What happened today that neither pissed you off nor made you happy but is nevertheless noteworthy?

you fw.cktards can't even synchronize with the EU, so what?

ps btw, the list is going on ..., ymmv

Two days after we change to daylight savings time ahead of everyone else in North America my mobile says your time zone has changed. I open my eyes wider trying to wake up from my hotel bed and wondered which country I am in.

After the gym I decided to wear a dark burgundy pair of wool trousers, my Hardy Amies window pane jacket, my BB blue French cuff dress shirt and my Nazi era dark red tie from Hugo Boss. And of course my silver band Rolex watch passed on to me from my father that was passed on to him by my grandfather. Very pedestrian AE double monk in black.

There is a record jackpot for the local lottery today. The reporter on the morning news radio was interviewing random people on what they would do with 70M. He came across an Irishman who said there are going to be plenty of parties at the pub and he would use the money to buy a new liver.

Young couple at the rail platform for a crack of dawn train. They embrace and kiss and the man longingly lets the woman board the train. He stares at the rail car as she climbs up to the second floor. What happens next is my conjecture but given his quivering lips and his gaze upwards and his typing on the mobile I believe this is how the text only generation say a fond farewell.

"On the morning of the 25th, the Germans sent the Mayor of Calais to Nicholson to ask him to surrender, saying that if he did not, they would bomb and shell the town until it was razed. Nicholson said: 'Surrender? No, I shall not surrender. Tell the Germans that if they want Calais they will have to fight for it.'. He received and refused another offer to surrender from the Germans: 'The answer is no, as it is the British Army’s duty to fight as well as it is the Germans.""

On my final day travelling for business I realise my inappropriate choice for socks paired with a suit is due to my brother's baby rearranging my sock drawer.

"It's an old cliche that the American Republic was founded on the principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, while Canada's founders preferred peace, order and good government."

I thought that was eloquent.

About five different people at senior levels have asked me how am I doing during the past 48 hours. More of a how are you holding up, are you stressed because you don't show it.

Whenever it's a crisis situation I just focus, put my head down, and execute. This is one of those career defining moments. What else can I do? Quit and self isolate to hide from the challenge?

I think the lady who wipes down all the door surfaces is unusually interested in me. She waves at me every morning through my office's glass door and today stumbled in on me in the washroom.

She comes by 4x a day and wipes door handles before the evening crew come. I reckon this 6 storey building has about 5 people who work here so less than 1 per floor. There are more service and security staff than here.

I'm not even sure she speaks any English.

I walk through an almost barren ghost town to this office so any human contact is precious.

People here are worried about the homeless who seem to be over 50 percent of the crowd roaming the city.

One of them comes up to me - everyone comes to me because I'm one of the few still wearing a tie to work - and he says he knows he looks a bit rough but he was driving from X to Y (I don't live in X nor Y) and....

I look him up and down for frayed cuffs, dirty shoes, a needle sticking out of his arm, anything to see if he is dangerous. Then I noticed he was holding on to a mobile phone. As he gestures with his hands I see it's brand new all black one with a perfectly clean and uncracked screen.

No wonder this bloke is homeless. He doesn't even have the sense to hide his mobile phone when he pretends to be poor.

There are three generations of coronavirus warnings in front of this building. The ones that say if you travelled out of the country for the past 14 days need to go. Who can travel out of the country these days anyway?

I was on my way to work yesterday and just passing by the row of fast food restaurants on my block noticed a man licking a takeaway container on a bench. As the restaurants are closed at 7am (even the 24/7 Subway) I have no idea where he found that.

I never make eye contact as I walk by the homeless so when I was approaching him he muttered, "spare change?"

As I passed in front of him he said "change man? CHANGE!"

And as I left, he increased his volume to: "CAAAAASH! I NEED THE F*CKING CASH."

Such a lovely morning.

Sounds like a manager of 1970s a rock band. You would want someone like that getting the gig money after the concert.

I didn't think homelessness was a problem in Canada?

Homeless people are capitalists. They congregate where the money is which means where I live and Vancouver there are throngs of them. I'd see 5 or 6 before I make it 1km from my flat.

So an ex trader, banker or insurance dude?
Those are still essential businesses here.

I’m amazed at how easily my kids have adapted to the new world. They are inviting relatives to their Zoom piano recital tomorrow, taking online ballet, gymnastics and fencing classes. They use Google Classrooms and MS Teams for school. They hang out and play with their friends in online games like Fortnite and Roblox.

It’s not ideal. I don’t think the interaction is the same as f2f and, while they get some excercise, they still don’t spend enough time outside exploring and taking risks.

But for a while at least, they are doing amazingly well.

That's rather good, as one of mine has decided to watch TikTok videos for the duration.

My IQ is operating at 30 percent level after 4 episodes of Singapore Social on Netflix.

One of the women on the show said it's girls' night out - you're on your own to her boyfriend. The boyfriend then messages the mutual acquaintances/partners/spouses of his girlfriend with the statement "Drinks?"

Why would you go out with your girlfriend's social circle if she already said she is ditching you to join her social circle?

It was baffling to me. I am trying to remember other than at the end of a playoff sports game where I ever messaged any of my male acquaintances - let's go for a drink. I usually just go for a drink and make my own fun and people ask me, "Hey I'm around, can I join you?" - which never starts well because I tell them in 30 minutes meet me at x bar or restaurant and I'm always late hopping over from whatever I was doing before.

"How to talk to kids about race, and why you should start now"

All this time I just told my kids to see people as just another human being. Now I have to tell them about how race distinguishes a person from another and to classify people properly.

How many kids you have?

Every week in this branch office I have been working out of there is a building personnel who escorts an exterminator in to check on the rat traps. They have been doing this all throughout the quarantine.

This week after doing their rounds on the floor the exterminator paused before heading to the front foyer and said, "I have all the respect for you. I only ever see you in this office and every time you are in a suit and tie. Just by yourself."

I replied that it's either I am all about consistency or as my lady friends and mother characterize it - extremely stubborn.

Popped out at 1230 to go buy macarons from Laduree. Saw at least 7 or 8 men wearing full suit and tie in the couple of financial district buildings I passed by. It's 30c and sunny out so you know they are wearing it by choice.

What I didn't understand were the men at the patio tables ordering a bottle of wine on a Monday. Is anyone going back to work? It's Monday...
