The Formula 1 Thread

For Time's end of the year edition they have a short segment on the fastest man on four wheels (or something like that) and the man is...Lewis Hamilton. Rosberg not getting any respect even when he won the driver's championship.

Formula 1 takeover by Liberty Media: Can F1 be liberated from its 'dysfunction'?

"The revenue system is skewed in favour of the already rich and powerful, to the extent that the smallest teams are struggling to survive and money is tight for about half the grid

There is a lack of competition on track

Television audience figures are dropping in many markets - although this is largely because of a switch to pay television, to make more money from TV rights deals

The longest-standing races are struggling to fund themselves and risk dropping off the calendar

The decision-making process is not working properly

Some significant business and sporting decisions have been made for solely financial reasons, disregarding other important factors, such as their effects on the sporting side

An acceptance that F1 has lost some of its appeal, particularly a sense of edge and drama and as an extreme driver challenge"

The lack of edge, drama and competition has something to do with it as it gets to be quite boring now. How to resolve, make it more dangerous? No chance of that. Will it go the way of boxing?

I'm pretty sure Massa and Kubica think it's pretty dangerous.

hamilton is not white/caucasian. he is a kaffer. so what are you talking about? vettel is white, but not a f1 driver. he is a whimp. do you remember the last guy in f1. give me your perspective, please.

born in a country who brought two of the most impressive drivers in history, I'll just play along. thank you for reminding me. cheers

And I thought him defending Max Mosley would be the death of him. At least there is the promise we don't have to watch races in the middle of nowhere.

Max Mosley is too shadowy and sinister to pin down. He's so evil he doesn't have a physical presence, it's all ectoplasm and tricks with mesmerism and chemicals, at least that's the only explanation I can find of how he continues to get away with Nazi themed dominatrix parties dressed as a Weimar era Berlin cabaret chanteuse. Allegedly I might add.

'...The idea of spending money now to earn more later has largely been anathema to Ecclestone...'

Symptomatic of too many British businessmen sadly.

Another F1 team folds...

"Manor were one of three new teams to enter F1 in 2010 after they were promised by then FIA president Max Mosley that a £40m budget cap would be introduced. But Mosley stood down as head of the governing body in 2009 after losing a fight with the teams over the plan and the cost limit was abandoned. All three teams have now collapsed."

Oops...

Sport overload this weekend. F1 starts, MotoGP starts, horse racing, Supercross, etc...

The fucking Race was on last weekend here in Melb. I could hear the bloody noise from my place 12 ks away. Stupid idiots.

You could have been like people in Monaco and set up a party and charge people.

I've never been to an F1 race and would still want to go to one. I reckon it is like living next to a cruise port or Disney - you never take advantage of it if you could always go.

Its about as interesting as watching rich manboys racing their brooom brooom noisey cars around in circles.

They are wildly fun.

Do people actually still watch this? I mean where is the fun nowadays on F1 when its all electronics and the pilots are average at best. Nothing like the good old days with the beast 1400hp turbo engines in the 80s, i wasnt alive then, but was far better than what it is nowadays. All up to the early 00 was a good sport, just like rally. Nowadays its just a sport without passion.

Having driven on quite a few roads in the UK, I can guarantee you that race is not likely to happen as there are few roads where a F1 car could drive. It's like playing tennis on a meadow.

I thought I clicked on the F1 thread but now I'm confused.

I was more surprised Bottas and Raikkonen were that much further down.

Bottas loses after making pole.

Also, isn't this for a race in Egypt or does Vettel think Egyptians and Bahrainis are all the same?
