A Futile and Stupid Gesture: The History of the Trump Presidency & Q-Anon

Strangely this article is not behind a pay wall.

"It was, after all, Mr. Trump who had to curb Mr. Bolton’s enthusiasm for launching an attack on Iran after that country shot down an unmanned U.S. drone a year ago. Mr. Bolton had advocated a 'disproportionate' response. Mr. Trump cancelled a planned retaliatory attack at the last minute after learning that it would lead to the deaths of dozens of people. Mr. Bolton calls the decision 'the most irrational thing I ever witnessed any president do.'

Actually, the move made Mr. Trump look responsible, for once. And the subsequent U.S. surgical strike that killed Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani in January without a single civilian casualty, which occurred several months after Mr. Bolton left the White House, had a far greater strategic and symbolic impact. Had it been authorized by any other president, it would have been hailed as a stroke of genius on par with the operation that killed Osama bin Laden."

The President makes sound decisions but is just misunderstood by the media.

"Speaking from the White House lawn on Saturday, Mr Trump took aim at protesters that he sees as anti-patriotic who have taken to the streets in the wake of the death in police custody in May of African-American George Floyd.

'We are now in the process of defeating the radical left, the anarchists, the agitators, the looters, and the people who, in many instances, have absolutely no clue what they are doing,' he said."

The people who have absolutely no clue what they are doing...I don't know, that could be a large part of the population.

“White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said during a Thursday press briefing that ‘science should not stand in the way of’ schools fully reopening for the upcoming academic year“

"I said: 'The science is very clear on this...the science is on our side here. We encourage our localities & states to just simply follow the science. Open our schools,'"

I am really confused here. Is the science standing in your way or is it on your side?

“At Tuesday's briefing, Mr Trump questioned why the White House coronavirus expert and his fellow task-force member Dr Deborah Birx were popular, but his administration was not.

He said: ’They're highly thought of but nobody likes me. It can only be my personality, that's all.’”

"Nicholas Klein, a lawyer at DLA Piper, said generally 'the government doesn't have the authority to take a cut of a private deal through' the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, which is the inter-agency committee that reviews some foreign investments in the US."

When Microsoft turns over their "cut" , do they book it for the IRS under expenses brokerage fee, processing fee or a tax?

"TikTok is threatening legal action against the US after Donald Trump ordered firms to stop doing business with the Chinese app within 45 days.

The company said it was 'shocked' by an executive order from the US President outlining the ban.

TikTok said it would 'pursue all remedies available' to 'ensure the rule of law is not discarded'"

Legal action? Where? How? In the kangaroo courts of China? In the current US justice system headed up by Barr? At the WTO which the US has never respected nor acknowledged?

Cross-posting from the coronavirus thread - here's a scathing article on the fiasco that Donald Trump and his administration have made of the US's handling of the pandemic:

On July 17, President Donald Trump sat for a Fox News interview at the White House. At the time, nearly 140,000 Americans were dead from the novel coronavirus. The interviewer, Chris Wallace, showed Trump a video clip in which Robert Redfield, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, warned of a difficult fall and winter ahead. Trump dismissed the warning. He scoffed that experts had misjudged the virus all along. “Everybody thought this summer it would go away,” said Trump. “They used to say the heat, the heat was good for it and it really knocks it out, remember? So they got that one wrong.”

Trump’s account was completely backward. Redfield and other U.S. public health officials had never promised that heat would knock out the virus. In fact, they had cautioned against that assumption. The person who had held out the false promise of a warm-weather reprieve, again and again, was Trump. And he hadn’t gotten the idea from any of his medical advisers. He had gotten it from Xi Jinping, the president of China, in a phone call in February.

The phone call, the talking points Trump picked up from it, and his subsequent attempts to cover up his alliance with Xi are part of a deep betrayal. The story the president now tells—that he “built the greatest economy in history,” that China blindsided him by unleashing the virus, and that Trump saved millions of lives by mobilizing America to defeat it—is a lie. Trump collaborated with Xi, concealed the threat, impeded the U.S. government’s response, silenced those who sought to warn the public, and pushed states to take risks that escalated the tragedy. He’s personally responsible for tens of thousands of deaths.

I find it hard to comprehend that President Trump and Xi Jinping colluded. Horse trade as a wheeler or dealer - sure. ZTE is an example. He'll do deals with anyone but the only people I see he would collude with are Putin and Netanyahu.

I spent a good 20 minutes giggling uncontrollably last night when I saw Trump said that "the pandemic of 1917 killed 50-150 million people and probably ended World War II"

Obviously the deaths resulted in less manpower being available for the Axis forces. If you can imagine the Germans, Italians, and Japanese having an extra 50m-150m people.

I am pretty sure that the Spanish flu did not just kill those who could have fought for the axis powers.

The truth about the virus is still being found.

