For me, the 109 last is perfect and the two pairs I have in this consist of such supple leather that is so well put together that they still look flawless after a few years of being worn once or twice a month.

Surely there would be a market for shoes like that, they just need to have the right type of people find that market. Like with Fosters and Grenson, Alfred Sargent have no name recognition.

From what I understand, the online firm that bought Alfred Sargent was Herring , who do a lot of business. Sargent were the makers of their 'Royal' line, and if they have bought the company, then we can assume that the intention is or was to continue and perhaps to produce other Sargent shoes under their name.

I know that Covid disrupted shoe factory production ,so that's maybe the reason that Herring have yet to start producing the type of Sargent shoes that folk such as us like.

But another reason might be that Herring have also moved into trainers, including Goodyear Welted trainers, and I suspect that these can be produced cheaper overseas than in Northampton.

Fosters venture into RTW didn't last 12 months did it? Tough market to break into I should think at that price range. I think quite a bit of high end clothing and shoes are sold to well paid blokes in offices who are prob brand whoring. I've had chats with people in retail and tailors that would suggest so. Not everyone is a Big Daddy clothes geek. Whores that buy EG, Lobb, Crispins, C&J ect may not have heard of Fosters. We have two quality shoe stores here in Oslo and I know the rep for Fosters saw them both. One went with them and you can still buy them now.

A very rare glimpse at the Church's `new yorker'. As a kid who was into wholecuts, this was my dream shoe to aspire to. Was last made in the pre Prada days. Never had the chance to buy it, but always wanted it. Rare as hen's teeth. Church's made great shoes in those days. If a man wore Church's in Australia it was a major deal....it was for men who had made it big. Loved how they used to stitch the welts. Still have a soft spot for Church's, l still regret not buying more pre Prada models when l had the chance, they had so many stunning models not in the catalogues, and numerous ones with doubles soles and big welts. The stuff they used to make would put Trickers to shame...Church's was the company, solid as old tanks....you don't see that type of stuff anymore. Still kickin' myself for not buying about 30 of those models.

I almost bought this the other day off a reseller.

Silvano Lattanzi crocodile hand shoe with 100% hand stitched uppers.

It was going to be costly, but I negotiated a good price. Would have had to apply for a special permit or licence to get it through customs.

See the hand stitched uppers? A masterpiece.

Reluctantly had to be sensible and pull out of the deal. Why? The width probably would have been a hair too narrow. Was almost perfect in size, but maybe 2mm too narrow. Had to be disciplined and turn it down eventually. Was hard to turn it down....my eyes were bigger than dinner plates for days with hardly any sleep (excited about owning it), but l had to get rational and make sensible decisions. No good having a shoo that almost fits.

Have wanted one of these for years. My ultimate dream shoo. Almost tempted to buy it and keep it as a trophy shoo.

A mate used to own a pair years ago. That started my dream to own one too. Have wanted one for about 10 years. Look.

I’m with you don’t get me wrong. I’m just talking about the visual aspect. When I hear “croc shoes” I picture something like those in my mind. Probably due to where I live and all.

There is definitely a mismatch between a croc skin and the way a croc slithers and slides and the beefeater bully clumpy shoes that Shooey was lucky to miss.

Yes,plagiarism is everywhere . I bet fat Shirley Crabtree spent some time in Oz at one time abusing sheep and heard Shooey talking about Big Daddies and then sneakily nicked the name for himself. Such cheek!

I have never given blue a go. I did have some grey loafers in the early 80s but other than that it's been black and various shades of brown and burgundy.

One problem that I have with blue is that sometimes black shoes become blueish over time especially when using cheap polish.
