Liberal Democrat leader Jo Swinson loses her East Dunbartonshire seat to the SNP by 149 votes

For a party that was near parity with Labour during the May fiasco and started out the campaign at 20 percent it has been a disastrous campaign for the Liberal Democrats.

At the decisive moment the good people of England and Wales we're always going to cast the villians out into the political wilderness!

The myth of the tribal safe Labour seats in the North shattered!

Our Jewish friends need not live in fear of being a target by a Corbyn led government.

A great day for getting Brexit done with an overwhelming majority and the bitter policies of the Lib-Dems and the sinister commies utterly rejected.

I'm proud to be a transplanted Englishman flying the flag for the decency and common sense of British values and culture!

Well, well, well. Did they think they could behave like they have for the last 3 years and get away with it?

The reckoning has come...

They're fucking delusion.

The Jones Boy Wonder can be perceptive at times, but sold his soul.

Paul Mason's analysis? He's thicker than pig shit.

This made me chuckle:

What a hillarious case of turkeys voting for thanksgiving.

They gave the finger to the working class, they gave the finger to the jews and they gave the finger to the biggest mandate in British parliamentary history and now they're looking for someone to blame.

by 'gave the finger' are you referring to a pleasurable act or are you not using that phrase the way its meant to be used?

"Giving the finger" = making a rude gesture by sticking up your middle finger, facing outwards, in a defiant manner.

Like so:

It's basically telling someone to "get f&%(#ed" or "F&%( off!".

yes jman, i know what it means.

nice johnny cash reference though.

They lost as soon as they lost the referendum, it was just a long game playing out. The British DON'T keep voting until they get it 'right'. There was never going to be a second ref, nor was there going to be a repeal.

This large majority is good for both sides in the ensuing negotiations.

The message is: Never bet against Britain.

Scotland is no having any of that nonsense.

Scotland will do nothing. It is in the gift of the PM to grant a Scottish ref and with his majority she ain't gonna get one...

So Wee Jimmy Krankie can do one...

Corbyn is anti-English, which is more of a problem as far as I'm concerned. His opposition to Jewish nationalism is consistent with his opposition to nationalism for anyone with a light complexion.

Neither is Antifa I see, marching in London against the democratic will of the people.

They're finished, their time is passing. Game over!

Cummings has ran rings round them.

Hasn't he just!

Those middle class metropolitan types have been around for quite some time. Orwell mentions them In The Road To Wigan Pier: full of hatred and conspiracy theories towards the jews and the working classes who have let them down. So they rally around Hamas and international causes ignoring those at home.

This is a real victory in the ongoing culture war. One that even the likes of Michael Heseltine recognizes. A new establishment, a new paradigm and the end of the Woke.

Johnston needs to be radical, he's got the majority but has he got the guts. One of the first things he needs to do is sweep out the country's institutions/universities. A counter-Gramscian march if you like.

For example, its outrageous that Conservatives who work in these places are frightened to mention their political allegiances for fear of reprisals. That needs to stop.

It seems you quoted me by mistake. But in any case, it's fairly certain that the brit working class will continue to be worse off for the forseeable future.

I quoted you on purpose.

You're not fit or qualified to give judgement on the Brit working classes.

How dare you pretend you know what's best for them.

Everyone knows the uk working class lives in one of the poorhouses of the developed world. It's a well-established fact, as is that their standard of living has been decreasing over the last decades. And it's very likely to get even worse. Sorry if that hurts your feelings.

Famous last words: ''Everyone knows....It's well-established fact....'

The standard of living has significantly increased in the UK since 1980. Big time, big time.

And where are you from?

Fuck off Cuckley, you can look it up yourself. Household income, earnings growth, retirement benefits, health care, etc it hardly matters what measure you take. Next stop decreasing life expectancy.

I wouldn't say that. I've seen slums much worse in the US and continental Europe than I've seen in Britain. Have someone drive you around a Parisian Banlieue, or just take the RER line B from Charles de Gaulle to Gare de Nord. Its an eye opener. Marseilles is another one.

Those areas of France are essentially Africa. Although the same can be said of growing areas of Britain.

Parts of France are positively developing world.

