The Next Election, Political News, and Other Forms of Comedy (US, UK, & Intl)

The Dem candidates are all too radical for the general election, I dont know who their own campaign strategists are, but this is not going to help them to win.

Sleepy Joe is not going to be able to step up his game unless he is ready to be clobbered by the likes of Harris/Booker/Warren

Tulsi laid Harris out last night..... It was so funny watching these clowns go at each other.

I think it's going to be Warren/Sanders/Harris/Biden, none of these nominees is going to beat Trump in a general election. If Dems really want to take over, the radicalism has to end.

Brecon and Radnorshire by-election: Lib Dems beat Conservatives

"The Liberal Democrats have won the Brecon and Radnorshire by-election, leaving new PM Boris Johnson with a working majority in Parliament of one.
...
It was a bad night for Labour, whose vote share dropped by 12.4% as it was beaten into fourth place by the Brexit Party. The result means the Lib Dems now have 13 MPs."

It's a revival(!!)...or people are parking their Remain votes with the Lib Dems.

The Tory candidate was pretty toxic, so it was doubtful they could win, to have lost by the margin they did was probably reassuring.

The good news is that Labour are exposed and their particular brand of corporate socialism and anti-Semitism doesn't travel too far from the metropolitan bubble and certain inner cities before the rancid smell puts one off.

'Erosion of public trust': The real reasons why Rod Blagojevich was sentenced to prison

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/po...ns-why-rod-blagojevich-was-sentenced-n1040551

“And now former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich may get his prison sentence cut short by President Donald Trump.

‘I am thinking about commuting his sentence. He’s been in jail for seven years, over a phone call where nothing happens. But over a phone — where nothing happened. Over a phone call where — which, you know, he shouldn’t have said what he said, but it was braggadocio, you would say,’ Trump told reporters on Air Force One Wednesday night.

At his trial, Blagojevich said he considered appointing himself to the Senate seat, and then going off to Afghanistan to hunt down Osama bin Laden.”

Absolutely minor and completely forgivable crimes in light of what happens today. He only wanted to appoint himself as Senator, not pardon himself of any crimes before he commits them.

Hong Kong protests: Clashes as police fire tear gas into rail station

"Hong Kong police have once again clashed with anti-government protesters as the city enters its 10th week of mass demonstrations and unrest.

Police fired tear gas across the city on Sunday night, including into an enclosed railway station.

In the Wan Chai district, petrol bombs and bricks were thrown at riot police who responded by charging at protesters with batons.

A number of people, including a police officer, were injured in the clashes.

Police were also filmed firing rubber bullets at close range inside a subway station, while other officers were seen beating people with batons on an escalator."

Like the yellow vest movement in France.

It's interesting that the UK newspapers are giving scant attention to this unfolding clampdown. Back in the 1990s I was involved with a big project in the New Territories, back then, mainland China was really full on Communist and regarded us with suspicion. We sent several representatives out there and within a couple of days all had been turned and were more representing the end user client than the company that was employing them. I was due to go out next, but they cancelled the next phases of the power station that was being built. And the last chap we sent out, that would have been 1996, advised that there were lots of people on the streets in Hong Kong shouting "Go home English!'' and making the sound of coughing up and spitting.

Not much the Brits could do at the time, but we could have taken the Chinese elite who instead went to Canada.

Hong Kong police: We don’t need Beijing’s help

"Police have also come under fire for what - at times - is seen as a heavy-handed approach, including the use of tear gas in residential areas and underground train stations.

Then there are images that seem to show riot teams firing rubber bullets and tear gas horizontally - at head-shot range - straight into crowds of activists.

Police said this should not be happening. 'Baton round' rubber bullets are to be fired at the ground and the idea is that they then ricochet into people.

The Special Tactical Contingent - a riot team known as the 'Raptors' - were filmed last weekend chasing protesters into an underground train station and, at the top of an escalator, firing non-lethal rounds at activists from point-blank range, then laying into them with batons."

Bring on the Tiananmen style tanks...

This is a very bad publicity image for Xi at a time of which he is looking at a 3rd term. Commie's tactic of western meddling is getting old as mainlanders have opportunities to witness western democracy. Those who are in power want and need to have this under wraps but it is very hard to control

If they invade it will be an epic failure and I doubt they're stupid enough to throw away the strategic and tactical gains of the last 20 odd years. It will be a massive shock to the Globalist establishment psyche in the West too, but they could just ignore it and actually dig the authoritarian crack down.

The British could have expanded their program: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Nationality_(Hong_Kong)_Selection_Scheme

I'm sure plenty of people left the Raj before it descended into that minor scuffle that happened after partition.

Anybody else notice that AOC has gone missing from the rest of The Squad?

It's almost like she's distancing herself from them....

This is why the Dems are screwed, it's all about AOC+3 and defending anti-Semitism. Labour in the UK tried the same cynical trick with saint commie tramp Corbyn and now they're tanking. Trump nails it:

"Tory MPs who vote against the government in the Commons this week will be chucked out of the party and banned from standing for the Conservatives at the next election.

Senior sources in government are confirming that plan was agreed by the prime minister and his enforcers - the party whips - in the splendour of his country pile, Chequers, on Sunday.

It's not just Westminster gossip - it is actually No 10's plan.

That's remarkable not just because Westminster is a place where rebellions are relatively commonplace, and backbenchers are permitted to express their opinion in such a way with the consequence being a rap on the knuckles, or a cold shoulder in the tea room.

It's remarkable not just because Boris Johnson's government is stuffed full of ministers, including in the cabinet, who defied the party whip under Theresa May's administration, but who stayed on."

Very common here in Canada. Nearly every vote is whipped along party lines. Voting out of free conscience and rebelling against the governing party is the exception not the rule.

"But Italy, with its string of failed governments, frenemy pacts and ever-swelling debt, has been a political anomaly as well as a harbinger. Twenty-five years ago when Silvio Berlusconi, a cruise-ship-crooner-turned-TV-tycoon, swept to power on the soccer-chant 'Forza Italia!' (Go Italy!) — the world laughed. Now, the world has Donald Trump."

Berlusconi sang on cruise ships? I always thought he came from a monied family.

"Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam has said she will withdraw the highly controversial extradition bill which triggered months of protests. The proposal, introduced in April, would have allowed criminal suspects to be extradited to mainland China."

Unfortunately the genie is out of the bottle.
