The Forthcoming War With Iran

“'The Iranian regime now holds the largest and most capable unmanned aerial vehicle force in the region,' he said.

U.S. forces entered Syria in 2015, backing allied forces in their fight against the Islamic State group. The U.S. still maintains the base near Hasakah in northeast Syria where Thursday’s drone strike happened.

There are roughly 900 U.S. troops, and even more contractors, in Syria, including in the north and farther south and east.'"

Isn't that more than the residual training forces that were left in Iraq?

No Israeli jet flying over like Lebanon.

And it was a two bomb setup - one to start a stampede and one for shrapnel

"Iran seized a tanker with Iraqi crude destined for Turkey on Thursday in what appeared to be a retaliation for the seizure last year of the same vessel by Tehran’s arch foe the United States, Iranian media reported."

The Marshall Islands-flagged tanker St Nikolas....'The Navy of Iran’s Army has announced the seizure of an American oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman with a judicial order,' Iranian state media cited a statement by the Army as saying on Thursday."

Iraqi oil? Turkish buyer? Surely there was another ship that was a little more Western to seize.

"Pakistan's army said the 'precision strikes' were conducted with drones, rockets and long-range missiles and targeted the Balochistan Liberation Army and the Balochistan Liberation Front."

"Iran insisted its strikes were aimed only at Jaish al-Adl, or 'army of justice', an ethnic Baloch Sunni Muslim militant group"

Poor Baloch people...

Israel's Iron Dome anti-missile system intercepts rockets, as seen from Ashkelon, Israel, Oc. 1, 2024. “A short time ago, missiles were launched from Iran towards the State of Israel. You are asked to remain vigilant and follow the Home Front Command’s instructions precisely,”

....was this completely telegraphed to everyone like last time?

"Austin was frustrated and angry that Israel did not inform the U.S. that it intended to target Nasrallah, according to multiple U.S. officials. In recent months, Gallant and Austin have spoken multiple times every week, but Gallant informed Austin of the operation against Nasrallah as it was underway."

Austin: Why didn't you tell me so I can tell Biden!?

Gallant: No need to tell him, we're just going to do our own thing.

"Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has given a measured response to Israeli strikes on the country, saying the attack should not be 'exaggerated or downplayed' while refraining from pledging immediate retaliation.

President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran would 'give an appropriate response' to the attack, which killed at least four soldiers, adding that Tehran did not seek war."

The non-response.

From the world's self appointed referee: "Iran must make a deal, before there is nothing left, and save what was once known as the Iranian Empire. No more death, no more destruction, JUST DO IT, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE."

..wait, where did I hear that before.

"The only thing that makes sense is for Canada to become our cherished Fifty First State. This would make all Tariffs, and everything else, totally disappear. Canadians’ taxes will be very substantially reduced, they will be more secure, militarily and otherwise, than ever before, there would no longer be a Northern Border problem, and the greatest and most powerful nation in the World will be bigger, better and stronger than ever — And Canada will be a big part of that."

I had a friend's family member going back to Iran. I guess that's off.

It sounds like Israel orchestrated a Zoom call amongst Iran’s military and nuclear leaders in order to target them in their homes, offices and bunkers.

Last time they hit Iranian and Hamas targets in Tehran it was so specific it was targeted to which floor of a building. The amount of infiltration by Israel into Iran you have to be worried as the regime that there are so many malcontent dissidents within your own ranks and country. If they suddenly lose grip on power it'll fall like a deck of cards like Afghanistan or Syria.

It’s going to go higher. Israel hasn’t attacked Iranian oil infrastructure yet and Iran hasn’t threaten close the Straight of Hormuz yet.

NBC, which I know no one in the States watches, cut away to live broadcast of Tel Aviv and the reporters then basically said - 100 missiles? It doesn't feel like it. It's pretty calm now. There weren't hundreds like the Iranians claimed. Maybe that's all they got or everything was damaged from the first strike. I am not sure goading the other side is the smart thing to do.

"'Tehran isn't safe, clearly,' one resident said. 'We get no alarms or warnings from officials about Israeli attacks. We just hear the blasts and hope our place isn't hit. But where can we go? Nowhere feels safe.'"

Those Russian air defence radars must be faulty.

Looks like the US is planning to join the bombing party soon.

Good time to do it now if the Israelis say they already have air superiority.

"Ever since Trump urged people to leave last night, it seems like many more are fleeing."

If Donald Trump says jump three feet high and scratch your head, we all jump three feet high and scratch our heads and that's it

"We know exactly where the so-called 'Supreme Leader' is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there - We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now. But we don’t want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers. Our patience is wearing thin. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

What happened to presidents not inciting regime change and assassination of other heads of states? Also - when did Bibi and his guys become part of "we"?

Russian President Vladimir Putin offered today to help mediate an end to the conflict between Israel and Iran, suggesting Moscow could help negotiate a settlement that could allow Tehran to pursue a peaceful atomic program while assuaging Israeli security concerns.

Speaking at a roundtable session with senior news leaders of international news agencies, Putin said he had shared Moscow’s proposals with Iran, Israel and the United States.

“We are not imposing anything on anyone, we are simply talking about how we see a possible way out of the situation. But the decision, of course, is up to the political leadership of all these countries, primarily Iran and Israel,”

Vladimir Putin the peacemaker!

“‘does anyone think that what was done in 2003 in Iraq was a good idea?’ French President Emmanuel Macron asked this week. ‘Does anyone think that what was done in Libya last decade was a good idea? No.’ So, too, with Iran, he warned. ‘The biggest mistake today is to try to change the regime in Iran through military means, because that will lead to chaos,’ he said.”

The Yanks seem to think otherwise.

Trump is relying on a small circle as he weighs strikes on Iran

As he decides whether to directly involve the United States in a war with Iran, Trump has expanded his circle in some ways while shrinking it in others.

He has sidelined National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard, who opposes U.S. strikes in Iran, and he has not been routinely turning to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth as part of his decision-making process, according to the two defense officials and the senior administration official.

You don’t talk to your Secretary of Defence on matters about war? When *do* you talk to him?

Breaking bread in peace…

Was there not a bigger table so the guy can take some notes?

"NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!"

Uhh. Not if you said let’s give it two weeks and the day after you drop bombs.
