Permanent Style … S.C. Speaks on Ivy

Craptom is even less Ivy than Sammy Ambrose; which is not Ivy at all. But good luck to him, and seeing as he sees Ivy as a 'product' worth promoting ,the 'look' seems to still have a bit of life left in it Having said that, Crompers is only a slightly better advocate than John whatever his name is from Ivy Style.

He has a certain subdued palate, he mentioned the more bright colours not being his thing, he was of course referring to the preppy look, but didn't mention it. Crompton's blue and brown good to go, isn't going to dig the more neon side of Ivy in what developed in the 70s and 80s in the preppy side of RL and Lacoste.

Fashion changes and in the early 2010's there was a real vibe about Ivy style and return to the button-down in a big way. I moved on from that in 2015 and now I've moved on from the English T&A shirting inspired looks. Pretty much been polo shirts all this summer, even in the office. With Autumn looming, where are we going? Ties ain't coming back this year at least, not sure sport jackets and blazers either. Seems engineer, military inspired chore and Harrington jackets will be the way to go. Put on a blazer the other day and thought: nope.

Not convinced Gene Kelly was an Ivy-cat. There's an interview on Youtube where he states tongue in cheek, he's more of a proletariat type style wise.

Weller was always eclectic. His French Ivy phase was that single day trip TSC took to France for the photos of Cafe Bleu. Hardly a scene. But a great album.

Where are we going?

There's a grim irony about Craptom of Permanent Style - he has absolutely no sense of style, Ivy or otherwise. Instead, he has obsessions, follows and promotes idiotic fads, is snobbishly condescending to some and cravenly obsequious to others. None of these things help to cultivate or express style successfully, quite the opposite in fact.

It hardly needs stating, but someone who is shaped like a dildo shouldn't be giving Rubinacci 5 grand for an unfinished jacket. It's the absolute worst thing he could be wearing, but of course he has no sense of style, and so the Neapolitan obsession continues. It's the same with everything he does.

It's even worse when you consider how many tens of thousands he's spent (at least on paper). All that money down the shitter, and the best he manages to look is awkward and forced.

I just responded to your post on the other thread concerning SF’s sycophancy for the wearer of badly cut bespoke and it’s similar with Compton in that aside from the serially poor appearance of so many of his outfits it’s astounding the level of sycophancy of his followers. Even the most mundane baggy pants and T shirt is met with adulation in the comments section. It really is bizarre.
