This is one of those things that can be obvious or can be subtle. The basic staring point is dark colors and heavy fabrics for the colder months, and lighter colors and fabrics for the warm seasons.

If only it were that easy.

I'll just start with a list of things on which I'm iffy.
How long into autumn can I pull off a fresco navy blazer?
I have a few shoes in Allen Edmonds chili color, a reddish light/medium brown. Are they totally wrong in winter?
I just bought an ancient madder tie, typical dark reds and greens. Fall and winter only, right?
Similarly, autumnal colored (tan, burgundy, hunter) check on an odd coat of medium weight...at what temperature or length of day does this become wrong?
Corduroy pants can be had in crazy pastel colors. For when are those meant?
Those ribbon belts, are they wrong in winter?

And it only gets nuttier when the actual weather is completely unseasonal...

Doesn't it depend which part of the world you're from?

If in the northeast, you can stretch the cooler items. I just put away the flannel suits last month after what I (hope) was the last flurry that fell one depressing Easter day. It's not really going to go below 15c for awhile so the tweed jackets all go into storage. Usually the final "indian summer" causes me to stow the linen jackets.

I've seen people wear wool ties in the heat. I've also seen people wear khaki suits when it's at the freezing mark. You stick out.

Coastal northern California has only one season with the recent addition of drought heatwaves. But as I posted elsewhere heat regulation can be tricky with microclimates and the need for layers, I really want to get some lighter to medium weight casual three piece suits.

Okay, just to limit the quibbling over what defines a season, I'll say that fall/winter means it is below room temperature outside and it's dark before primetime programming begins.
So can anyone answer my personal queries in the first post? As well as the ancient madder one, I'm suspecting that this brown with orange tie is no good till fall.

Wear fresco until it's too cold not to. If it's a suit, your legs will get cold. If it's a jacket, throw on an overcoat.

Depends on the light where you are during the winter. Probably ok until late fall. The bugger issue is that pants your wear them with. Do you have winter pants that fit?

Ancient madder is best F/W

I wouldnt confine that brown w/ orange to F/W. Seems like it might be bright enough to be year round

What is the fabric on your medium weight jacket? I'd say mid-spring, where spring is still closer to winter than to summer.

Cord trousers in crazy colors is asinine. Like tweeds in pastels.

But build around your core elements (jackets and pants). If you can wear them comfortably, wear it. And wear the pieces that go with it.

Within reason.
