The Next Election, Political News, and Other Forms of Comedy (US, UK, & Intl)

SNP and Labour.
The SNP have been dragged-up rather than raised. In Westminster and the Houses of Parliament they've shown themselves to be uncouth and more use to drinking Buckfast Abbey wine mixed with Irn Bru and vodka than claret.

This is why we can’t have nice things in Texas

I like how on television it said former presidential, former Senate candidate. And then I wondered - what *did* he win?

How many times do these folks get bamboozled before they give up? Then again that's the same personality trait that gets you stuck in abusive relationships or why you embrace organised religion.

clearly you haven't been following qanon. this has been going on for more than 3 years now.

When people talk about crowds of qanon and white supremacists, you know they have been watching too much CNN. So much slops dished up as news these days.

Speaking of which, x-posting from the Covid thread:

Conservatism, in theory, is supposed to be an ideology of preservation. But the current right is increasingly being shaped by a reactionary impulse bent on the radical transformation — if not the outright destruction — of America’s leading institutions.

"There was a recent governor's election in Virginia, where the Republican pulled off a hugely impressive victory. But the Democratic candidate had a 14-point lead - among those who'd been vaccinated. That's astonishing. Being jabbed in the US is now an indicator of likely voting behaviour."

Another analytics gold mine for data scientists fueling any future rezoning of voting districts.

“We strongly urge the Congresswoman immediately cancel the planned visit to Taiwan, and not to support and embolden separatist forces of ‘Taiwan independence,’ lest it cause huge damage to the China-US relations and the peace and stability of Taiwan Straits,”

Who are you to tell another sovereign nation who they can visit?

Barbados is cutting ties with the Queen — but lack of public vote has some island residents asking why

Headline from a country that still has the constitutional monarchy. Sombre.

Headline from a country that threw off the yoke of monarchy and forgot to capitalize the regent. Jubilation.

Barbados will remain in the Commonwealth. That's the important thing.

They are embracing the Chinese though and no comment there.

They are embracing the Chinese - like a lot of their neighbours and African nations- because the West has essentially abandoned them.

The Commonwealth tbh has outlived its usefulness if we are being honest.

The West can't afford them and in the main they can't afford themselves.

China's investment in infrastructure projects is massive, but we'll have to wait some years to see the success or what price is ultimately paid as regards sovereignty.
