damn near forty, so I can't get shitfaced as much as I used to. I'll get buzzed, but want to continue the social experience, so I'll use an O'Douls/Becks/Cutter/Genessee as a spacer. Works great.

I have never consumed a non-alcoholic beer. How does the taste compare to real beer?

I've never been impressed by them - there inst enough competition that space to make for a decent choice

as a friend of mine says: a non-alcoholic beer is the first step towards a rubber woman

I'd be happy a lot of the time to drink non alcoholic beer and wine if it tasted OK. I drink gallons from my Sodastream.

When I was making beer I made a few batches of alcoholic ginger beer and also lemonade. Very nice.

I haven't read up on why the alcoholic content seems to be integral to good wine and beer.

Anyone got some references?

I'm reading this thread because I'm approaching 48 hours of sobriety.

Taste test: the best and worst non-alcoholic beers

I think the alcohol has something to do with the flavour for beer and viscosity. For me, Odoul's is much better than Becks non-alcoholic and the difference is easy, Odoul's is 0.5% alcohol.

I've never had a good experience with non-alcoholic wine - flat or sparkling. Besides being pricey, I'd be better off just mixing some fruit juice and Perrier together. I use Fevertree tonic a lot and the bitterness helps offset the lack of alcohol. A few dashes Angostura bitters in soda also helps, but that's cheating again.

When I lived in London, my off day was ginger beer. My trying to be off day was ginger beer mixed with beer. As I dislike ginger, I'm done after a bottle.

Once upon a time, I also tried what I was told was non-alcoholic whisky. If you were a non English speaker and I described what whisky tastes like to you in English and you went off to your laboratory to try to concoct something based on adjectives you may or may not have interpreted correctly, you'd come close to what I tasted.
