Random Questions & Thoughts

Okay - so not for me. If only I had an ethnic background or faith that would give me an advantage.

Here they are so desperate by now that they just require employees to "identify with Christian values". Meaning they take what they can get.

(I did a project for a large Caritas once and even the vicar general considered them a cesspit. I've heard absurd stories from him)

Has anyone ever gone to a symposium or a social event (i.e. a boat cruise) that is completely dedicated to one ethnic background or origin?

Like a Jamaican day cruise or an Indonesian symposium (some ethnicities were changed in order for me to avoid being labelled a bigot and racist)...

Would people find it weird you showed up looking nothing like the rest of the attendees?

Post a few pics of yourself and I'll give you a list of ethnic backgrounds you could pass for.

Hold up. Your afraid to go to an Australian wine event because you don’t look ‘Australian’ enough??

....no, it's actually another event.

You know that Russel Coight was a piss-take character on a comedy skit show, right?

No, no, and no.

It was closest to how Aussies were portrayed in my British history textbooks up to and until the Commonwealth @ 1945.

How much do people eat for breakfast?

I am stuck on this Anglo tradition of hot eggs and meat (bacon, sausage, whatever) and porridge or toast/baguette.

That's if I am home.

Four to five cups of coffee. One small tub of plain Greek yogurt or a slice of toast with butter and a little jam.

Eggs (4 always), bacon/ sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes , avocado and sauerkraut.
Steak or other meats , kimchi and whatever fruit/Veggies I have
Tub of greek yogurt, portion of fruit (often berries),1 portion of cheese, 1 portion of nuts.
Sundays is always pancakes, bacon, maple syrup , scrambled eggs and glass of milk!

Some combination of the top three. I eat the most at breakfast or dinner. Lunch is always light.

My mantra is to hit at least 40g protein at breakfast, some ferments and some fruit or veggies without fail. I also do some form of exercise every morning without fail (If I am not travelling)

Feminist City 4.0 - redesign of urban environments and institutions to foster inclusivity and dismantle gender inequality.

Would I fit in? It feels like going to a talk/speech from Hillary where I had free access to the toilet and there were massive queues for the women's toilets.

No - I'm not posting any photographs of my genitalia to ensure I'm not trans/queer/whatever.

I had someone who used to report to me and Greek yogurt with probiotics was an obsession every morning for him at work. Then he would go like clockwork to the washroom at work for number two.

Double shot oat latte, plus banana if Im exercising in the morning

2 x strong short flat-white coffee

Okay - you guys fit in with the Italian breakfast of coffee...

My mother and media have hammered into me that breakfast is the most important meal.

In my old age heavy dinners keep me awake where I drift off into light (dream filled) sleep not dissimilar to alcohol consumption because I'm digesting.

I used to have the same dinner challenges you had. I navigated around it by a few simple things: I seldom eat out for dinner, If I could avoid it. At most once or twice a week. Often times zero.

That affords me one thing: I eat dinner really early. Like really early, Florida retiree early so I go to bed not with a heavy stomach.

Of course, with holidays and the like that is not possible. Last summer, I spent close to a month in Italy and it was impossible to eat a decent dinner before 9.30 pm! so I adjusted and just skipped breakfast.

Espressos after dinner don't help.

Sustainable and cruelty free leather made out of bananas.

Getting asked every week if I have a job for them for the past month.

Having ex staff worried about me. Ex staff trying to use company resources to get me a new mobile phone (declined 3x already...)

Yes. You will soon enough so why not enjoy it

I did only smoke two cigarettes since last Friday. But that was owing to some dodgy lighter fluid I bought.

Usually by the fourth day I get addicted to sleeping and working out. Eat, sleep, train isn't exactly a recipe for a great social life though.

When you sit down to dine with a female companion as a cisgender male - is ordering appetizers/starters on behalf of the female companion frowned upon?

Considerations: First date/first encounter. Someone you've gone out with before. Your spouse.

Under 6 years old, you can order for them. Older than that and they will have an opinion on what they want to eat.

I went to a lecture today where the author wrote about a hypothetical scenario that he thought very likely will happen.

Trump wins. MAGA Republicans take over and continue their policy of isolationism. The US withdraws from NATO. A treaty is signed with Russia. US troops depart Western Europe and the protection of Europe is left between the EU and Russia. The US then abandons its Pacific allies (Japan, South Korea, Taiwan) in Asia. Americans "return" home. Unilateral American action is still taken but solely in the interests of themselves and never in defence of its neighbours or forsaken allies.

What would Canada then do? The only remaining North American neighbour, Mexico, isn't a country that shares much in common in terms of foreign policy goals. There isn't another power in the region to support. It's too small a nation to have its own geopolitical ambition. Traditionally it's not something they have had a strong suit. How do they become an Israel and safeguard their own autonomy, or in the extreme case their sovereignty...

According to Attachment Theory, people who have not developed a healthy, secure attachment pattern during infancy and childhood are likely to run into similar difficulties later in life.

Say for example, someone was very insecure as an infant or as a child because he or she was not properly taken care of by the parent and had to be worried about being abandoned or neglected. This person grows up and this person is likely to be more sensitive to any signs of abandonment or rejection and it is more likely for this person to be jealous, possessive, and controlling.

I knew it. It's not my fault I am like this. It's not mine at all. Other people did this to me.

Is this an app that finds you the correct salsa?

I gave up finding fresh ones. I am trying to look for ones in tins but all I can find are seeds and an Italian store that has them that takes an hour on street car to get to. I was looking for them on and off since last winter so technically I could have grown some myself by now.

My brother's kids are going to their final day of Montessori here in the city. They slept in their new home last night.

My landlord sold the place I was renting 6 years ago and I made the conscious decision to move to another tower in the same complex just so I was within a block of my brother and his then newly wed wife. A year after that I ended up working 100km+ away and only returning home Friday evening-Monday morning. My parents downsized and moved into the same area. Then my brother had a kid.

I made it a point to host a Sunday family dinner (it was more like a very late lunch due to babies needing to go to bed early). I served either buffet or family style and it was fun choosing different cuisines and seeing what people's reactions were. It was also neat to randomly run into them buying groceries, walking through a park, going by a coffee shop or passing through the rail station. I guess it was freakishly European within my little 2 or 3 block radius world.

Is it possible for you and your spouse to have diametrically opposed political beliefs? Does this mean the relationship is stronger?

Like Kellyanne Conway and George Conway? They got 22 years but then again, look at these two...

There's some bloke I used to work with on a project who is Israeli by way of London. I am literally getting spammed on my LinkedIn with all the war articles he is liking, commenting or posting.

My friend's daughter is 14 now. Is it out of fashion to write her a Christmas card?

She did show me she kept all of the ones I wrote her before and she actually created and illustrated her own card to me last year.

Yes.

It appears I keep quoting scenes from The Godfather too much.

Former staff members who aren't surviving in the new (post-me) regime coming to me to look for help with a new job....

My father's health problems and the infamous tomato garden scene...

Useless family members where you love them, but they're useless...
