What happened today that neither pissed you off nor made you happy but is nevertheless noteworthy?

There are a couple of black kittens that just appeared in the neighborhood and my kids wanted to leave out some food for them. For the last few nights I’ve left a little dry cat food in a bowl out and every morning it’s gone. We have a lot of squirrels in the tree and a few raccoons around, so I put one of the security cameras on the bowl to see who was eating it. Within half an hour of us going to bed , the biggest tank of an opossum (no relation to the cute Australian possum) comes barrelling along to devour the food with gusto.

I don’t think the kittens will be getting anything from us.
Possums are our friends

Not trying to be pedantic, but …

This cute little marsupial is a POSSUM:

I ticked the box at a recent PCP check-up to indicate my dad had previously had prostate cancer. The VA rules that it was a result of Agent Orange exposure, but that’s still enough to get me sent to the Urologist for a physical exam. With much reluctance and after several reschedules, I finally go to my appointment with a Dr Morgan Surname to get a finger up my ass. Well, it turns out that Morgan is a young and fairly attractive female doc. The experience was as unpleasant as I’d anticipated, but at least I wasn’t converted to the ghey?

Double-whammy Covid and Flu shots lastnight. Today I am hobbling around the house complaining of aches. Giving myself and anyone around me a good taste of what I’ll be like as a grumpy old man.

Every week I'm out on the street and I get asked for directions at least 2 or 3 days a week. Sometimes it's even more.

Yesterday I was sitting on a bench to get my daily dose of skin cancer and a Japanese student comes to me. He asks me if I have time. I have to take off my headphones to hear him. That was how persistent he was. He wanted to practise speaking English with me. Somehow he thinks I'm a native speaker. We spoke for 15 minutes. I have no idea what Nagasaki is like so I just rambled on about me - because who doesn't want to hear about me - especially me.

I slept almost 9 hours last night. I still feel like crap. These A/C vents don't help. Also hit my 5th day without alcohol. I haven't smoked. I haven't done anything. I still worked out.

Went to a lecture discussing the "...current challenges in the latest developments of large language models (LLMs), including improving their multilingual capabilities, fine-tuning, support for low-resource languages, and mitigating bias."

The only thing I got from the lecture is it's endearing to call in English a small child, baby or monkey. Whereas in other languages it's offensive to call another human a babe or monkey.

I got invited to a net zero + nuclear power conference. Free food and drinks. Although I was confused when she said I could network with people what that meant given I don't know anything about the energy sector.

Autumn arrived and it's back to the series of monthly dinners and talk at my university.

It's a bit sad the old crew that I somehow got associated with is dwindling especially after the virus when people just stopped coming. Only one senior couple and one bachelor in the crew now. When I first attended, the former insurance broker man was 78. Now he's 89. He dropped the tie and the suits now but he told me can still do a 5km walk in 55 minutes. I don't know if that is fast or slow.

The chair of the dinner who has been attending since the 1960s still looks weirdly like he did more than a decade ago when I met him. Full head of hair and he told me his suit sizes haven't really changed for 40 years now. Except for the virus and when he broke something slipping at the pool at the New York Athletic Club he hasn't missed any of the dinners.

It was nice to have to walk through a protest amongst uni students... - one, two, three, four, occupation no more. Five, six, seven, eight, Israel is a terrorist state.

Nothing like waking up at 430 because of the time change and then going to the gym at 5 only to find a walrus of a man laying sideways on a bench lifting a 1kg dumb bell with one arm and holding up his mobile phone to watch videos with the other.

There are two people in this co-working space trying to learn Italian.

Helping my brother move this morning. Compared to three years ago it is taking two rounds of stacking the service lift with furniture before I kicked into aerobic breathing whereas my brother was panting like crazy. Not quite a fair comparison on strength as he had a hand injury that didn't heal until this past week.

My brother's a millionaire. Well - his house is worth $1M. Well - HSBC's house until he pays it off.

According to the speaker today there are two signs of depression. An inability to experience joy doing anything in your life - like tasting food when you have a cold. A lack of self-esteem in everything you do.

Kiss had their final concert ever in New York. But the guy was sick for the Canadian leg. Does final mean they won’t go back and reschedule locations they missed? Not that I am a fan but it seems inconvenient that you miss out on a farewell tour because the artists couldn’t make it.

I have to pick up my brother's son tomorrow. Except they moved so I have to take a train and a bus 40km away. They keep telling me about certain doors and being ready to attest my identity. All I remember from attending the school is the bell hits at 1500 and kids all run out. I guess things changed.

On top of this I have to become a mule today. Deliver letter to my aunt's house. Pick up something my aunt wanted to pass on to her brother. Pick up snack for my brother's kid.

I got badly beaten in a game of drunk darts with an attractive lady recently. My fragile ego can handle losing, but not by THAT much. So now I’m watching YouTube videos to improve my game.

And if it was pool or snooker?

My aunt is going to Antarctica on a cruise and I told her to try everything possible including the sub. I told her chances are she won't be able to go because they only launch when conditions are perfect and more often than not they scrub the launches. She gets weighed and measured every day for a possible launch and today said the group who went before her are still down there because they lost communications with them.

I cashed out my Air Miles after AMEX got rid of my Air Miles reward card and gave me some weird points card that they own (+++ annual fee) and redeemed some Sony bluetooth headset that seemed to retain its sale value. Posted it on eBay and people kept nickel and diming me. Finally someone won it and wanted it cancelled. Ignored all the messages until they caved in and paid for it.

Year to date I've only missed 5 days from being in the gym. Managed to get there every single morning even through two colds.

My brother is trying to work out a system where negative rapid tests and/or no symptoms mean you can come to Christmas family dinner. This is because my father is now one of the "vulnerable" people. What happens when the parents test OK and the kid is not OK? Or vice versa..

There was an Islamic celebration and festival on Christmas Eve last night at the convention centre across the street and the surroundings hotels. Nothing like Muslims taking advantage of the low low prices before the birth of Christ

So you are one of those superspreaders of cold/flu/COVID etc

No but whomever showed up to my brother’s wife’s Christmas party was. Entire company has coronavirus and she is still positive after eight days.

Two blokes who wandered in yesterday morning were hacking and snorting much more than me. I didn’t mind as my immunity is already high.
