she said her favorite politician was margaret thatcher. i think she's just trolling people at this point.

She qualified it by this ''...she's left a very dark mark in history.'' Hardly a ringing endorsement of the Iron Lady who brought down the Soviet Empire and saved the Falkland's Islanders from a fascist Nazi inspired junta.

It doesn't matter if you live there or not.

I don't see why you can't just be honest with yourself and with us, and admit that you're a massive hypocrite.

We're all hypocrites in our way, the secret is not to get lost in a lying, timid, liberal middle class morality about it. Pontificating on how the masses have let us down in the lockdowns with their consumer culture whilst posting on classic cars and luxury watches that you've scoured the net for. That's what I call hypocrisy.

They're absolutely desperate to get Cummings. The press conference is completely the opposite of what is being reported. The MSM questions were just the usual barrel of activist accusations, including the stuff on single mothers. The local Durham PC Plod is in on the act now too.

If they hate him that much, they must fear him and that's a good thing.

Its unprecedented that a SPAD should be allowed to defended himself like Cummings was. His excuse for taking a trip out to Barnard Castle was laughable, surely he could have thought of a better excuse than that.

They certainly want him out, he contemptuous of the media (which I agree with) but they're contemptuous of him too.

For me, this is just an extension of the Brexit argument by other means.

It really is fucking tiresome...

I switched on at 4pm and waited for this (sad I know) and then watched it all the way through.

Cummings came across well. He wore a shirt with a collar - which is extremely smart dress for him. He was not abrasive or sarcastic (as his media image and previous short screen appearances suggested he might be).

He laid out the events, at length, in great detail. He made a good case for not having breached the rules. He then invited questions. His explanation had already taken the sting out of most pre-planned interrogations and the journalists were not quick enough on their feet to adapt their line of questions accordingly. First up had the easier time. The last few journalists decided to go with their original plan and get their digs in. The predictable ‘will you apologise?’ was voiced. ‘For what?’ I thought. Have you actually been listening?

The summaries were where it got interesting. I did not recognise what I had watched from the report in the Daily Mail, for example. It seemed like this was the big moment to try and get a scalp and the media were not going to go away without giving it a few more rounds.

As for driving to test his sight, some people are interpreting that as if he was driving while virtually blind. That is not what he said. I assume he was worried that a long time behind the wheel might affect his eyesight and he wanted to test that on a shorter run.

We will see how this progresses. If Boris can see off Starmer at PM questions on Wednesday it should be business as usual - but we will see in due course.

For a non partisan viewer, the media came out worse in this than Cummings.

They're a toxic breed, no shame, zero ethics. To paraphrase Joe Strummer: If Adolf Hitler flew in today, they'd be working for Joseph Goebbels the next day.

It's over now, they MSM have been utterly thrashed:

And down amongst the inter-sectionality, commies, post-modernist, vanillas pretending to be kinky, preening gobshites at the BBC canteen that Orange Lady Bad: Emily Maitlis. The only person with skin more orange than Trump.

Only someone as incompetent as Trump could manage to make Joe Biden appealing to the masses. He’s going to get elected in a landslide solely by being not-as-bad-as-Trump.

YES THATS EXACTLY WHY THE PEOPLE ARE OUT IN THE STREETS BURNING THINGS GOD DAMN IT

No, that's exactly what they want them to do!

Oh they love it, minorities reverting to the ghetto stereotype exactly where they can play them.

I'm a little bit older than you and back in my late 30s, I still bought all the socialism malarkey. But once you get sussed, you can't go back to that BS.

The plan is for Biden to retire a month before the election and shoe in some more acceptable candidate.

At this stage, they have no counter force against Trump. The strategy continues to get ever more desperate and hyperbolic.

Whatcha drinking tonight?

of course at this point i dont even think there will be an election in november.

Because of the coronavirus? So the election will be delayed until a vaccine is tested and administered to all voters and immunization provided for all future variants of the virus too? President Trump stays on till then? Hallelujah.

i think trump will call it off Part covid part "safety"

Is he normally like that? What was that all about? Was he considering saying something powerful before dribbling out mix of banal platitudes?

he does not think well on his feet. he could not figure out how not say "Trump is a fuckup". then he pulled something out of his ass that was KaKa instead.

What's happened to his peoplekind? One fake that. Right on script: we must racialize everything to save us from racism. Make everything about race and inevitably you will be able to divide and rule.

My understanding - which could be wrong - is that if there is not an election, then Trump's term will still finish in January 2021. He will not be president after that, unless he is elected.

Who would slot into the role, I'm not sure - I don't know whether it would be the VP, or someone else such as the next most senior person in the US government which, in this case, would be Nancy Pelosi.

I'm pretty sure he was torn between expressing what he really thought, and being diplomatic because he knows how thin-skinned Trump is and he didn't want to cause an international Trump Twitter-storm incident.

Good piece on the possible rebirth of conservatism from the ashes left by Trump.

Right now, I think the biggest problem is that there isn’t really a viable conservative leader. I don’t see the Lincoln Republicans having much charisma or offering real alternatives. The older ‘compassionate conservatives’ are just old. Most of the current Congress is too tainted by their silence these past few years. I’d had hopes for my rep, Dan Crenshaw, but he is trying to walk the line between Trump appeasement and an eye to a post-Trump party.
