Not Killing Trayvon.

All of my black friends on FB are outrageous that he didn't get convicted stating all of the misinformed facts displayed by the media. Started to get annoying.

I was reading the SF thread regarding this situation. Surprised that it was a pleasant read, not so much snark.

Martin was absolutely killed, he just wasn't murdered.

This and the populace getting peeved about governmental privacy invasions signals a trend toward sanity over lunacy.

The prosecution was zealous charging Zimmermann with second degree. If manslaughter was the initial charge, he would definitely be convicted.

I'm a criminal defense attorney so I'm biased, but I never thought he should have been charged, let alone tried. I posted a lot in the SF thread, and that's one of the few threads I still check over there. It amazed me that this local story that is in no way of national importance got blown so far out of proportion. Obama's "If I had a son he'd look like Trayvon" probably had a lot to do with that. The President has no business commenting on a local criminal investigation like this. I know he meant well but it was a disaster and it's a shame that the state had to spend $500k and Zimmerman $450k to go through this nonsense.

I was betting on some riots, not because I'm racist and think black people are violent and incapable of controlling themselves, but because that's what everybody (white and black) has been going on about for the past six months on twitter. Truthfully I'm glad there wasn't a riot.

He has said many ridiculous things in the past. But this quote takes the cake.

Reading some of the tweets on yahoo by NFL players and some African American celebrities. What a stupid bunch.

When do trends become a veritable pattern, and thus it is not racist to notice?

Is it "racist" to observe that blacks are generally more athletic than whites in the public sphere?

Why are the protests in California when this happened in Florida?

I believe the proper spelling is "Trayvon."
That is the chosen spelling of the late Mr. Martin's name. I have no idea if this is a proper name. I seriously wonder, if the United States were to have culturally approved names for official names as some Scandinavian nations do, how many would grow up with a chance of raising their socio-economic status. Were this a Joseph or William instead of a Trayvon, might he not have chosen to be a NO_LIMIT_NIGGA?

If anybody needs to STFU, it's Holder. Hello, Fast and Furious? How is this incompetent idiot still in office?

Does anyone think there is anything to discuss besides:
1. Unconstitutional and immoral limitations on the rights to bear arms and self-defense.
2. Racism whereby African-American thugs are portrayed as little angels in spite of all evidence to the contrary and all non-blacks are presumed to be racist oppressors.

I don't. No discussion with these weasels. None. They are con men, liars, scoundrels, thieves.

I would venture to guess that there are quite a number of people wanting to discuss things other than the 2 points you have listed. Especially considering how they encompass very limited viewpoint.

I'm totally onboard w/ the reverse racism theory though. It's ridiculous.

And I for one am glad SCOTUS is attacking affirmative action now.

Reverse Racism / White Guilt? Your ancestors were so bad that now you should feel guilty for being their descendants and demean yourself in the face of any other race because they're obviously superior to you. Concede any political or social position to them because they're a minority and deserve anything and everything before you.

SCOTUS this term targeted Texas AA in selection for universities. I was pleased with that.

Like I expressed before to you, I really don't think race relations (on their own) are really bad in this country. There's some ignorant pockets, but we're more harsh on those people than public condemnation of burkas and stoning of women in Muslim societies. The media, and usually liberal talking heads and public figures fan the flames of a race war to cause contention, split sides, and maintain constituencies.

Where is it proper for Pte. Obama to come in and comment on a local case in FL W/ NO NATIONAL SIGNIFICANCE AT ALL? Then to sic his attack dog Holder on the situation trying to blow it up into a Rodney King- sized epic? That's not the signature of a man who wants to bridge gaps and work across the aisle. That's a decisive move to polarize America and turn all politics into pure "us v. them."

I mean in the mass media, not here. Out there I only hear thinly disguised variants on "guns are bad" and "blame whitey" and that is not a discussion.

'Reverse' racism is racism, and thanks to a link posted here, I see that America is wise to it.

Holder's paving the way for citizens to be unable to defend themselves from government assaults. All that ammo bought up by the gov't this year (1.6 BILLION rounds?), and now no "stand your ground" for when threatened. Creating sheeple before our eyes.

Woah there Huckleberry, come on back to the stable.

Charles Barkely gets it!

Outspoken former NBA superstar Charles Barkley said he agrees with the verdict in the murder trial of George Zimmerman, but blasted the media for giving platforms to racists to “vent” their ignorance.
Barkley, 50, gave his assessment on the high-profile Florida murder trial to CNBC on Thursday, saying jurors simply did not have enough evidence to convict the former neighborhood watch volunteer in the 2012 killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
“Well I agree with the verdict,” Barkley said. “I feel sorry that young kid got killed, but they didn’t have enough evidence to charge him. Something clearly went wrong that night — clearly something went wrong — and I feel bad for anybody who loses a kid, but if you looked at the case and you don’t make it — there was some racial profiling, no question about it — but something happened that changed the dynamic of that night.”
“I feel sorry that young kid got killed, but they didn’t have enough evidence to charge him."
- Charles Barkley
Barkley recognized his take is “probably not a popular opinion among most people,” but said the evidence pointed to an acquittal.
“I just feel bad because I don’t like when race gets out in the media ‘cuz I don’t think the media has a ‘pure heart,’ as I call it,” Barkley continued. “There are very few people who have a pure heart when it comes to race. Racism is wrong in any shape [or] form — there are a lot of black people who are racist, too. I think sometimes when people talk about race, they act like only white people are racist. There are a lot of black people who are racist. And I don’t like when it gets out there in the media because I don’t think the media has clean hands.”
Barkley, originally of Alabama, was named one of the NBA’s all-time 50 greatest players in 1993, the same year he won the league’s Most Valuable Player award. The 11-time All-Star retired after the 1999-2000 season and then began a successful career as a basketball analyst for Turner Network Television. He has also flirted with the idea of entering politics, announcing in 2008 that he intended to run for governor of Alabama before later changing his mind.
“Like I said, I feel sorry that young kid got killed, but just judging by the evidence, I don’t think that guy should’ve went to jail for the rest of his life,” Barkley continued. “Mr. Zimmerman was wrong to pursue, he was racial profiling, but I think Trayvon Martin — God rest his soul — I think he did flip the switch and started beating the hell out of Mr. Zimmerman. But it was just a bad situation.”
Barkley then took aim at unnamed media personalities who allegedly allowed their own biases to show throughout coverage of the murder trial.
“The main thing I feel bad for is it gives every white person and black person who’s racist a platform to vent their ignorance,” he said. “That’s the thing that bothered me the most. I watched this trail closely and I watched these people on television talking about it. A lot of these people have a hidden agenda. They want to have their racist views, whether they are white or black … Their biases definitely come out. It was a bad situation. We all lost.”
