i'm sorry, what? he's literally admitted to being a war criminal. how on earth could you possibly come to that conclusion? She was grandstanding there with the USA supporting genocide trope and saying I will take that as a ''Yes'' in relation to the massacre question when he clearly stated ''No''.

So he oversaw the brutal massacre of hundreds of people and your issue here is one of semantics? No he never, he stated in context that El Salvador being a democracy for the past decades, he was explicitly referring to El Salvador's democratic credentials only. On being asked did he support the massacre/genocide he said ''No'' and she said ''I will take that as a yes!''
So he oversaw the brutal massacre of hundreds of people and your issue here is one of semantics?
YES he was literally convicted!!!You have evidence that he oversaw the brutal massacre and genocide? She's grandstanding because it pays with her base to associate jews with genocide. That's the game at play. We know he was up to the neck in Contra scandal, but there is not a shred of evidence that he supported genocide. She asks leading questions: ''Would you support an armed faction within Venezuela that engages in war crimes, crimes against humanity, or genocide, if you believe they were serving U.S. interests, as you did in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua?” She takes it as given that the USA and he personally has supported genocide in those countries. America as the Great Satan. Jew as perpetrator of genocide through puppets.
She also cut him off before he had a chance to answer: ''“I fail to understand why members of this committee or the American people should find any testimony that you give today to be truthful.......That was not a question!”
It was grandstanding.
YES he was literally convicted!!!
You cant possibly be serious with this?Of a misdeanour!
Meanwhile, out in Occasional Cortex land, another victory against the evil corporate greed of Amazon who were just about to bring their HQ to Queens:

I really meant with the elliot abrams horseshit you were going on with. No, I was joking.....it's always a pleasure to turn down real jobs and investment from the capitalist filth for the 3bn that was waiting to be invested in more worthy infrastructure schemes....oh wait...….!
I really meant with the elliot abrams horseshit you were going on with.
Regardless the Amazon scam being over in NY is a great thing. Here's to hoping doghouse gets them the fuck out of virginia
I meant in the general sense, you being our representative from the great state of blackface.I dont think I have the requisite pull for that my friend

I’ve known a few people in the arms trade who described the KSA military purchasers as easily impressed children. They willing buy anything new and shiny- with no thought to integration, logistics and supply chains. The result is one of the most over priced and under equipped armies in the world.
Given their skewed class structure, I imagine they are all officers with no grunts.
these shitlibs are the fucking worst
look at how dismissive she is of this kid
Probably not, but she’s up there. At the same time, I’m glad her she’s there. Just as the GOP has the Tea Party, the Left should get their own pain in the ass. I also think the less monolithic our political parties are, the better. Encourages more dialogue and forces new issues into light. Or it would if the institution of Congress wasn’t crumbling (for which all share the blame, but I particularly blame 2010 Mitch)AOC, the dumbest person to be elected to Congress.

Obviously "dumb" is a hyperbole. She obviously is not mentally challenged. In a way she is very cunning at manipulation
really? you think she's a master manipulator like, say for instance, our current president? if so, then watch out.Obviously "dumb" is a hyperbole. She obviously is not mentally challenged. In a way she is very cunning at manipulation
well he did say "can you please give a yes or no answer?"She should have started with what she ended with (upon prompting): she’s not for free four year college for all.
so the real question here is, how can we make you happy with this proposal? So sometimes I see people complaining about their debt or asking for loan foregiviness and think “Honey, you signed up for this. I managed to pay mine off, you should to.” At the same time, what I had to do is probably unreasonable, and expecting millions of 20 somethings to do the same is therefore also unreasonable.
so the real question here is, how can we make you happy with this proposal?
I think we all have that impulse: I did it, so you should, too.Make Gen Z people suffer as he did
I love that the guy tried to keep her from ducking the question, which is what a politician will do when asked a direct question. She still tried to duck, but she was eventually forced to give a straight answer.well he did say "can you please give a yes or no answer?"
and whats with the praying hand pointing thing she does?

It isn’t a good impulse for a lot of reasons.
But she didnt actually propose anything but bullshit. There were no substantive fixes to the system.I think we all have that impulse: I did it, so you should, too.

As far as what to do about debt? I don’t know. I’m definitely against large scale forgiveness. Consenting adults signed a legally binding contract, one which the other party upheld. At the same time, the entire institutional system is clearly broken, and these people are the primary victims of it, so something must be done.
I am glad that politicians are highlighting this issue because it needs to be discussed and addressed.
I don't believe future generations should mirror all the obstacles and problems that my generation did
But she didnt actually propose anything but bullshit. There were no substantive fixes to the system.
The kids are all saying "what do we want? Free college and loan forgiveness! When do we want it? NOW!"
And she came back with "ok well i here you but how about additional pell grants and better refinancing programs on your existing loans you cant afford?"
I think we all have that impulse: I did it, so you should, too.

Wow. You should really run for office. This is just smart enough to impress some 10%'ers but not effective enough to piss off any 1%'ers. Youre the perfect democrat! No single person is going to have an answer, certainly not a politician. But if we can get people to agree it’s a problem that needs to be addressed (not quite there yet) and get people discussing it (almost there), then a more reasonable answer than “free college and loan forgiveness for all” or “free market principles are all we need” will emerge.
I’m glad she was willing to say no, even though she had to be cornered to do it. Should hopefully make for interesting primary debates.
Random ideas I like:
- free or cheaper two year colleges and trade schools. Too many people go to four year universities, and there are also too many four year universities.
It isn’t the students’ fault, but there are definitely students who are better off not going into debt to get a four year degree.
- Expand the public service loan foregiveness thing. I also support mandatory service (though not necessarily military) for both genders.
- Cut interest rates on student loans
- Freeze interest for people who took out student loans between 2000-2010 and that are paying back loans
- provide tax incentives for corporations who invest heavily in human capital and establish intensive training programs providing transferable skills (e.g., Rackspace’s Open Cloud Academy)
- probably investigate student loan regulations. Don’t know anything about them, nor do I want to
