THE Necktie Thread, Now With Handkerchiefs and Scarves

I love wide neckties. Here a way to make appear a tie wider: why don't you just use a broader one?

Arrived yesterday, after a waiting time of twenty days, thanks to the Brexit and customs issues and delays (remarkably it's not always that bad and other shipments were so much faster).

Scarves in light cashmere by Begg&Co, ideal for giving you some cosiness in this windy and rainy transitional weather we're having in Berlin.

This tie was passed down to me years ago. I can’t imagine it looking good but don’t have the heart to get rid of it.

What’s interesting about the tie is that it looks green and blue, but the yellow threads shine through both vertically and horizontally when you look at it from a slightly different angle. So every spot of the tie keeps changing colour when you’re moving around. It can almost look like some video game item protected by a force field.

I’ve never worn this but I play with it a little whenever I see it.

A few years back VW made some really great spread collar polo shirts with a higher neck band. They were really cool and then ruined them with that logo.

I actually like their Hawaiian shirts for being playful but not too loud. Very good for Thailand. But now I've realised the cut isn't very flattering for me so I've moved on.

Still holding the line as tie point man here, but it feels like were an endangered species. Got in the lift today and some young whipper-snapper-hipster working for one of the consultants pulled a face when he saw the tie. I probably should have head butted him right on the nose.

should have done that with or without tie.

Are you in Europe or the States?

I should be able to join you in the tie-wearing fight soon.

Silk may be my least favorite material for ties outside of cotton. Linen and wool are much better. Nothing, however, tops a good silk blend, either with wool or linen. This is 60-40 wool silk. It has the heft and depth of wool with the knotting ability of silk.

Stunning combination. Much obliged for the necktie material insight!

I need to cruise through some thrift/op shops. I think a lot of people dumped ties and cuff links in the last few years and the resale value dropped to nothing.

Mind you, I’m also probably never going to have occasion to wear many ties.

It reminds me that l need to buy a tie. I rarely wear a tie unfortunately (would like to), so when a tie is worn l like to make it an occasion,ie, to make sure l wear the best quality tie that doesn't skimp on materials and is constructed properly with quality interlinings. I have paid big $$$ for numerous ties not up to scratch, so now l go bespoke because quality really does show and quality makes me feel good. Ties can't be skimped on. Shopping retail for ties is too risky, you never know what ties are made from these days.

Will order this soon from Sam Hober. I do have an identical one from Hugo Boss in a nice plush silk, but it dimples and ties awful. I shall replace it with an elite version.

When l wear the tie the shirt collar, the tie and the coat need to look perfect and like art, so l bespeak the top makers to do it all right so l achieve the top look. It is worth it because l achieve a look that becomes like a perfect uniform that l can wear over and over again. Do it right the first time so dressing well becomes effortless.

One thing l want to start doing is incorporating more neckties into my daily styling without looking too formal. Plan to wear traditional 2 ply grandpa cardigans with tattersall shirts and probably grenadine ties in earthly colours with tweed trousers and tweed caps. Not afraid to dress in the traditional clothes of the over 50s set, l would feel quite comfortable doing it. It is not too dressy, instead, it creates a good wholesome down to earth image. Gotta get the shirts made, gotta get the ties made; it will happen by next year.

That orange tie is wild. When do plan on wearing that one?
I usually am a bit more conservative with ties. I was eager to see if I could make it work. Shirt is from Golia and the suit is MTM from my enormous lapel era. Past me had weird ideas but I stand by it.
Good thread. Looking forward to seeing some ties. It would be great if posters could show them against the shirt.
Here it is:

Oh it looks way less bold in that lighting. I think it would look better against a plain shirt though. The tie is busy enough, the stripes add another unneeded dynamic to the mix.

I liked the soft blue lines behind it but I'll definitely give it a spin with a white shirt.

And yeah under the right light it's more burnt and less bright orange. I really like it.

Thought this was an interesting trick for the newbies.

I think maybe a lot of the people who appear on T.V. in a tie which they probably, according to their appearance, have hardly if ever worn before would be glad if they could watch that video and learn that trick.

A lot of younger people browse the forum and don’t have a male influence at home. Don’t be so quick to dismiss these simple tricks.

Thought this was an interesting trick for the newbies.

When I was at a charity dressing people with free clothes etc - I got shown lot of different ways to do ties-mainly from younger blokes who were from India, Pakistan or Asian or African countries who had grown up with British colonisation and wearing ties to school. Many never did the tie up on the neck.

The most common was using the knee or using the elbow.

Most could do it as quick as flash. But I could never grasp it.

Most told me its what they did everyday for school.
