Tesla was a brilliant daydreamer that had a few good hits. Edison was a relentless developer that actually delivered finished, salable product over and over again.
Having a bright idea is great, but making it happen is the important part. Edison did that.
"Genius: one percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration."

LOL. No.

Edison merely stole everyone else's ideas. He didn't develop shit.

He got it done. Tesla fiddled around by himself and finished little. Edison figured out how to delegate and brand himself. Edison was better.

Pfft, and you didn't drive your car, it drove itself. The director gets the credit.
I was unaware that the lefties had included Edison in their attack on great Americans and capitalism.

Edison invented the phonograph before he had his own staffed R&D lab. This newfangled defamation in favor of some folk hero is revisionism by daydreamers.

Tesla was a free energy hippie and Edison was an industrialist, the Steve Jobs of the day. Boohoo, he defended his inventions, fought the opposition, and harmed animals in disingenuous safety displays. Besides alternating current, what did Tesla actually achieve besides posthumously becoming a hero for autistic loners?

Steve Jobs? Alright, you officially gone plaid.

And I despise Steve Jobs.

This is actually true. Jobs was a developer, an organizer. He got it done. I loathe Jobs, but he left a legacy.
Note that you can buy Apple products and they make gobs of money. Tesla Motors was not developed by Nikola. His ideas were nice but literally half-baked. Had he hired a team to finish the baking, he might have proven to have been greater.

Saying Tesla was a better inventor than Thomas Edison is like saying Jeff George or Michael Vick were better quarterbacks than Joe Montana. They both have a lot more physical tools than Montana, a lot more statistically astonishing games, but ultimately never got shit accomplished because they were head cases.

We need to take a second to revisit the question. Who was better? Telsa was clearly better. So was Jobs. Edison is probably the biggest myth America has ever created, and we have come up with some whoppers. He was basically a thief and a dickhead.

If production is what you are after, Edison and GE aren't a pimple on Bell Labs ass when it comes to innovations that have defined modern society.

Basically people who would be into Edison are the same people who like the movie Rudy. Rudy sucked. Trying hard isn't impressive. You know what's impressive? Talent. And Tesla was much more talented than Edison, as was Jobs.

If you want to continue the football metaphor, Randy Moss is clearly the best WR ever to play, not Jerry Rice. Anyone who thinks differently is just being dumb.

Jesus this thread. First Steve Jobs is the worst thing ever and now Rudy is a twrinkle movie? RUDY???

I thought we were discussing who was a better inventor. Clearly Edison, as his inventions were followed through while he was still alive. Tesla is the loser ideal, because every dope wants to view themselves as an unappreciated genius just because they never actually do anything. It's every dope that says they had the idea for something first. It doesn't matter, results do.

That would be a valid argument if Edison invented anything.

Really, the loser ideal is what you are holding up in all of your tea party populism anti "elite", so this line of debate is interesting.

Talent=Elite=Winning

Populism=Whining=Losing