That is precisely why I wrote "one of the" instead of "the". Of course there are worse parts/milieus at the margin. Doesn't say a thing about the median and is most of all not relevant when looking at the condition of the British working class itself over time.

You have to be careful when reading these types of statistics. Here:

.

There have always been large inequalities in Britain, Dickens & Engels amongst others highlighted the plight of the poor 100+ years ago. The Nazis had detailed plans of British slums to use for propaganda purposes.

It got better after the war, and then widened again during the Thatcher years. Being in the EU hasn't done much to alleviate it.

The problems are structural, endemic in the British economic/political system and you could argue being in the single market has made it worse due to the geographic proximity of London and the South East to the continent. It can be quicker to get a train from London to Paris than from London to Manchester for example.

You cannot, in my opinion redress these imbalaces whilst staying within the EU.

Not necessarily. There is no one to hold Johnson to account. So he can do what he wants. He might do what he promises - but he is not particularly trustworthy. Brexit could be parked and Conservatives could then return to business as usual, with a damaged Labour Party, a Liberal Democrat Party without a leader and a Brexit Party with no MPs.

The only positive so far is the removal of many of the particulary obstructive MPs and the speaker.

I look forward to a new Reform party of some sort to do some more swamp draining and get a system more fit for purpose.

When I say both sides, I mean those involved in the Brexit negotiations. Its easier to get things through parliment with a majority.

I agree that a strong opposition is usually a good thing for a democracy, however.

IMO Labour will be out of power for a decade at least, could be a generation.

Corbyn's and McDonnell's mission now is to secure an ideologically sound successor. They'll be out in the wilderness for at least a decade, if they'll ever be able to survive Momentum. If you noticed, McDonnell used the same smoke-screen and shield the BP chairman did afte the Texas City Refinery explosion: ''I take full responsibility.'' What does that reall mean? Nothing, it's a ruse to limit follow-up questions.

The problem the Left has is that they see the working class to be pitied and can only relate to them in a paternalistic way i.e. we'll give them freebies, or they didn't understand what they were voting for in the referendum, they don't understand how they've been duped. The arrogance and lack of interface with real people is astonishing.

Modern liberals and lefties are also curiously unread as exemplified in Corbyn himself. If you want to understand where the working class came from and how it doesn't warrant condescension or pity, they really should read E.P. Thompson's The Making of the English Working Class. This is a book by socialist historian and cuts through the Ken Loach lworld view of the current Labour Part derision of the working classes. The old English left had some intellectual rigour and knew their history. This current mob are dimwitted by comparison. The working classes are pretty sussed and are not going to follow dick heads with Pied Piper promises of a 4 day working week. The working class work and they're not looking for opportunities to sit around idle. They just don't get the mindset of a working class man with a couple of kids and a mortgage.

And so here we are: the Labour Party utterly humiliated with policies soundly rejected and Boris with a solid mandate to get Brexit over the line and to be radical and earnest on policies. The best result possible with the exception of Scotland. And even that will just show how toothless and hypocritical the SNP are.

you say a LOT of ridiculous shit on this forum, but this takes the cake. i mean, my god man.

I'll reiterate it again for thick skinned Lefties and unrepentent Marxists: the Left has zero understanding of the working classes.

Hence Labour thought they could buy them off with the promise of a 4 day week. To a working class family man, the thought of that is abject horror. He's looking to maximize earning capacity and will be looking to work more, not less.

It sounds ridiculous, I know, but what's more ridiculous than Labour being utterly defeated and shamed by Boris and JRM types? It must be humiliating to consider that my types have the power and are going to wield it for the next 10, 15, 20 years. That should be enough to send any polytechnic debating society Woke!

There's a certain degree of truth in it though, the working class are viewed as an abstraction by many Leftist intellectuals. Thompson, who's already been mentioned was annoyed about this a wrote an essay in the New Left Review called The Poverty of Theory, an attack on that journal's then obsession with continental leftists. The then editor Perry Anderson issued a rebuttal, then there was a counter rebuttal and so on.

Of course Thompson has his own issues and got a kicking off Leszek Kolakowski.

The Left do have a rather patronising view of the working class, they think they 'own' them.

I am not sure what to make of this. In any case I'd bet one or two of the cheap watches Cuckley likes so much on seeing decreasing UK life expectancy within the next 5-10 years.
