Protests Across The Globe

"The pro-China counter protesters in Toronto asked in a mocking tone why protesters weren’t singing their national anthem."

Because the communist anthem was invented 70 years ago. God save the Queen was sung more than a century before that.

No messing around with those police. Moving with tactical precision and with no SJW BS to disable them from striking against protesters. Deployed with precision, such a force would be very useful in stopping Portland like situations. The French of course, are equally ruthless every weekend now.

Good for them to be killing protesters?

Actually they said the Hong Kong police was ill equipped. They're not used to violent mobs. Rules of engagement was an issue in the beginning.

My former boss is cashing out and leaving Hong Kong for good. Shame as he has a business there and is an employer.

All gone very quiet, other that woke sportsmen in the USA going all supporting of mainland China.

What's going on?

King James trying to quell the conflict using his wokeness. Adam Silver is a douche.

On a more serious note, this is bad publicity for China especially if Xi wants to unify Taiwan in his third term. Also if the media is restricted, much of the actual events won't come out.

You mean annex Taiwan?

By the way he is perpetual dictator. Terms are a formality. Like Putin, Maduro, and Erdogan.

We call it annex, they call it re-unification.

Xi got rid off of his opponents via "corruption" charges, he is set for the next 10 years.

Talking to a friend today who used to be a cop in Macau. Interesting to say the least.

I sense that CCP is suppressing the western coverage of the current events. Bad PR for Xi but he doesnt really care.

"The Financial Times newspaper reports that China's government is drawing up plans to remove Ms Lam, a figure loathed by protesters whom Beijing has thus far stood by. Ms Lam's office told the BBC: 'We do not comment on speculation.' China's foreign ministry said the FT report was 'a political rumour with ulterior motives'."

"The man who did the biting was subdued by a crowd, which then beat him, some using metal objects.

That is was all happening in a shopping centre being stormed by riot police in pursuit of protestors who were earlier singing and chanting made it even more intense. A small group of hardcore activists had also smashed up shops whose owners they judged to be too 'pro-Beijing'"

Don't pull out a knife and speak Mandarin in Hong Kong or you get lynched.

"Activists have built barricades across the junction - and when riot police come they face a torrent of abuse from bystanders of all ages.

Blood can still be seen on the street - and next to it graffiti reading 'we shall never surrender'.

Each time the riot police leave, the demonstrators return to erect their barricades again.

Hong Kong's political crisis - now in its fifth month - continues to become more violent."

"Hong Kong's rule of law has been pushed to the 'brink of total collapse' after more than five months of protests, police have warned.

The warning came as protesters clashed with police across the city on Tuesday.

At the Chinese University of Hong Kong, police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters who built barricades on the campus.

Earlier in the day, around 1,000 protesters rallied in central Hong Kong during the lunch hour blocking roads

Protesters, wearing office clothes, were seen chanting: 'Fight for freedom, stand with Hong Kong!'"

“Speaking to the BBC under condition of anonymity, directors at some of the biggest international banks and law firms said they are seeing their business in Hong Kong shrink as the protests continue to escalate.

Financial services make up a fifth of Hong Kong's economy and people come from all over the world to live and work here. Its large expatriate community is attracted by the low taxes, well-paid jobs, stability and high standards of living.

A banker at HSBC says only half of their staff came in to the office on Friday as people are encouraged to work remotely if they can't get in safely.

Staff are kept closely informed about the situation on the ground according to a BNP Paribas employee ‘We get regular emails early in the morning and through the day from the business continuity management team - telling us whether it's safe to go into offices - and whether we should go home early.’

Anecdotally, the political pressure from the Chinese government on banks and law firms is also growing - and it's putting pressure on staff.

Some partners in law firms are being asked to pin their colours to the mast and state whether they support the protesters or the Chinese government before winning business from Chinese firms.”

Are you wearing your nazi armband or brandishing your communist party credentials?

My accountant's son is studying over there and he went over to see him for a couple of weeks before Christmas. He didn't see nuthin' of any protests.

That's interesting. Our universities here are urging students studying there to return home.

His son's still there, he's got a Chinese girlfriend though. Apparently there's six of them sharing a 60m2 studio apartment.

He didn't see any trouble there, but said the place is double intense with all the bustle, and loads of expats out there clearly making a mint.

"Johnson repeated Britain's pledge to give British National Overseas passport-holders in Hong Kong a path to British citizenship - allowing them to settle in the United Kingdom.

There are about 350,000 holders of BNO passports in Hong Kong and another 2.5 million are eligible for them, Johnson said."
