The Next Election, Political News, and Other Forms of Comedy (US, UK, & Intl)

Watching the self-identified ‘American veteran community’ grapple with Trump’s smearing of Mattis is amusing. Unlike McChrystal, Mattis still holds godlike (or Chuck Norris-like) status in this subsection of veterans. Right now, the refrain is ‘Trumo just lost my vote’. I’m not sure if this will last into the next election cycle, though if Mattis spoke out against Trump or endorsed anyone else I think it would.

These sniveling hogs will vote for him again, just like theyve voted for every republican who has fucked them over in the past

New Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib uses expletive while calling for Trump impeachment

"Hours after being sworn in, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., told a cheering crowd of supporters on Thursday that the Democrats 'are gonna impeach the motherf---er' in a video posted online.

Tlaib, a Detroit native who is one of the first two Muslim women and the first Palestinian-American woman elected to Congress, is seen recalling her son's response to her election."

You would think as the first Muslim woman and first Palestinian elected into Congress you would demonstrate a modicum of humility. After all you didn't win a reality television contest, you were chosen by your constituents to perform public service.

So public servants cant curse?

Shucks that ain't nuthin', the MP's in the UK like to pretend to snort coke and I noticed her chopping was that of a professional coke fiend:

I like AOC.
But why are republicans giving her some much free publicity?

Because she's economically illiterate and has a big mouth, but it is the MSM who have made her their darling.

As AOC her self states: Why do you fear a socialist economy?

Very apt.

Yes, indeed, as a Venezuela MKII or III - depending on whether the UK embraces the Commie madness or not - should give everyone the shivers.

Interestingly, the Chinese cannot believe their luck. They look on us with bewildering disappointment. They get it!

Because theyre afraid of her
Eh, somewhat. I think she just represents so many things they hate. Youth, color, media savvy etc...

I don't think she is the brightest bulb in the box, but I don't have any particular animus to her.

I do always find it amusing when middling class conservatives like Pimpernel get all animated about the top marginal tax rate like it has any effect on them personally.

Two ways to pay for wars and build infrastructure that is essential to progress: tax or debt. True 500 years ago, true today.

It doesn't effect me at all, as I pay tax in Europe.

She's not media savvy, she ticks all the boxes that fit the corporatist plan and paradigm. They know she's as thick as pig shit as I do. And I hope you do.

BS. Lots of great infrastructure has been paid by private investment.
public infrastructure should be owned by the people, not by a select few. the whole idea that individuals and companies own parts of the cities we live and work in is fucking ridiculous.

Well, by law it is still publicly owned in general. You can't build a private interstate.

The real issue is cost. Publicly funded work is much, much more cost effective than public/private, and private just isn't even feasible. The private part needs to make a profit, and that's just added right onto what it would cost as 100% public funding.

I was of course referring to the great Victorian privately sponsored infrastructure projects.

The corporatism, as I was involved with in the UK in the late 90s when it was all kicking off with the left wing Labour government, the Corporatism of Carillion and Interserve (and also the Milk Board) is pretty bad and toxic over decades.

I agree that elements of infrastructure and public services should be controlled by public owned non-profit entities, but the Left is bent, ideologically unsound and unfit to govern. They've fucked up beyond respect. Even Yanis Varoukakis agrees with this position: the Left have utterly failed.

Well yanis doesnt think the left is unfit to run things. He thinks theyre too in the weeds to fight the right. Thats why he's working on his own thing.

She doesnt go far enough

She'd have better chances to fund her trillion $ welfare program if she could make everyone pay the tax rates that already exist...
Close all the loop holes in the tax laws and the tax havens and make US corporations (and their high end management) pay their due taxes in the US.
ATM companies like Google, Amazon and Starbucks pay very little taxes because they got a special deal from Ireland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Apparently Starbucks gets a 500.000 € tax refund from the German IRS because of the way the business operates.

"For anyone who has spent the past few weeks fixating on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s clothes, dance moves, childhood nickname or living situation, I hope they watched her response to President Donald Trump’s Oval Office address on Tuesday night.

Of all the voices we heard from, the freshman congresswoman's was by far the most compelling and effective. It was also the only one that had both passion and humanity — backed up by facts."

"Former Sen. Claire McCaskill was recently quoted as saying Ocasio-Cortez was nothing more than 'a bright shiny new object,' which 'came out of nowhere and surprised people when she beat a very good congressman.'

McCaskill doesn’t get it. In fact, I’m sure a great many of her remaining colleagues in Congress feel the same way she does. These are probably many of the same folks who, to this day, don’t understand how or why Trump won in 2016."

Looks like AOC and Tlaib have been parked by the Dems. And AOC has just been fined for failing to provide workers compensation insurance during her campaign. As often with the hard left, it's a case of do as I say, not as I do!