China did blindside the western nations, especially the Italians who paid a heavy price. This fact is irrefutable: China introduced strict internal lock downs on Wuhan whilst they kept international escape routes out of Wuhan and the virus was seeded globally. The current state of play from China on this is: yes, so what? That's the Chinese communist attitude in action, they will not take responsibility for mistakes and ultimately it's met with a shrug of shoulders and so what, you're too weak to do anything about it, and yes it will happen again next week/or year to our benefit. And this virus had shown that the west is weak and can be exploited much, much more. You think this will be the last virus?

Trump followed the advice of the experts very early, much faster than the European nations and the ''He’s personally responsible for tens of thousands of deaths.'', is disingenuous as with reference to the above, rhetoric aside, Trump has acted in a rational and controlled manner and to the medical advice of the specialists. Much more so then those who have endorsed certain protests/rioting above others, because the risk is very minimum compared to that of the virus.

"So showerheads - you take a shower, the water doesn't come out. You want to wash your hands, the water doesn't come out. So what do you do? You just stand there longer or you take a shower longer? Because my hair - I don't know about you, but it has to be perfect. Perfect,"

Very important.

Are you talking about Trumps hair needing to be perfect or yours? Weren't you just complaining about needing extra hair spray because your Uber rides have the wind blowing through your hairs?

My hair needs to be perfect too. Kindred souls?

Ouch, this is going to hurt JoKe's chances:

Especially, if there's more yet to come claim, comes true close to the election.

Does anyone? I'm not sure even the homeless like the homeless.

The right response when seeing homeless people should be: this is not right! So it shouldn't give a warm glow of how quaint - the evil Tories/Thatcher - lets drop some loose change. It should make you feel uncomfortable, if you have a sense of humanity. But there's something lost in the cities, not only in the Americas, but here too, but not to the same extent.

In my youth, there were homeless tramps in Chester. Old wino bums in their demob suits and a sweet smell of methylated spirits coming out of their pores. Later in the early 1990s it was the new age travellers. That was a lifestyle choice. The American tourists left after Lockerbie and never came back, but the Japanese and later Chinese tourists came and all those homeless were bad for publicity. So they offered them council flats and most turned them down as either they were play acting or enjoyed the street. It's back to the same levels of that now, same look, but now there's families with their kids as well. Which is not pleasant to look at and whether there's still council flats and houses available, I don't know.

In Rio, I was toughened up somewhat to office buildings having 20 plus homeless families living outside, dead bodies of street kids left on the highway all day when I passed in the morning and after work, glue sniffers on Ipanema beach with ulcerated legs looking all of 10 years old and much, much more and worse.

But years before, in Hull in the UK. After we visiting the now knocked down Earl de Gray we walked through the nearby city to get a taxi to some awful night club which so happened to be where the street hookers where plying their trade and there before our eyes was a down syndrome street walker. I kid you not. A most disturbing and sobering sight. Having had a great aunt who was down syndrome I know how warm, funny and enchanting these people are and to see them exploited in that way was most wicked and ugly.

Bipartisan, Republican-controlled Senate Intelligence Committee releases report on “Russian Active Measures Campaigns and Interference in the 2016 U.S. Election”:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/aug/18/donald-trump-us-senate-report-russia-campaign

It’s a whopper – Vol. 5 of the report, about Counterintelligence Threats and Vulnerabilities, runs to 966 pages:

https://www.intelligence.senate.gov/sites/default/files/documents/report_volume5.pdf

Basically, it concludes that Russia helped the Trump campaign, and that the Trump campaign actively worked with Wikileaks to release information damaging to Clinton’s campaign.

FINDINGS

The Committee found that the Russian government engaged in an aggressive, multi-faceted effort to influence, or attempt to influence, the outcome of the 2016 presidential election. Parts of this effort are outlined in the Committee’s earlier volumes on election security, social media, the Obama Administration’s response to the threat, and the January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA).

The fifth and final volume focuses on the counterintelligence threat, outlining a wide range of Russian efforts to influence the Trump campaign and the 2016 election. In this volume the Committee lays out its findings in detail by looking at many aspects of the counterintelligence threat posed by the Russian influence operation. For example, the Committee examined Paul Manafort’s connections to Russian influence actors and the FBI’s treatment of reporting produced by Christopher Steele. While the Committee does not describe the final result as a complete picture, this volume provides the most comprehensive description to date of Russia’s activities and the threat they posed.

The report also found that Trump did talk with Roger Stone about Wikileaks. This is something that Trump denied when he provided written answers to the Mueller investigation.

Is that all you got: Trump spoke to Stone!?

Trump is still going to win, unless some sleight of hand.

The polls are close, unlike 2016 which were very much in favor of Hilary.

Now if you're a red hat wearing MAGA Trump supporter are you going to admit in a poll you are voting for Trump, knowing you could be placed on a list and later exposed and cancelled?

They'll say they're for Biden and turn out like never before come November.

Trump did say that if he was elected he would ditch his high maintenance hairstyle and get a simpler style.

That is one promise it would have been easy to keep. It’s not like building a wall.
