A lot of clothes woven from Supima cotton are made in China. My local Target store (different from North American Target) sells Supima cotton bedsheets, towels, t-shirts and probably other items, too. Without exception, they're all made in China. So although the cotton wasn't picked by Uighurs, it's still being woven and made into clothes in Chinese factories.

It's cheaper to take the cotton from the US to China, weave it into cloth, make it into clothes or other goods, and then bring it back to western countries again, rather than weaving cloth and making clothes in first world countries.

And, whether we like it or not, most people like cheap clothes... and cheap electronics... and other cheap consumer goods.

People might whinge about China's business practices and politico-economic system but unless and until consumers actually change their behaviour and start actively buying products that are made in first-world countries, companies will continue selling made-in-China products.

The Dutch parliament have now classed the treatment of the Uighurs as genocide. Either it's a bit of virtue signalling with no bite, or they're going to have to go all the way with sanctions and embargoes. I don't think there will be any of that.

Consumers are only part of it, governments have a part to play too. The offshoring of our industrial and medical manufacturing was a strategic mistake in parts. Certainly, medical equipment and drug manufacturing should be repatriated with some urgency.

Have you also looked at where Pima cotton is exported to and where the garments are produced? You can find made-in-China with US Supima fabric in garments all day long. Or other places with cheap exploitive labour practices.

Online donors were guided into weekly recurring contributions. Demands for refunds spiked. Complaints to banks and credit card companies soared. But the money helped keep Donald Trump’s struggling campaign afloat.

Stacy Blatt was in hospice care last September listening to Rush Limbaugh’s dire warnings about how badly Donald J. Trump’s campaign needed money when he went online and chipped in everything he could: $500.

It was a big sum for a 63-year-old battling cancer and living in Kansas City on less than $1,000 per month. But that single contribution — federal records show it was his first ever — quickly multiplied. Another $500 was withdrawn the next day, then $500 the next week and every week through mid-October, without his knowledge — until Mr. Blatt’s bank account had been depleted and frozen. When his utility and rent payments bounced, he called his brother, Russell, for help.

What the Blatts soon discovered was $3,000 in withdrawals by the Trump campaign in less than 30 days. They called their bank and said they thought they were victims of fraud.

“It felt,” Russell said, “like it was a scam.”

But what the Blatts believed was duplicity was actually an intentional scheme to boost revenues by the Trump campaign and the for-profit company that processed its online donations, WinRed. Facing a cash crunch and getting badly outspent by the Democrats, the campaign had begun last September to set up recurring donations by default for online donors, for every week until the election.

Contributors had to wade through a fine-print disclaimer and manually uncheck a box to opt out.

If you're an opponent of devolution shouldn't you want her to stay? She's never going to quite get enough votes in a referendum to take it over the top.

It's the squalor of a corrupt one party state agitating on the border of England and for whom has delivered bad outcomes on all measurable outcomes since taking power, that is the issue. They are bigots and what's worse they are bigots who exist on the dole money of the English, the very nation they so despise.
