"My posts were a response to The Shoe Snob's shameless belittling of Shipton & Heneage, which is owned by Matthew Cookson, whose fashion forward styles are much copied by lesser mortals, including the forum's favourite shoe shine boy turned designer wannabe."

Wonder if this post will be deleted and have me banned from the Sleaze Forum?

The Shoe Snob was claiming that his line outsold Shipton & Heneage, which was tiny/puny compared to his, which is a load of crap. Bragging that he sold a total of 700 pairs 6 months after the launch at Gieves & Hawkes (inclusive of online and eBay sales), he failed to explain why, just 2 months after launch, G&H dscounted his shoes massively prior to Summer Sale, then kicked him out of the shop all together January 2014.

He was buying his clothes from thrift shops like Primark, but then has the funds to have a pair of bespoke boots made by Gaziano & Girling. I challenged him to deny that he got them for free in exchange for his massive write up on G&G (his blog is basically native advertising, i.e. advertising embedded within supposedly objective editorial). Unfortunately the posts have been deleted.

Here's a link to Matthew Cookson's Paris boutique. You judge for yourself who makes the better designs, or lasts. Both contracted the production out to third parties, Cookson I believe to Crockett & Jones.

Is this Justin guy the same person as shoe snob?

I haven't read this much drama on SD since the golden era of Foo/Ambrosi/Hermes.

Rumour was it that our beloved Shoe Snob was caught with his pants down by an undercover G&H mystery shopper when he tried to direct the guy to buy from him, instead of the concessionaire.

A SF poster from Dubai with a post count of 14 just rushed in to defend the Shoe Snob, claiming he bought 2 pairs from him, one for himself and one for his dad. Now ain't that nice!

What's Shoe Snob ' s history on SF. The handle doesn't ring a bell for me since I barely visit that site anymore.

As requested, I branched this off to another thread. How's the title?
Being subliterate, I had to look up salacious. I see alliteration but am surely missing something.

Cookson is fun and creative whereas this Fitzpatrick stuff is just the LeatherSoul school of idiotic color and leather choices ruining otherwise staid designs. "Teehee, I used fucking bright blue suede for some reason, aren't I brilliant?"
I must note that the odious RogerP, who white-nighted for GC, shows up here too. That guy really rubs me wrong for some reason.

I am embarrassed RogerP is Canadian. He feels Vass should whore themselves to iGents and thinks they need to built more italian looking shoes.

Well, that's kind of the point...whether or not you like the guy, or his blog, or his shoes...he's walked the walk like I said: worked in mainstream retail, apprenticed to a serious shoemaker, worked in service/retail in a rather more upmarket setting, and basically hung himself out there for abuse and debate for years, then finally gone through the whole process of manufacturing - which even though it's not his factory, still involves design, buying leather and understanding how the whole business works. So I'd assume he's learned something, and from what little I know, it seems so.

On the level, I've dropped in to see him a couple of times, and I guess by now I'd call him a friend. But there's no e-cock-sucking here, hell, I haven't even bought his shoes, I just respect a guy who's put in the hard yards to get to his ambition of producing a line of shoes. I've no idea what the Shipton Heneage thing was about; haven't seen that so I won't judge. But it wouldn't be the first time he's been rude about someone. And yes, he's big buddies with Tony Gaziano, but I don't think he makes any secret of it - after all, he openly credits him for help in developing some of the JF lasts.

Meh, looks like Tony did more than help him design his lasts. Look just like GG lasts. See how long he lasts

Respect the guy for pursuing his dream.

Trying-too-hard is a rather subdued way to describe his shoe design...

Apparently his shitty shoes are made by a Spanish company which outsources the production to China.

Ah, the murky provenance of global commerce. I have heard that Europe doesn't require nation of manufacture labeling, but doesn't the US?

It's Meermin that has its shoes mostly made in China. Justin's are made in Spain, specifically Almansa. Even if you don't like them. :)

I have worked on the shoe world since my grandpa founded on tge 1920s what was the biggest woman shoe factory of his time in Spain. So that factory is one with an italianate name right?

I got not a clue about that Justin but Gaziano is a top guy abd Meermin is the worst defective fit i have ever tried. Fitted as random rocks inside the shoe. Crap

I have just realiced this poster warned me for a possible ban but the banned has been him to expose corruption.

Carmina, a very bad copy ofSantoni with bad leathers and a brick. Wanted a mto pair and Carmina said i needed 3 sizes less. With the same sketch, Gaziano made me a perfect pair.

My Carmina are a shit with the insolles doing bubbles at each step, horrible pain fit and carton leather. This crap should cost 80 euros. Won't ever buy a pair. Terrible to walk on Naples unleveled rock streets. Can break a leg.

Hyped crap and poorly made overpriced. And Meermin is 5 times worse than this crap. I am a Green/Gaziano tasted.

I must say that I always hear of Carmina being "just about as good as...but for less!" which is hardly a ringing endorsement.

The only brand same as bad and brick as Carmina is Crockett and Indiana Jones. Hyped crap.

Is like putting korean tires on you 350hp italian sports car.

Unless you are being price gouged by Vass' US retailers.

...and UK, such as Ascot and their outrageously prices MTO makeups. $1100USD for a boot that would cost $750 direct from Vass including shipping
