The Next Election, Political News, and Other Forms of Comedy (US, UK, & Intl)

Its commonly believed that because the Nazi's has 'Socialist' in its name, that it was a Socialist party. It wasn't. There are, however many commonalities between the Far Left, and Far Right. I wouldn't go as far as subscribing to the horseshoe theory though.
You mean mass surveillance, massive propaganda (very similar in style, although that could have been a 30s/ 40s thing) and suppressing the opposition (the first ones to go into KZs were from the political opposition)? Not to forget benefits for party members.
Back in the days (after the Weimar republic collapsed) of the rivalry between the communists/ socialists and the NSDAP, there were clashes between their fighting "forces", with the SA a bit more organised (uniforms) and some people say that a lot of the communists just swapped sides and joined the SA.
Which, strangely, happened again after the Third Reich collapsed and some NSDAP supporters (especially in the industrial sector) were all of a sudden squeaky clean democrats and the GESTAPO became the BND and Verfassungsschutz, with the kind support of the CIA.
This also happened after the German reunification when the ex SED members, STASI officers and their informants, quickly "integrated" into the Western political system.
And now Germany turns into a totalitarian, oppressive state (again), while wearing the mask of a democracy. And with Antifa the SA is back in a different appearance (brown became black) but with the same purpose, to beat down the opposition without having to fear prosecution.

Isn't that like The Who song - meet the new boss same as the old boss?

Hosni Mubarak is deposed but hey let's get El Sisi up there.

I think the most blatant opportunism / change of colours were the yanks rebranding Wernher von Braun.

Similar methods, different ideologies. Stalin admired Hitler's methods and vice-versa.

"Bloomberg had not qualified for earlier debates because he was not accepting campaign donations.

'To now change the rules in the middle of the game to accommodate Mike Bloomberg, who is trying to buy his way into the Democratic nomination, is wrong,' Jeff Weaver, one of Sanders' top advisers, said then. 'That's the definition of a rigged system.'"

You can dodge debates by not accepting campaign contributions and then accept when you're ahead in the polls and get into the debate spotlight. Is that a loophole?

"'He didn't have to do this. He's a Republican president; I was a Democratic governor,' Blagojevich said. Trump's 'got obviously a big fan in me.'

'And if you're asking me what my party affiliation is, I'm a Trump-ocrat,'"

Tonight's Dem debate is a circular firing squad. Why is it immoral for Bloomberg to be a billionaire, but it is fine that Bernie's a millionaire?

Buttegeig threw in the towel.

But Warren thinks she can still win.

What happened to him after the Iowa win? His momentum seems to have gone on a downward spiral.

Do you think it might have something to do with him being married to a man? Was a big issue amongst religious leaders in SC.

America is not ready for him.

No, I didn't think the US would consider a gay man for President if they couldn't elect a woman.

The pattern was peculiar. He won Iowa - which last I checked wasn't a hotbed for homosexuality. Then he did okay in New Hampshire and literally disappeared by South Carolina.

It'll be an interesting case study to see how Iowa was a fluke.

Interested to see how Biden fares. There must be a reason why his results were dismal in Iowa and New Hampshire if he is the moderate and centrist candidate of the Democratic establishment.

Other than Tulsi Gabbard they are all in their 70s. It'll be interesting if it is the black vote that Biden is relying on to win. Some of those states don't have significant black populations. If one candidate relies on blacks and the other on under 29 and Latinos I reckon there isn't much of a committed coalition on election day.

Tulsi doesn't fit in with the Democrats. She'd be better finding a party or a person (hint hint) who would appreciate her, even if I didn't share all of her political views. She's really a cut above that herd of utter repulsiveness.

The coalition is suburbanites and African Americans. It's a pretty powerful one since both groups are supercharged to vote this year. Virginia smashed it's turnout record of 2008 by half a million votes.

Hillary complained of the same but Tulsi Gabbard is still in the race isn't she?

Meanwhile, back in good old Germany, the hardcore lefties want to shoot the top 1% or at least put them in a work camp.
Said so during a public press conference by top party leaders. No outcry in the media.
